A couple weeks ago we went to Akershus for a late lunch/early dinner and had a wonderful waitress named Julie (I think it was Julie anyway!). She was by far the best waiter/waitress we had at any meal on our two week vacation.

She happened to be from Akershus, Norway and talked to us a little bit about the movie Frozen. She was genuinely excited about the movie and how much it reminded her of home, talked to us a little bit about the little Norwegian details scattered throughout the movie. It was nice to see a young lady working at Disney who was that joyous about the "Disney Magic".

I used to think it was a bad idea to start incorporating Disney movies and rides into the World Showcase, but something about that conversation with Julie has completely changed my mind. Now I am thinking of the fantastic opportunities Disney has to start to incorporate Disney characters throughout the World Showcase. As long as they keep the culture before the characters I think it could change Epcot for the better!

Great to hear that! I am actually a fan of Frozen coming to Epcot (probably one of the very few people who would say that on here). I felt Maelstrom was tired, outdated, boring, and weird. It had no real tie to anything Disney related and didn't really teach much besides the video at the end, which was nice (but also very outdated).

No doubt the new Frozen attraction will drive HUGE amounts of kids into Epcot and the World Showcase to explore, which is fantastic.

Anyway, I am glad to hear a positive spin on it.

I have said something similar, and I agree..but I still have concerns about frozen.

The reason? They've already taken so much of Norwegian culture out of Norway. The Stave Church exhibit is now about Frozen. The restaurant's menu is severely diluted compared to what it was pre-princess takeover. The Viking ship playground was removed. Now Maelstrom is gone, and a good portion of the shopping area is going to be taken for a meet and greet location.

That sounds, to me, a lot like putting the characters before the culture, so I remain a bit skeptical. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm skeptical.

been away for a while. Can anyone give me the link to more information on what is going on at Epcot in reguards to Frozen?

WHile I agree with many of your other points - I would like to point out, the display is actually about how Frozen used traditional Norwegian culture throughout the movie. I was very pleasantly surprised when we toured it last month...

My concern, though, is that Disney has said that the ride is going to be about Arendelle and Frozen - Not Norway. From their blog: "The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film."
That, to me, says that it will be much more like Snow White's Scary Adventures, Peter Pan's Flight, or Journey of the Little Mermaid rather than a ride about Norway and how it inspired Frozen.

That's precisely my concern as well.
