New Nat'l Contract Id That Beat Priceless

When you join Continentals FF program, do you get some kind of membership card we may have to show at the check out booth?

Immediately after I joined Continental's FF program I was e-mailed a card which I printed out and stapled to my National reservation.

You also get a screen to print it out while still at Continental.com

I am just wondering if this is from Continental Airlines or somewhere else. I will keep both of my ressies until I get some confirmation of the code. Hopefully someone who uses it can confirm it. I have also posted this question over at Flyertalk.com for an answer. I will let you all know what I find out...

Thanks! I'm keeping my eyes out too for code confirmation. And I'm keeping both my ressies too. It's only a $4 difference for me.

Thanks for the info. This new code brings our ressie down by $9. Hmm, I'm a little nervous though. Let us know what Mary says. Thanks again!

My April reservation dropped by $5 also, but when I tried December I got a higher rate. Go figure.

Also dropped my ressie by 9.00. I will stay tuned to hear if this ok to be using. I did sign up for continentals ff program just in case. :scratchin

I guess you've just got to check for yourself. I just checked and it raised mine by about $12.00.

I have reserved and cancelled 5 times with Nat'l so far - started in Jan. with a total price of $290 for 9 days in October. Lowest I've gotten so far is $144.90, on March 3, using the Priceless code and Entertainment coupon. Ever since the prices have slowly risen, even with those discounts. I just tried again now using this new code and my rate was $250!!! The base rate for a midsize has increased over $90 per week, so no amount of discount can beat the rate I already have. I WILL keep looking tho, right up until the last day. :)

I heard from Mary at Mousesavers today about the new code. I'm keeping my Priceless reservation and cancelling the other one. I don't want to have to worry about this - its not worth saving $9. Here's what Mary had to say:

Sorry, I don't know anything about that one. I can't
remember where I got the Continental Contract ID that
I list on MouseSavers.com, but they usually don't
change -- unless they are just plain discontinued. I
just looked at the Continental web site and they don't
list any kind of Contract ID for National.

It's possible that the Contract ID you saw on the
boards is not a Continental code at all (by the time
codes get to the boards, it can be kind of like the
old "telephone" game -- who knows where they really
came from).

If it actually is a promotional code from Continental,
it doesn't appear in the rental car offers on the
Continental web site. This makes me suspect that it
was either some sort of private offer or private code
for Continental Elite travelers (people who travel at
least 25,000 miles per year on Continental). Most
frequent flyer programs offer private deals like that
for their most elite flyers. If this is one of those
codes, it's possible you might have to show an elite
card when picking up the car.

Without knowing the origins of the code, I would
proceed with caution.

Mary

Thanks for the information. I think I'll stick with the priceless code too. Thanks!

I asked this earlier in this thread, but it bears repeating based on what Mary had to say.

Is there anyone out there who has used this code successfully? If so, were you asked for any specific proof?

I'm tending to agree with Liz and CJK, it's not worth $5-$10 in savings to worry about it.

At the www.flyertalk.com website (under the National forum) there are many, many frequent flyers who have successfully used this code without any sort of document request/presentation. They are the "Mavens" of Traveling as we are to Disney Stuff. At that website, you will find lots of other contract codes for National (and other rental companies), many of which are not listed on mousesavers. Flyer Talk is a great site and, if you are interested in getting the most from your money when flying, staying in a hotel or renting a car, it's a fantastic source.

I absolutely adore  Mary's website and can only say good things about it. She is the Queen! princess: But, it's important to note that she can only post the deals that are reported to her (or those she personally finds). So, while it's a WONDERFUL place to start, it's not an exhaustive list of discounts. I highly doubt that these Flyer Talk folks who travel 250 days of the year and have access to many discounts are emailing Mousesavers with their codes - the majority of them are too work-consumed to take a vacation.

That being said, I plan to keep both reservations as well and, who knows, maybe our rates will all go down enough to make our decision for us.

speaking of keeping both reservations. What is national's policy on uncancelled ressies? I know Dollar doesn't care if you cancel because I once tried to cancel a ressie and the guy on the phone said "oh, you don't have to do that"

If National has the same policy, why not just keep both ressies and decide when you get there. If they give you a hard time with the Continental, then you just use the priceless. :confused3

I too am a little concerned about using the code so I typed continental cool into my google search bar and the web site brings you to continental page on frequent flyers and special offers etc. So I am pretty confident it is a Continental contract id. I cant be sure why or who it is offered to though. It could be a special offer for seniors or others etc. But I did sign up for thier ff program.

Great idea! I did some searching of my own and found that CO.O.L. stands for Continental OnLine. I wasn't able to find out when this code was posted or to whom it was distributed but I'll keep searching.

I posted the exact question of origin of this code over at flyertalk.com. Above is the link. I only have 1 short reply, but it is a positive one.

I plan to keep both ressies until closer to my trip. I make a decision then. It isn't worth the hassle for $5, but we will see.

I'm a LONG-time FlyerTalk participant and agree that it is a wonderful site with lots of great information. I am also well aware of the many rental car codes available on that site.

I just want to clarify why I don't put all of the codes from FlyerTalk (and other boards) on MouseSavers.com. Rental car codes are posted to public boards by a variety of folks who may or may not know the source of those codes and the restrictions on them. Some of the posters are pretty accurate and ethical. Some are not. The codes they list are not always reliable.

For instance, I know for certain that some of the codes found on FlyerTalk are travel agent codes that technically require a valid IATA (travel agent association) card. Now, the truth is that National and some of the other rental car companies are not consistent about enforcement. You may get away with using such a code... or you may get a stickler at check-in and experience a gigantic hassle when you are asked for travel agent ID.

I am extremely careful to "vet" any codes I list on my site for accuracy, and I work hard to make sure I'm listing only codes that are intended for the general public. Before I list a code on my site, I almost always know the original source of it, and what restrictions (if any) apply. I also will not knowingly list codes that are supposed to be used only by travel agents, members of private organizations, etc. I'm certainly not infallible, but I do a huge amount of "due diligence" in researching the codes I put on my site.

In short, my goal is not for the MouseSavers lists to be "exhaustive," but rather to be accurate and dependable. If you choose to use the random rental codes you find posted on various boards, I sincerely wish you well in doing so. But don't complain if you run into a problem when you pick up the car!

Hi, I looked over at flyertalk and here so I don't think this has been addressed yet. Do we need a coupon for the Continental contract ID 5037126? If so, does anyone know where we get it? I have a Priceless Coupon printed out so I feel fine with that one; plus I've used Priceless my last few times renting without issues. I did book the Continental with a $4.00 savings, but I managed to get my friend a $22 savings on his mini-van and I want to make sure he doesn't have any problems. I'll just leave mine with Priceless.
Thanks everyone for your help and research!

Kim, where did you get the Priceless coupon? I registered with them but never saw anything to print out. ??
