New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

Congrats, princess pooh! Owen was a forcepts delivery, too, when his heart rate dropped suddenly and didn't come back up. Hope you are recovering well.

Owen's 2 month appt had some bad news for us - he's lost weight again (we'd suspected maybe something like that was up), and we've got 2 weeks of intensive nursing every 3 hours, then giving him a bottle of pumped milk. So I get to nurse him for 40 min. (20 min each side), then give him a bottle of at least 2 oz milk pumped previously, then pump for 20 min. :headache: So it adds up to over an hour of feeding/pumping, and I MUST do this every 3 hours for the next 2 weeks to see if his weight loss is an intake issue. If he gains good weight by the next appt, then we'll have to figure out what to do to make sure he eats enough. If he doesn't gain weight, then it's on to blood work and more tests. :guilty:

So I'm stressed and worried and so terribly tired I don't know what to do. Plus Owen doesn't sleep well unless he's being held. Sometimes we can get him to nap in his cradle if he's propped on his side, sometimes he'll sleep in the swing, but usually he has to be held. He does have a strong neck, so I've suggested to DH that we try him on his tummy, but DH isn't comfortable with it yet. We'll see...mommy is the one doing all the feeding work and not getting sleep, so mommy might just try it anyway because I'm so worn out and desperate I'll try anything at this point.

It's hard to not blame myself for Owen's weight loss. I keep going around and around with what might possibly be wrong with how I'm nursing him that he's not gaining enough. :sad2:

HANG TIGHT LADY! He'll come around and as someone has already said....this too shall pass. ;) :thumbsup2

I just read alot of this thread and am glad to see some folks that started over. DH and I have two boys 8 (almost 9) and 6.5. We found out a couple of weeks ago that I was pregnant and are nervous and excited. I had my NT scan today (I am 38 so considered advanced maternal age) and am waiting for the results. The baby is due 8/31 but it will probably be more like the middle of August as both boys were born by C-section at 37 weeks.

We have not yet told the boys as we are trying to figure out when the best time to do it will be. We did not want to tell them too soon but now that I am 12.5 weeks and we are going to start telling friends/family we want to tell them first. They will be in for a major change as this baby means they will either have to share a bedroom or one of them will need to move to the guest bedroom on the first floor or in the basement.

I'm a mom :cool1:

Bodie Dean arrived early on February 12th at 5:07 AM. My water had broke the morning before and they decided to induce me at midnight since I wasn't going into labour on my own. After 5 hours of labour and a scary cord around the neck /HR drop incident, they used forceps to pull him out. Thankfully my little guy was in great shape...he weghed exactly 7 pounds and was 20 inches long.

I'm absolutely exhausted and a bit overwhelmed, but I'm so completely in love with him. I'll post pictures of Bodie as soon as I can.

Congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures.

Congratulations! I was in pretty much the same boat as you.. I'm also 38, and just had my third. Now we have three girls (10, 8, and 1 month!) We didn't tell people for a while... wanted to get through that risky period first. When we did finally tell the girls, we showed them the first sonogram pictures... It took a few seconds for it to sink in, but once it did, they were very excited!! They were able to be at my first trimester screening, and loved seeing the baby on the screen :) I like your due date!! 8/31 is my birthday :)

Welcome, momsully!

I am in the same boat as well. I have 3 boys - 10, 8 and 5. I am 12.5 weeks as well (due 9/2) and just had my NS ( I am 34). We told the boys while we were at WDW a few weeks ago. I had to tell them b/c, well, I was starting to show a bit and they were wondering why I wasn't going on any rides. ;) They are very excited. Good luck telling your kiddos.

Well, I stayed up way too late last night reading consumer reports. Trying to pick a car seat and stroller. Funny, with my 10 yo we just went to Babies R US, picked out one we liked and threw him in the car.

Ladies....I've been bleeding for 12 days!!! I don't understand. My last period only lasted about 4 days. Why won't I stop???!!!!!

Hi Denise!

I hear ya - and I know what you mean! Izzy is 4 months old now and on Wed night I started my first real period since she was born and it is SO different then it was before -- I used to bleed for 2-3 days and it was light and now I am on day 4 and it is heavy -- when I use the bathroom it looks like a murder scene and I am flying through tampons and pads -- it so different and its freaking me out. I have not called my doctor yet.

