New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

hello everyone . . . I'll be posting some new photos later today or tomorrow.

Just wanted to give an update . . . Abigail is now 14 1/2 weeks (3 1/2 months) and weighs 11 lbs 3 ozs. We are so surprised with this weight gain. In January she was 9 lbs 9 oz so she gained almost 2 lbs in a little over a month!

Ped. says that she must be enjoying mom's milk because she is growing like a weed! Anyway, she sleeps from 8:30 - 9:00 at night until 6:15 a.m. when we get her up for breakfast and get her ready for daycare. She is such an easy going baby! Also, during the night, she doesn't have a dirty diaper. When we get her up in the morning for breakfast, we always change her diaper. Every morning she has a clean dry diaper!

So, all of the other new mom's, how is your little one doing with nighttime sleeping? We are waiting for her to roll over so we can see it. Question, when they begin to roll over, is that the time you need to take out the bumper pad in their crib? I can't seem to find an answer to this question.

Tif

Thank you guys for advice. We just ordered his crib today and will get the mattress sometime soon. I'll ask my DH when he wants to get it. The first crib we looked at had a wait list of 75 people for it  So we got our 2nd choice ;)

Tif, I am jealous. Dom is just shy of 3 months right now and no signs of sleeping through the night. He will go as much as 5-6 hours between feedings though at night. I think he is hitting a growth spurt though. He's eaten a lot more today, slept a lot more and been a grump. I hope that once he gets through this one, that he will settle down even more. Considering we had sleeping issues with him until 6 weeks, I guess we aren't doing that bad. He's 12 pounds the last time I checked and maybe on Friday I'll take him to be weighed just to see. He's pretty much doubled his weight since birth though :faint:

Tif - sounds like you have a good little sleeper! That is great!! :thumbsup2 Brady was also a good sleeper, and we were worried that once he could roll over, we would lose our good sleeper b/c he hated being on his tummy. Well, now that he can roll over, we strategically place him in the crib at night. He can only roll one way, so we lay him on his back close to the bumper the way he usually rolls. He will get up on his side when trying to fall asleep, but can't get any further b/c the bumper is in the way. So, he falls back down and goes to sleep on his back. So far so good with this strategy!! He's kinda funny in that he rolls everywhere and moves around everywhere during the day, but in his crib at night, he really just stays on his back and doesn't roll too much around in the crib. So.....as you can see, we still have the bumpers in his crib. We actually only have them across the back-side, tied very tightly. Once he can sit up on his own, we will take them out so he doesn't use them to pull himself up/out of the crib!!

Holly, Amanda is so cute. I love the way she's looking at her teddy!

Congrats Basketrn. Welcome to the group.

AFM: I've been out of town. My grandma (Granny) passed away Valentine's morning, so we just got home from out of state. :(

I got Noah's bedding ordered from Penney's and it's a special order so it could take up to 11 weeks! I want it NOW! ;) All is going well though. He's an active little baby and I love feeling him move around.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandma!

I'm officially due on the 20th... but today the doctor placed pressure on my cervix (I was dilated to 2) and they don't have my induction scheduled til the 24th...
But....I've been throwing up alot since I left the dr....
and I think I may now be at the beginning stages of labor....Gawd I hope so..
I'm MISERABLE>...
lol
Not waking up daddy yet tho...lol

Oh, keep us posted! I hope you are delivering (or at least feeling better) quickly! :wizard:

We had our Level II today. It was quite rushed (compared to what we were expecting for 2 anyway... still about an hour or so) because the perinatologist was running the show, and she's super important! ;) It was nice to see them though, and they were both holding their own in quite the boxing/kicking match!

Everything looks good -- all parts accounted for, growing fairly symmetrically, cervix is almost 3cm and closed, which we were somewhat concerned about.

Our bedding and nursery "stuff" (valances, etc) also came today.... they are every bit as adorable as we had hoped! :goodvibes

I hope the rest of you are doing well!

Well my Dr. appt went well today. I'm GBS negative. She did an internal check and I'm 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated. She doesn't think I will make it until my due date. Her prediction is I will go 1 week early and that he will be betweeen 8 and 9 lbs. :woohoo: :woohoo: :thumbsup2

Tink, I am glad the level II went well! Sorry it was a little rushed though... I know mine was about 45 minutes.

Rebecca, woo hoo on the negative. That one for some reason really worried me. You sound like I was with my birth. Even though I was induced, they are convinced I would have gone on my own the next few days (I was induced at 38.5 weeks)

An amazing thing happened last night... Dom slept through the night for the first time ever!!!

