New Park Rumor??? Thrill Rides/Roller Coasters?

I was on another wdw discussion board today and was reading a rather long thread about a "rumor" of a new park in the works at WDW which some believe is a roller coaster park with some additional thrill rides with "villains" as the theme for the park. I am wondering if there is any truth to this at all. Does anyone know either way?

I agree- That would be awesome!! I love Thrill rides and I love Disney- What could be better.

This rumor has been around forever. Several years, at least. It's one of a dozen or so concepts that have been sitting on the "drawing boards" for years. It's not likely Disney will build another park any time soon. Or, at least, not until well after Hong Kong is up and running.

I too have hear rumors of such a park for some time. I really dont think that will happen anytime soon. I think a park with just thrill rides is against Walt's Dream. He likes parks that both adults and children can enjoy.

I do expect to see more thrill rides going up in the older parks. For example, the one going up in Animal Kingdom. Expedition Everest I beleive its called. I also expect to see another thrill ride where 20,000 leagues used to be.

I also read that they might add another section to the MK dedicated to Villians. This would be again by 20,000 leagues.

There are so many rumors though - anything can happen!

I'll take a new theme park as soon as they put enough in AK and MGM to give me a full day at each!!!

As much as I love MGM, there's less and less of interest every time I go. Once you've seen Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast, Playhouse Disney and even Little Mermaid a half-dozen times, they really don't spark the interest anymore.

Each of those theme parks could use 3 or 4 more, solid attractions (and, no, they don't all have to be of the $200 million 'Expedition Everest' variety) before a new gate is even considered.

And, yes, the Villains theme park idea has been around FOREVER...just like Beastly Kingdom and a host of others.

The Imagineers are trying to sell the idea right now, but only for DL. 20,000 leagues at WDW I believe was filled in a few months ago.

They have basically filled-in the lagoon. It's gone.

With regard to a "thrill ride" being placed at the lagoon site, it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. Right now all of the rumors involve a character greeting area, playground or garden.

Ariel's Grotto is closing in a few weeks for what is believed to be re-theming to integrate it with the redesigned 20,000 lagoon area.

With the four big attractions all under construction now, I wouldn't be surprised if another year or two passes before future plans are revealed.

The management of WDW said earlier this year that they were not going to be opening any parks in the near future. They were going to work on the existing 4 parks, adding attractions and shoring up the park experience.

So, I would say there is no new park in the future. Other than Hong Kong Disneyland, which should be a monumental failure (have you seen how little there is to do there?)

This villains rumor surfaced back when Disney's California Adventure was on the drawing board, too. We were hoping for a high thrills antithesis to the MK at Disneyland right across the way. Thought that would be an awesome setup, maybe with Malefecent's castle at the hub (just my own brainstorming here). I've heard it's possible in some strawberry fields that Disney owns a few miles from Disneyland too. I agree, though, it would be an amazing addition to the parks family!

One of the WDW specials on TLC featured Kathy Magnuson, who stated "We will never do an "all thrill" park that is for others but not the Disney Company".

I too have heard this rumor......I believe it is an "on the shelf" attraction developed for the land north of DAK and west of the Studios across World Drive. Although some of that space is currently occupied by the "Zippity-doo-doo Plant", the "MURF" and the Tree Farm.

We asked a couple different CM's what was being worked on behind the lagoon wall (in late July). Both indicated it was a character greeting area.

we just got back over the week end. you can see very high construction going on at the AK. someone did say a roller coaster of some sort. also , the old 20,000 leagues is covered by like a fence type boarding. also at the Stitch place , the sign read like "opening fall " . there were alot of things closed this summer down there..............
