Assuming we missed the boat, but I'd also like someone to explain, if possible. Thanks
Sorry, I do not read this thread often, so I did not reply sooner.
The deal was at Target, before Christmas. They ran it two weekends. There was a coupon from target that was a $10 Target GC for every $50 spent. So, like many others, I printed off a bunch of coupons and went to Target early morning, before the crowds. Target only accepts 4 of the same coupon per transaction, so I bought 4 $50 WDW GC, then went back and bought 4 more, redeeming the Target GC'c (4 x $10) for a total of $40 off $200 in GC. Plus, I used the target red card, which gets you 5% off your purchase. (an additional $8.00 off the $160.00 left after redeeming the target GC, or 4%). So I went through a total of 5 times, buying 20 GC. I went through the same cashiers line every time, as she was a college student and did the transactions without any hassles (some cashiers are really strict, and call mngr over), and then used those to but my WDW admission tickets through the ticket office. I ended up with $40.00 in GC for target at the end, which I used for my regular shopping (so I saved part of my cash right then). All this means is that I have 3 tickets, plus some extra GC that I will use for food and/or store purchases in the park. Target ran this LY, and again this year. postings were all over the deal sites (dealsaver, slickdeals, and fatwallet). I do not know if they will run it any other time of the year, but it is the ONLY way I know to get truly discounted tickets, other than UCT- and that really only works out to about 6-7%. The pkgs are good discounts, but it is spread over 2 or 3 things, so you really can't distinguish what the overall discount is. This way, I can stay at a DTD resort, for fairly cheap, plus take discounts on everything else. The magic mornings was a concern, but hopefully the low crowds will balance not getting those. I have purchased a package before at
Disneyland, but that was several years ago, and I was making more money then. Needed to stay on a tight budget. I would love to do this annually, but I really need to keep it down on the spend in order to do that. I redeemed the cards thru the ticket office, with a really nice CM, and we talked and joked all thru it (as I had to read her 17 cards with 16 digits each to complete the trans). She asked me how this was all happening and I explained a little, but no specifics so as not to get target in trouble. However, whe shared with me that someone had called in and redeemed 94 cards. I do not know if they were $25 or $50 increments, but it could have been $4700 for which potentially may have only costed $3572
I don't know if target will have this anytime soon again, but I think it is a good bet they will run this at christmas again.
