New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

DznyLvr2005

WELCOME!!!!

We have all been in your shoes and know exactly how your are feeling. We tried for over 10 years when we were pleasantly surprised with our daughter.

Once you hold your little one, all of the jitters disappear (until you are at your home w/o the help of the nurse) - but it all disappears in time and then you won't be able to remember how you ever lived without your little one in your life.!

Tifany

DznyLvr2005, Tifany is right! You're gonna be just fine! I look at my son everyday and go...what was my life like BEFORE he got here??!! He's the light of my life now and I can't wait to share with him and watch him grow. If you have any questions, just let us know we're here for you! :thumbsup2

DznyLvr, nice to see you "graduate" to this group!!! I know how it is to fear. I admit I didn't even have that over joy as soon as Dom popped out because he didn't cry right away (due to the drugs I had been on). All I cared about was hearing him cry and knowing he'd be okay. The stress has lessened considerably I admit, but it was so bad during pregnancy... especially at the end. Hang in there though

Welcome Dznylvr! When are you due? I can completely sympathize with the fear you are feeling... not at all for the part after the babies come, but every moment leading up to it. I still don't think I've let myself TRULY believe and rejoice in the fact that we are bringing two lives into the world in just a short while. I feel like I'm always waiting for something to happen. I think the "getting pregnant" was too big a dose of reality (instead of just coming by surprise), that I feel all too aware of how much of a gift I'm carrying and how very much it is not in my hands!

Hang in there.... it seems we're probably at about the same place; it will certainly get at least a little better soon, when the babies are totally viable, etc! :goodvibes

DznyLvr, welcome! I am pregnant with my first too and have been scared this whole time. The time really does fly though. It seems like just yesterday we found out and now I am due next week.

I went to the doctor yesterday and the NST went well (a complete 180 from Monday's test). This was a diferent doctor and she wants to wait until Monday or Tuesday to schedule induction. I couldn't schedule anything yesterday because they were updating their systems, so I need to call first thing Monday morning. His due date is the 6th, so he may end up being born that day; though my grandmother is hoping for the 4th, because it's her birthday.

I am very worried about induction. Some things I read says inductions are horrible and then others say it isn't bad at all.

Just thought I would pop in and give a quick update on the twins. They are growing soo fast! Check out the new avatar! Zoe is almost 12 lbs and Sam is just over 13 lbs. Both of them are also on Zantec for reflux. Sam was the screamer and Zoe the puker. Things are better, although now that Sam has discovered his hands...and I mean the boy is a little OCD about his hands...he gagged himself yesterday shoving his middle finders down his throat. I wanted to ask you formula feeders...about how much and how often are your babies feeding. Sam & Zoe do 6 feedings in 24 hours, Sam gets 5 oz and Zoe 4 1/2 oz. The are only waking once a night which is nice, and I think if they were both eating at least 5 oz consistantly I could skip the night feeding....sometimes we do have to wake them to eat at night. What do you think? They will be 4 months on the 11th, but adjusted age is only just over 2 months.

I am a normal lurker on this thread but I just wanted to add my 2 cents to this. If they don't wake to eat, don't wake them. Let them sleep. I have 3 boys and this is what I did with all of them.

I am not sure if they would be getting enough if we skip that night feeding though. They eat best if we stretch to 3 1/2 hours between feedings, but Sam barely finishes his 5 and sometimes Zoe will only want lie 3 1/2. I still just don't think we can drop a feeding yet, or even offer them more per feeding :confused3

Meredith, Dom here is 3 months old and a smidge bigger than Sam. I do think that you should begin to feed on demand unless you have been told by your ped to do otherwise. Dom now is going 5-8 hours at night between feedings. If he does that, he makes up for it by eating more often during the day. If he goes longer at night (like last night) he only makes it 3-3.5 hours between feedings instead of just around 4. Some nights he needs a feeding and other nights he is fine. Trust me, they will get what they need if you do on demand instead of schedules. A friend of mine gave me great advice. She said I needed to find things to let go of so my stress level diminishes. She suggested I start with food. She reminded me that if I had been able to breastfeed that I wouldn't know how much he got. She said just feed and don't keep track. I've been doing that for 2 months now and am much happier ;)

Just thought I´d share one of our 3-d pics from last wednesday.