Elaine this is awesome! I will tell you, I have some nights when Mo will sleep for about 6 or 7 hours. Like Tuesday night, he went down at 10 and didn't wake to nurse til nearly 4am. However last night, he went down at midnight and was up at 4am to feed and again at 5:30 again at nearly 7 and now we're up for good here at 9:20 in the morning! :dance3: I have a friend who tells me once he reaches 3 months, he'll sleep much longer throughout the night. I'm looking forward to it. I'm told that my breasts will get used to the longer times in between nursing too and won't hurt as much. Let's hope so. :rolleyes1

Mo and I had our first "true" mommy and son date. The times in the park are different, we only do that about a half hour at a time. This time we drove about 45 minutes into a town called Sandestin and shopped at the outlet mall for nearly 2 1/2 hours! MO DID GREAT!! Slept the WHOLE time! :goodvibes It was such a beautiful day too. We're going back with Charles on Sunday when I get off work and I can't wait. We haven't had a "true" family day since Mo got here. We went to the park one Sunday, but that only lasted about a half hour because we went so close to sunset. Mo and I discovered a SONY store at the outlet...Charles really likes SONY and Mo and I can't wait to take him there! :cheer2: :yay:

Elaine-Congrats on Dom sleeping so long!!! I must say I'm looking forward to those days. I know I've got a while before I get a full nights sleep again but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Denise-I'm glad that Mo did so well while shopping. I hope you guys have a wonderful family outing :goodvibes

Quick question: How long did you spot (if you did) after your internal exam? I didn't have anything until late last night and now there is a little more today.

Once Alex learned to roll over, he started sleeping on his stomach almost immediately, I think it was around 4 months. The pediatrician said this was ok, since he could roll over, that decreases the SIDS risk. Besides, what are we supposed to do, stay up all night and put him on his back every time he rolls onto his tummy? Now that he is older, he is always all over his crib. I always put him to sleep on his back in the same place, but he is never there, even an hour later if I go check on him.

For the new mommies still waiting for babies to sleep through the night, my pediatrician also said that it usually has more to do with weight than age, and most babies start to sleep through the night around 12 lbs. Luckily for us, DS grew fast, and started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks, 1 week before I had to go back to work. :thumbsup2 So keep feeding those babies!

I'm glad to know that so long as Mo can roll over that reduces the risk of SIDS. He's got this thing for being on his left side in this bassinet, but never makes it fully over on his tummy. :rolleyes1 Like now, he's asleep in his crib, on his back. Well he is 12 pounds and that may explain why he's sleeping a little better through the night. :woohoo:

You know I have been told that as well. I am not sure how big Dom is at this moment, but when he got around 12 pounds he really started sleeping longer. At night we never had less than 4 hours between feeding. Most of the time we got around 5 or so.

Denise, for the longest time, we had 4 hours on teh dot between feedings. Now it seems like he will go between 3-4 hours on 6 oz during the day (he'll take between 5-6) and at night longer. So I think my schedule is going to be unknown since this is changing on us. It's been that way all week. Sounds liek you had a great day! In a way I am envious. Dom never sleeps more than 2 hours at a stretch. Mostly 30-60 minutes here and there. He's up a LOT!

I will admit this, Dom is a tummy sleeper. He will NOT sleep on his back. However he was born with really strong neck muscles. He had more control at 1 month than my friend's baby did at 4. He used to squirm so much that he'd roll himself over all swaddled up (not swaddled he won't sleep but can't). The doctor said we should probably give up and knowing that he could push up on his arms and lift his chest and head at 6 weeks, that he would most likely be fine (being able to do that with good control supposedly helps decrease the risk of SIDS since the body is strong enough to take care of itself). He's beginning to work on rolling over, but not quite there yet. Also with his reflux, the stomach sleeping was better for him. We co-slept until 6 weeks when we decided him sleeping by himself like that was okay. I can't imagine what life would be like if we were still trying to get him to sleep on his back. There, I said it, we are horrible parents ;)

New photos . . . Abigail is 3 1/2 months now and is turning into a little chatter box. She gets so excited when she gets on her changing table. She stars cooing and giggling and kicking her legs everytime we put her on the table!

I never spotted... are you sure it isn't your mucus plug? I lost mine at exactly 37 weeks. I think I was around 2-3cm dilated at that point and they said it was common to lose it when you hit around there.

Tif, great pictures! I took a ton of Dominic today. Funny thing is this kds smiles at me so much. The moment I put my camera in front of me it goes away. I get lucky to get the ones I do of him smiling :teeth:

Amanda had her 1 month check up today, and she's doing well! She's now up to 10lbs 14 oz (85th percentile), and 22 inches long (74th percentile). Though she has a mild case, the doc is putting her on Zantac for reflux. Thankfully, she gave her a show during the exam (and she had eaten a little over an hour earlier!). If this Zantac works, I think I may have the most content little baby in the world!

As for sleeping through the night.. She's a great sleeper! Last night, for example, she slept from 1am until 7 am this morning! :) Mommy feels good! :)

Thanks for the response. I don't think it is the plug it looks more like the tail end of AF. Just brown tinged mucus. I guess as long as it is not red I'm ok.

Abigail is adorable!

Dom is on zantac and OMG, is he a totally different child on it. He loves to smile, play, and have fun in general! He went from a "fussy" child on the nice end to the fun sweet boy he is now! His was more of the silent type so we had spit ups, but it wasn't the weight loss and massive messes that others deal with. The only bad thing about zantac is you need to keep upping the dose as they grow.

Just to let you know mine was mostly brown tinged mucus. I was told that it ranges from slightly yellow to brown to pink to red streaked. Most of it came out in a big chunk, but I had some small bits here and there later.
