I asked on this forum a few months ago whether I needed a car in New Orleans. Everyone helped me out so much. We are in our final stages of planning our trip. We are staying at the Sheraton on Canal Street right outside of the French Quarter.

What are your favorite places to eat? (We will have business casual clothes but no jacket and tie for my husband.)

Also, we were giving thought to a cemetery tour, paddle wheel boat ride and would like to see the plantation homes. Any suggestions on which tour company to use? Is a swamp tour worth it, or does it take up too much time? We we only have 3 1/2 days to tour.

The last time we were there was pre-Katrina, so this is quite dated info. We went to Galatoire's, Arnaud's and Antoine's. Really enjoyed Galatoire's and Arnaud's. Antoine's not so much, they seemed to be resting on their laurels. Highly recommend the cafe brulot at Arnaud's!

Also, you must go to Cafe du Monde for the cafe au lait and beignets.

Frankie and Johnny's
Brunch at court of two sisters
Drinks at the columns

I live next door to the Columns. Great place for drinks on the street car line.

My best recommendation is Commander's Palace for lunch- M-F. It's just a couple of blocks off the streetcar line. 25 cent martinis (and 3 other drinks) at lunch.

I'm kind of partial to Deanies Seafood on Iberville.

Done the Galatoires (sp) scene, and other than the spectacle of distinguished businessmen out with their "nieces" for a three hour lunch, it was ok.

Mother's is a popular spot, nothing fancy.

And of course Central Market for a Muffallata (sp).

WWII museum is really good...previously named the D-Day museum.

If it is still open, The Confederate Museum is interesting.

We did a culinary walking tour with free tours by foot and loved it. They have good review on trip advisor too. There's a place off Decatur called coop's that has great jambalaya. I also really liked some of those stands in the French market.

Have fun! I was down there for Mardi gras lite and I miss it already!

I couldn't even tell you where to begin on food - I think I touched base a little in the previous thread. In regards to tours - I was absolutely sold on doing Grayline as a first option. Granted I'm sure there are cheaper ones but I've never had a bad experience with them. If anything you could use them as a baseline to compare tour companies.