Too cute, sucking on his toes!

Thanks for the welcome everyone...
I'm really scared because I had 2 m/c's before this pregnancy. One at 10 weeks the other at 5 weeks. Now I'm 19 weeks!! I can't believe it! I took clomid to get pregnant this time and I guess it was what I needed. I'm still a nervous wreck because I don't want anything to happen. I'm 1/2 way there! I've been carefully watched this whole pregnancy. i've had more sonograms and sonogram pictures of this baby, I probably have a full album already! We're really excited and are actually going to register tomorrow. I think we're past the danger zone. I'm due July 26th!
Thanks everyone for listening!

Congrats on your pregnancy. Glad to hear everything is going well.:goodvibes

Well I'm back from the hospital...I had Chase on the 28th at 9:15pm. My water broke at 5ish that morning and I was at the hospital by 7am. They admitted me but my contractions were not cooperating. They started Pitocin at 11am. I opted to try IV pain meds but it only worked until they increased the Pitocin...then I was ready for the Epidural. My Epi was great!!!! I still had mobility in my legs but my blood pressure dropped and they had to give me effedrin to get it back up. I started pushing but was not making any progress because I could not feel the lower part of my abdomen so they lowered my epi meds and I tried again.

The Dr. came to check my progess and said it would still be a few minutes and she has another lady who was ready to deliver so she left. 10 minutes later I finally pushed him out much to the surprise of the poor nurse who could only say how much she was going to be in trouble for delivering without a Dr. present.

So Chase came into the world weighing 6lbs 14 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. I will post pics tomorrow after I get them loaded.

Freyja, that is a really cool picture! Just out of curiosity, are the 3D ultrasounds regularly done in Iceland? They are still an extra cost here usually and not always done.

DznyLvr, I remember your history and I wish I could say you will eventually relax, but I can't say that I ever did. I think I finally relaxed about a week or four after Dom was born :rotfl: I do know the fears and having a miscarriage or two makes it all worse. Just hang in there... you'll be at the end before you know it!

Rebecca, congratulations on Chase!!!! I tried the IV pain meds too and with pitocin, they pretty much did nothing but make me woozy. I would have loved an epi, but oh well ;) I ccannot wait to see the pictures of Chase when you get to them!!!!

OMG Congrats! I remember when you just got your BFP!

Oh, that is hysterical! How cute!!

Meredith, I would really talk to your Pediatrician (or whomever might be following them, if there is a high-risk doc, etc). While it is often the most common advice to feed on demand, and it works for a lot of kids, many of the babies I have taken care of DO have to be put on a more stringent schedule and NOT allowed to graze, or they will not get enough intake. There are several sets of multiples, or just other preterm singletons that have to go on a strict feeding regimen (ie every 3 hours and nothing in between) so that they are hungry enough to get a good feed in when it is time. It's usually short term, and just gets them to bulk up a bit until you introduce solids, etc. I'd see what your MD thinks is best for your two! :goodvibes

Congratulations DisneyDreamer8!

:welcome: Welcome Chase! :welcome:

Thanks guys. I do have the twins on a schedule basically, and it is a schedule that works for feeding two and that the twins basically put themselves on. In our short time in the NICU, the only advice was to try to keep them to a three or four hour schedule or we would be insane feeding babies all the time! I was just trying to get an average of what babies about their age, adjusted and actual were eating (although I know all babies are different). I am not worried about them or anything, and neither is the Ped. They are in the 15th percentile actual age, and adjusted age they are in the 75th. :cool1:

Tink, how ya feelin these days? :goodvibes

Well in that case, keep doing what you're doing! :teeth:

I'm ... getting through :) I try not to complain too much, but I am certainly not one of those women who love being pregnant. Maybe it would be different with a singleton, but these girls are giving me a run for my money, in more ways that one. I'd elaborate, but I'm having a rough morning (physically and emotionally) and I think it would end up just a giant pity party! ;)

Let's just say I want them to stay in longer for sure, because they need to, but I sort of wish I could wake up and it would be June!

Thanks for asking, though :)
