New MK resort?

When they build a new resort there it most likely will not be DVC. My guess would be a 5 star hotel that costs big $$$$. If that happens I foresee more GF buildings ( 1 or 2) converted to DVC.

I respectively disagree. They cannot book their current so called 5 star resorts, they are not going to look to add more.
Within a year, you will have Tron and Guardians open along with Galaxy's Edge which most folks still haven't experienced. Not to mention, the continued alleviation of a certain virus I don't feel safe mentioning here.

Crowds are going to grow.

Makes you wonder how long Cheapek is looking into the future with this development...

Five or six years ago, according to my bus driver, a decision was needed between Reflections and MK loop location for the next DVC resort. Bob I went with his mastery of all things Disney and began Reflections, a big part being Water Country could be covered over as well as expand Fort Wilderness type of environment. Covid killed it. Now Bob C has looked at the same information, says the data clearly points to the MK loop on Seven Seas, and green lit that project. His argument of ARG (average revenue per guest) is higher at GF, so we need augment that type of hotel. Who would have guessed that bus drivers were so insightful?

Wish I knew this bus driver...

Also makes you wonder what they will do with the River Country area next?

100% agree with you, but it will not be a 5 star cash resort, it will be whatever you want to rate a new DVC resort.

This project is to improve access to the lower part of WDW from those entering from Reams Rd. It has nothing to do with a new resort.

Sorry, that's not the reason its being built.

You can see from this picture that its all a part of improving access to the parks and resorts for those entering from Reams Rd.

As a local, I come in that way all the time. The work is ongoing.

THIS^

This project is years old in discussion and part of the overall improvement to traffic management on property. I don't think folks realize how much is happening north of the Magic Kingdom, Disney wise and it's a road used by many who live north of the area.

Just recently I saw some "blog" sites put out the rumor that it could be for a new resort so I understand people thinking that. Personal opinion, IF Disney were going to add a resort I don't think it will be there - more likely Reflections would be back on the plan - it was to be a DVC resort. I do believe Disney would like to stay away from building any hotels they own/manage and future developments of theirs will be DVC. BUT I don't think we'll see a resort on that property for a variety of reasons.

While I would love a new DVC monorail hotel, the fact is that the monorail is falling apart. Plans to replace it have been put on hold. They have shored it up, but largely they are cannibalizing parts from deactivated trains. The parts and materials do not exist to build another stop (literally, they do not exist nor do they have the manufacturing capacity to make them) until they upgrade the system and that's a 2+ year very expensive project in and of itself which would have to be completed prior to any hotel opening. Given that they are still bleeding EPCOT, you now have a backlog of about 10+ expensive multi-year projects that would have to be complete before they could take on the monorail and then a new monorail resort.

It's much easier to take the plot of land they already leveled and cleared where River Country used to be and just turn that over. Water ferry stops are EASY.

IF Disney were to build a new hotel right now (and I am not convinced they ARE), they would likely plan it in an area to be serviced by Bus, Water and Sky as all of those are easily tacked onto the existing transport infrastructure. Not saying a new hotel will NEVER be built there. But Disney does not think far enough ahead that they would be moving the road for that at this time.

To be honest, when they build a new hotel, I am expecting it will be an experience hotel similar to the Halcyon. That's a new concept which I think they can take serious advantage of.

Disney does not have a 5 star hotel. But there is one on property, Four Seasons. They will turn the rest of the Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and some of Grand Floridian to DVC. They know they can do this and have done it. Then they will build a uber luxury hotel there.

They need to make a resort that has the breathtaking theming like AKL or Wilderness

Haven’t seen that in any recent place.
I actually think the Riviera has some of it, you just have to know where to look for it. And I think it will improve over time. The two restaurants up on top will be favorites for a lot of guests. The art, the great QS. The area out by the lake. And I love Bar Riva. I think the "under one roof" hotels tend to have more of that feeling.

Extremely doubtful.
They pulled the plug on Reflections after doing a lot of the work to prep the land and even put rebar in and then removed it.
Don't think they are planning any other resorts until business picks back up.

let’s say it takes three years to build the resort. I have no idea just guessing but whatever time it takes to build a new resort wdw will be back to full capacity. As time goes by people are getting less scared of covid all the time. Sure there will be some people still scared of covid in a few years but the majority of people would of got on with their lives.

That could be a bi reason to build in that spot as well though. With how close it is to MK's entrance they don't necessarily need a monorail stop as it is a very short walk to the park or that monorail station. The new foot bridges allow this access and would also mean they wouldn't have to utilize as many busses for that resort compared to others as well. So a location that is already near an existing park and monorail stations will save them a bunch in transpiration expenses without having to add more stations to their existing lines.

I always thought they could have made a stop at the WL for the monorail to Epcot. The monorail line is so close to the entrance!
