New 'picnic' Dining Option at AK!

No modifications or substitutions are allowed.

Totally uncool to not have a vegetarian option.

"Guests with food allergies should alert the Cast Member when placing their order, who will then contact a chef to discuss the Guest’s needs." - from the info page for CM's

You can always request a vegetarian option at any restaurant at WDW, so I am sure this is no different. Relax, it will be ok! :thumbsup2

I wonder if you can specify what you want on the sandwich. Like if someone wants just turkey and cheese but no lettuce and tomato on it. Then I would love to try this as it seems fun. But if it is just a premade sandwich and you get what you get, then I will probably pass on it.

I think the Disney Powers That Be pulled off a really shrewd one here, and in my mind it comes close to a win-win. Other than the logistics of placing the order (as in, "how long am I gonna need to wait in line?"), having one centralized point to pick up the food has to cut down on their manpower demands. Plus, you've got plenty of seating for us available and that whole picnic vibe going on.

I think they're on to something. We won't try it this next trip, but I sure wouldn't object to it.

sure wish they would have included a vegetarian sandwich ,looks like a good deal otherwise

It would be nice if the cs location on Tom Sawyer's Island would offer the picnic lunch, too!

And what about Hollywood Studios where counter service isn't the best!!!

So where in the park would you go to eat your food?

Are people going to freak out if you take it down to the tables at one of the QS restaurants?

Do you have to eat it on a bench somewhere?

Can you spread a blanket down in the middle of the path ro Aisa? ;)

I know there are some nice away places (mostly I can just think of some on the path from Africa to Aisa), but are they all smoking areas?

Sounds like great places to eat!! My daughter, son in law and grandsons are there right now and I am going on the 14th, we are going to try this and bring it back to SSRR.

Question? Is this like the other CS meals that if there is no kids menu children order from the adult menu? If not I guess we could get the little ones pizza at pizzafari and bring that back??

Exactly. I'm really picky. If I could just get meat and cheese and some condiments, I might like it, but I wouldn't want the lettuce and stuff. Although I could eat the mac & cheese.

Does each person get the reusable bag or just one for the whole order? Also, in reference to the sides, does each person get two sides or is it two sides for the whole order(for the 4 people price)

I believe it will be one bag for the whole order not each but maybe 2 if its a big order for like say 6 people. The sides are for the group not each person. For 3 people you get 2 sides. :)

I was just checking in to see if anyone reported back with pics and reviews yet;)

So driving today, I wondered, what if you just get your meal and picnic spot and it rains? I know you deal in WDW but that would stink while eating. OH well, still I may try it.
Again, I was wanting to find out what is the seating? Picnic tables? Is there a bunch? I was thinking many ppl would need many tables plus what to stop ppl from bringing in their picnic and using the tables since bringing food isnt discouraged? Just thinking more(and wanting a sandwich:woohoo:)

This looks like a really cool deal.

I have 4 of those green bags that I bought at AK last month. I love them, they are the grocery bag type (reusable grocery bag). They were under $3 each, but I have a thing for bags like these and collect them.

I think this is a clever idea and we may give it a try. I am surprised, though, that there is no vegetarian option. We have a vegetarian in our family, which will make this tricky. I guess we could disassemble the sandwiches, but it seems odd that there wouldn't be a veggie wrap or something in the first place as an option.

I also wonder about the mashed potatoes and gravy, if they are together in one container. (Our veggie loves mashed potatoes.) Since the info makes such a point of no substitutions or modifications, I wonder if we can get "no gravy," or if that would be a big deal.

Still, it's a clever idea that sounds fun to try.

Once again, AK is the least vegetarian friendly park.:mad:
Looks like my eat at Mara plan on my AK day is staying. :woohoo:

That's a good point. How are they going to make sure that people who actually order the meals have a place to eat? I can see lots of people just using the areas for their own picnic they brought from their hotel.

My guess is that it's really going to be more about the food than the location. I mean, really, you can eat it anywhere. And I'm not sure that they would care who eats at the locations. :confused3

I think it's only 1 side for 3 people.
