We bought 250 points at SSR today!  We already had a vacation book at the Poly for Sept. 2-9 but we're going to cancel that reservation and rebook using our points tomorrow. Our guide said that all resorts were open for our timeframe. :cool1: We'll have our 3 boys who are 3, 5 and 7 so we're thinking we need to stay in a 2 bedroom, although our guide said a 1 bedroom would be ok, also.

Any ideas of where to stay? What kind of room to reserve (1 or 2 bedroom)? Can we get the dining plan?

Thanks! I've been reading these boards all afternoon!

You can get the dining plan - but you will have to pay for it. It's $37.99 per night per adult (ages 10and older) and $10.99 per night per child (ages 3 - 9). You need to buy it for each night of your stay, but there is no ticket requirement.

You have to call MS to add it to your reservation before you check in - IIRC, you need to add it at least 48 hours prior to arrival. YOu pay for it when yo check in.

Congrats and welcome home!

Welcome home. We were just at SSR last week and really enjoyed it.

The time you have booked now is the free dinning isn't it? I think you can get the dinning plan with DVC (we did last week) but as CarolMN said it isn't free. If you end up saving $ you could book the free dining at a less$ resort and save the points for later.

I would book a 2BR if you have enough points to swing it. It really makes a difference having that extra bedroom, not to mention the extra bathroom! :thumbsup2

As far as where to stay, I'm assuming that you purchased SSR points, so I'd suggest staying there. WDW resorts have a way of "imprinting" on your collective memories, so why not start your many years of family WDW vacations at the resort you will call "home"? I'm sure you will have a great time there and start making those magic memories.

On the other hand, if you are looking to be close to MK because of the ages of your children, then a stay at VWL might be in order. It is almost guaranteed to be a home run with your boys (and hubby) with its wilderness theming and fun activities. Just be careful you don't fall in love with the place...people have been known to do that!! :teeth:

And finally....

CONGRATULATIONS AND Welcome Home!!!

I don't know why I feel it will make any difference since I've stayed there many times before but as a new DVC owner I wanted my first trip home to be Home at BWV.

Congrats and I suggest a 2 bedroom also
Welcome Home

I personally would do the 1brdm.Your children are young 7,5,3 I would put the younger 2 in the Queen(or all 3) and bring a aerobed for the 7yo(if he needs extra room-Or how every you want to do it(you could put all 3 in the king and you and DH on the sofa if you wanted).

My feeling is there is a big point difference, and for 1-2 more years it will be easy for you to do this, while they are young(200pts vs 270pts-if you did that for 2 years you would bank 140 points). You can bank the points to save up for 2brms later as they get older. That is my opinion. I have 2- 8yo boys and we do stuidos ( :scared1: ). Like I said we are using our points for other things-in our case longer trips at high demand times.

But what ever you do I wish you a wonderful trip. I also like the idea of keeping your ressie/with the free dining and banking your points for next year(since you will be paying $109 a night to add free dining to your DVC-Like getting Poly/with meals at about for a fraction of the price-plus you have the points -call it 200 (X $10pp)=2000 you can rent or save for later trips.

Congratulations & Welcome Home!!

HAPPY "MAGICAL" VACATIONING,

Welcome Home!!!
Happy planning! :cheer2: :cheer2:

congratulations on your purchase...I would suggest trying out your new home because there will be plenty of opportunities to vist all the resorts.

Congrats!

I think a 1 bedroom would be sufficient because your kids are young. As they get older you'll definitely want a 2 bedroom. I found the 1 bdrm to be very spacious and the bathrooms are very large as well.

Thanks for all your great responses! We still haven't decided what to do, but we're leaning towards the 2 bedroom.

Congratulations!! :sunny:

We took our first trip home to SSR in Dec. We were a family of 5 then and we stayed in a 1br. It was plenty of space. There are 6 of us now, so we'll be in 2br's from now on. But by staying in the 1br that first trip, we banked a bunch of points and created more options for ourselves for future trips. :)