My mom tells me that it is normal to have a really heavy and long "cleaning out" period as things start to return to normal -- so perhaps that is what you are going through as well.

Maybe give your doctor a call and bounce it off him/her since it has been 12 days!

Hang in there!

MickeyFliers - It is amazing all the new baby stuff that is out there compared to when we had our first. I need to get onto Consumer Reports and start reading because our car seat etc is out of date. Also, someone mentioned not to use the old crib matress so that is going out in the trash tonight!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Christopher is 10 months old, and that's how all of my periods have been. My husband keeps telling me he's suprised I haven't bled to death yet :)

Noooooo! Jen! Don't tell me that!!!! I have already ruined 3 pairs of underwear and a pair of pajamas. I feel like I am bleeding heavier now then I did after Izzy was born. Thanks for the "news" - I won't shot the messenger!

Thanks to everyone for the Peter Pan recommendations. Just find out that we might be going to Florida for a long weekend next month and if we do, I'm begging hubby to drive down to Downtown Disney for a day. Hopefully I can find some cute stuff there! :)

Congrats Momsully. I have an 8 (will be 9 by the time baby is born) yr old, and am 35, so I understand about starting over. It will all work out.

Denise, I had the twins in April and bled every day till December! It was horrible!!! The doctor put me on Depo Provera and it made me bleed so much that he gave me a second shot to help stop the bleeding - it didn't work and I guess I just got used to it. Thank goodness it finally ended. Hopefully I won't have that problem again. (It was just spotting after a little while though)

EVERYDAY??!! :faint: Oh heavens no! :crazy2: The first period I had last month was only about 5 days, so I just don't get it, but maybe a couple of you ladies are right, my body is choosing NOW to clean itself out! :scratchin If it's not gone by Wednesday. I'm calling my OB on Thursday. :coffee: I also miscalculated....I was looking at last month by accident and adding days to that...I've only been bleeding for 8 days as of today and it goes back and forth...light to heavy....heavy to light....BUT I can still only use about 2 pads a day so I don't get it.:confused3

Denise,

I have been abnormal from the get go. I had Abigail in November - did the regular cleaning out until the 1st part of December. Then, between December 4 and January 8, I had 4 periods. On for 7 days off for 2.

I haven't had anything since January 8 and of course took a test. I wasn't pregnant again; but you know what they say, the best cure for infertility is pregnancy!

Anyway, my doctor was really surprised with my periods, since I am only nursing Abigail and not supplementing her.

I explained that with everything else with me, abnormality seems normal. I am the only person that I know of that had normal cycles on the Norplant!

Denise, my first period back was very odd. It was very long for me and never that heavy. I also only bled for about 3 weeks after delivery. Then my first period came at about 6.5 weeks after delivery and went on for 8 days. I think it would have continued had I not started BCP. I didn't feel liked dealing with painful periods again and since at the moment both Luis and I do not feel like trying this again due to me getting so sick. I don't know how my bleeding was for the first day or so after delivery because I was bedridden and never got to see any of it. I do know they had me on pitocin 24 hours after delivery to make sure the uterus contracted a lot... this was to help make sure I didn't bleed out with my low platelets. I don't think mine was totally normal because of that. But even on BCP, my period was 5 days and I am used to 3-4 when on it.

Welcome to the group momsully! I hope you have a healthy pregnancy!

I think I hear Dom waking up, which means it will be feeding time soon.

Don't blame yourself. His little body is just growing at his own pace. Have you considered adding cereal to his bottle?

Those first periods are a nightmare. Welcome to motherhood! It took 6-7 months for mine to get close to normal for me. Good luck!

The doctor just called with our NT results and our risk of Down's went from 1/75 (due to my age) to 1/6800! :cool1: Hopefully everything else will continue to go smoothly.

Thanks for the info Elaine. Funny thing is...I'm on BCP! :confused3 Now this should be the week my period arrives as it's sugar pill time, so we'll see what happens. Well little man just woke up, let me go nurse! Thanks!
