Thanks everyone. We are very excited to have him here with us.
Noah James arrived on June 10th at 9:07 am weighing 6 lbs 3 1/2 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. He is absolutely perfect and such little cutie. Monday I got up with plans to go buy a few weeks worth of groceries, so we'd be ready for when he got here, but I was having a lot of pain down low near my cervix so we stayed home instead. (I guess that pain was actually contractions.) Around 3:15 am I was getting ready to go to sleep and I had just drifted off when I rolled over and heard the 'Pop!' sound. Knowing what that was I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. Once I could walk again, I went downstairs and woke up Jamey (he's been sleeping in the guest room to get some rest) and told him it was definitely time! Then we both took quick showers and I called his mom to come stay with Andrew and we headed to the hospital. We got there at 5:15 and contractions had already started. They were about 7 minutes apart and by the time they got me to a room, changed and hooked up to a monitor they were 5 minutes apart and changing to back labor.
Contractions hurt!! I don't know how people do that naturally. Seriously, I've got new respect for your insanity. LOL Bring on the drugs for me! We found out who was on call to do the c-section and Dr. Tegeler came by to meet us and said he'd get to me as soon as he got back from taking his dog to the groomers. Yep! I fell behind the dog. LOL By then contractions were every 3 minutes and I was getting seriously uncomfortable, but our timetable was good. It was a little after 7 and they were planning to take me back about 8. It actually went really fast and Andrew and Nana made it just in time to give my big boy a kiss and assure him mommy was okay before I went back to surgery. The c-section went perfectly and little Noah did just great. He has the CUTEST little cry, very soft and the only baby I've ever heard that actually says "Waah".
They got me sewn back up and moved us all to the recovery room where Noah was eager to eat. He was a little champ and new what he was doing much better than mommy! Andrew came back and got to meet his baby brother. I don't think he expected to have the "feelings" for him that he did. He was smitten. We got to keep the baby for a little bit and then he was off to the nursery to get checked out and get his bath. As the twins did, he had trouble maintaining his body temp so he had to stay under the warmers for a bit, but they got him warmed up (for the moment) and brought him back.
We spent 3 nights in the hospital and had a few little complications, but nothing majorly wrong. His body temp was monitored closely and when it fell below 97, they had to take him for awhile. He's also a little anemic and a little jaundiced, but we are working on those things. He was born at 37 weeks exactly so I expected those little kinks. Luckily we got to come hom on schedule though with the promise that we'd keep him warm and he has an appt with his pediatrician tomorrow.
He is such a good baby! He's very laid back and takes everything in stride. He only cries when he's getting his temperature taken or his diaper changed. He's doing great with breastfeeding! We had to supplement a little in the hospital because he was having trouble with his first poopie (turns out he had a meconium plug that he had to pass), but we were able to use the dropper during breastfeeding instead of using a bottle. and only had to do that one day. I gotta say, though, that the best feeling in the world is being able to feed your baby and the sweet smile of contentment when they are done. Just warms you all over. Right now he's sleeping a whole lot, but he usually gives us two or three awake periods a day where he opens his eyes and really interacts with us.
I'm doing okay, just really, really sore and dealing with a rash on my torso and thighs. I think it's a reaction to the spinal, and hoping it clears up soon. Other than that I've had no complications.
I never thought I wanted another little boy, but God knew better than me cause I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with this little guy. He's so perfect and so beautiful and so sweet. It's hard to put him down. I just want to sit and stare at him all the time! And whoever said babies don't smile unless it's gas is crazy! He smiles after he eats and I can kiss the back of his hand and he'll just grin. He's so precious!
We did have one bad moment in the hospital. Friday morning at 6 am the fire alarms started going off, alarms and lights flashing, etc. Turned out to be a drill, but of course, I fell apart. It was not a good moment and that's all I'm going to say about it. They only do them quarterly and it just happened to be while I was there???
Anyway, we came home Friday afternoon and all has been going really well. Noah even sleeps for several hours at a time during the night without fussing so I am getting some sleep here and there. Still very tired, but that's okay. He's worth it!
