Quoting is broken for me at the moment for some reason...
On a related note, she sent me this info from World of Walt:
Swan And Dolphin Testing
In separate but related news, Disney will start testing MyMagic+ for guests staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Walt Disney World Dolphin Resorts. This testing will take place from November 4, 2013 through January 12, 2014.
This will be the first test of the new technology with people who arent staying at a Disney Resort Hotel.
However, there is a key difference between the experience that guests of the Swan and Dolphin will have versus the experience guests of all the Disney-owned Resorts will have.
Guests at the Swan and Dolphin will not get MagicBands, and they will not be able to make their FastPass+ reservations in advance. However, they will be able to make same-day FastPass+ reservations by visiting a MyMagic+ kiosk in the park.
These changes no MagicBands and having to make only same-day FastPass+ reservations are pretty big differences.
Could this be a preview of the perks that Disney Resort Hotel guests will get meaning that only Disney Hotel guests will get the bands and advance FastPass+ scheduling?
Or does this just mean that Disney is just testing a different combination of elements as part of the overall testing process?
This appears more like a test of how "day guests" will be handled, without prior set up of accounts, etc.
There are no plans to give non-Disney resort guests MagicBands (although they may be able to purchase them), except for Annual Passholders, but they haven't done anything for them yet.
Advanced FP+ access is supposed to be available to all with an MDX account and valid ticket media, but the "test" hasn't been extended to the general public yet.
We tried it Sunday. I asked at the check-in desk - they didn't know anything about this test. I talked to the concierge, and there is supposed to be a marked "kiosk" specifically for Swan/Dolphin guests inside each park entrance.
At the International Gateway, the "kiosk" was actually a CM at a table next to the IG wheelchair/
ECV station with a placard on it with the S/D logos, and she had an iPad equipped with a scanner. She was actually late, so while I was looking for an actual kiosk, she walked past, and I had to ask the CM at the bridge where it was supposed to be.
By then there was a family of at least 8 in front of me, and the CM was trying to explain, made difficult that they weren't all there, and flitting in and out, and trying to decide who wanted what, etc. etc. Then after they were told they could only get Soarin' OR Test Track, and they
shouldn't use regular FP if they use FP+, they finally decided to not bother.
I was able to tell her she didn't need to explain anything to me.
I only needed to show my Dolphin room key, then she scanned my AP, and my wife automatically popped up. This was sort of interesting - yes, we are linked together, but so are my two kids, who didn't show up - but they weren't with us this trip. Not sure how they knew, or it just happened to be an "accurate glitch".
Things were definitely tiered. We selected three attractions, and it came up with an "optimized" random set of times. As I was only doing this for a test, and only cared about Soarin' (we were getting a regular FP for Test Track - if we could get there in time to get one that overlapped some friends who already had a FP+), I wanted as early as possible for Soarin'. But rather than edit the individual time, she kept asking it to get random times, seeing what was the earliest it could get. It came up with a 10am and we took it.
She asked if I wanted to take a screenshot of the iPad or have the itinerary emailed to me...no print options. She didn't even mention the app.
In general, I don't think many if not most of the S/D guests even KNEW about this. But if they did, this single CM at the IG would not be sufficient. By the time we got to Test Track, regular FP was already at 10:30am and accelerating rapidly...it was about noon within 10 more minutes.
AND - even though it was done with my AP AND it knew it was linked in MDX...I still cannot make FP+ selections via MDX in advance (like others who were "activated" after staying at a resort), nor could I make changes FROM THE APP. The app showed the FP+ in the plans, but I could not change them or make others.
No way they could handle non-resort guests this way at all.
