new miley cyrus video

Is this song as outrageously autotuned as Party in the USA? :rotfl2: DD and I were in Justice recently and that song came on, followed a few minutes later by some song by a girl singer I was not familiar with. (Neither was DD.) That song was also autotuned to death. I said to DD, "Hey, the same computer sings that song as the computer that sings Party in the USA." :lmao: DD tried to be indignant, because she loves Miley Cyrus, but even she had to admit, the voice was a near duplicate. I like to think of it as HAL's granddaughter. (2001)

DH and I both think Miley will be in Playboy within 5 years. It's too predictable. She started out a manufactured Disney product with precious little actual singing talent and was mass marketed to little girls and tweens. Now she wants to appeal to an older audience and by and large, I don't think it's going to work, no matter how much she sexes herself up. As her music sales start to fall off, so will her clothes.....in direct proportion. Good heavens, you'd think she had just now discovered she had T&A and that she alone had them. :rotfl:

As for Billy Ray having "control" over her....That ship sailed years ago. I don't think he ever really tried. He was clear about wanting to be her best friend. Personally, I think a father was more in order as there is a limited supply of those as opposed to potential friends, but that's just me. "Best friends" are never big on saying "no" and setting limits. Sometimes parents must. Being a best friend is MUCH easier than being a parent. Heck, I'm still cringing over the way he....interacted......with her on the Vanity Fair Shoot. :scared1:

Yeah, she is 17...but she has been a teen star for how long now? Years for sure. You have to grow up in that type of environment. I was commenting on the fact that it just reminded me of the first video that Britney Spears put out when she was trying to get past being the poster queen for 12 year olds.

I agree it was a little on the stripper side but hey, I am 45 and I think that way. She will be seen as uber cool as Brit in no time in the older teen group she is wanting to be seen as cool in.

I am not, nor have I ever been, in love with much that was Miley/Hannah Montanna. But, my 8 yo grandd was and that makes me a listener too by default. I thought the song was catchy, the video so so but all intents and purposes a definite difference in Miley.

I don't like it at all...she's only 17, but again, in Hollywood, 17 is actually 30. She needs something to do with her time...might as well be bad. We get it...you can't be tamed, so you are going to spread your wings and fly far away from Disney and Hannah Montana. It's a tacky video, like most of them are - it's just a venue for the exhibitionist to show off her body. We get it, Miley, you have breasts and hips! It always amazes me when artists bite the hands that feed them: Britney, Miley, American Idol winners, etc. Maybe they should give back all of the millions they made during those times. I could understand if she were 21 and still being typecast as HM, but she's only 17, and is still taping Season 4 of the show, for goodness sakes.

Tiger

This. She's trying to be sexy and adult? She still has a baby face!

And trying to act sexy does not = being "grown up" :sad2: I much prefer Taylor Swift over Miley though I'll readily admit Miley has the better voice. Taylor's lyrics sound like they're written by fourteen year-olds but it's not like Can't Be Tamed is any more profound.

I saw this video last night, while the song is catchy the video is not. Miley is 17 and not someone like Lady Gaga or Madonna who could get away with this. She's trying to break out of the Disney mold which is fine but this is not the route to go. Is she trying to show that little girls should go around and wear stuff like this and dance like that. I'll admit I like Miley's music, a lot of it is on my iPod and I own the Hannah Montana concert and movie on DVD and while I'll probably download the song, I just don't think I can watch the video again. Unfortuntely I believe that Miley and her family have 'gone Hollywood' which is a shame since it happens to so many. But seriously will Miley be around in 10-15 years? Music is constantly changing and if you can change with it (including your fans) you can stay in the game but if not you're gone. New acts are always coming around the corner.

It's funny. The first thing I thought of when I watched the video was that this was her thoughts towards the Disney Company. The whole I'm a bird in a cage and can't be tamed reminded me a lot of the tune she's been singing for a while now, since she first wanted to go out and do her own thing and not be Hannah Montana.

Right! No amount of rubbing yourself, bumping up against girls, and spreading your wings (whatever the heck that means!), is going to make you appeal to a wider audience if you aren't talented. Although, it worked for Britney, it only worked for a short time - I can't imagine Miley will be around in 5 years, yet alone in 10 or 20.

It's sad she needs to resort to this, but that's what happens when people tell you that you are actually talented. There comes a day when you realize that disconnect isn't going to work anymore - it's easy to convince 10 year old girls that you are talented, when you yourself are just a little 13 year old playing a character on a Disney show.

She's stepping into a much bigger world now, and I'm thinking it's a world that neither she, nor Billy Ray as a her manager really understand, as they've lived in the world of manufactured music and acting for so long (he can't sing nor act either, neither can her little sister or her brother).

Only time will tell...Tiger

Agreed. Only difference is that I think Miley won't become a Britney. I also like how Miley is allowing herself to growup, as opposed to Taylor Swift's saccarine teeny-pop drivel.

I'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift, but Taylor's actually a musician who doesn't use technology to cover her voice.

Don't we re-visit the whole Miley's grown up , no she's she still just a kid thing everytime she has a video. I recall that people had an issue with her Party in the USA video because she was wearing short shorts and shaking her hips and dancing with girls.

I didn't like the song but I think she looked beautiful in the video. I like it, I think if she did it in a way that would satisfy the people who think she is still just a kid she'd come across as corny and looking like nothing more than Big Bird.

she really, really, really needs to use technology...the girl can't sing...

Not a kid, but how about age appropriate? She's only 17, so she's in between being a kid and an adult. Just like if she were prancing around on stage with a pacifier in her mouth, it would look equally silly. In my opinion, and many others, she looks silly - contrived, forced and manipulated to sell records.

17 year olds don't walk around looking like that, except in Hollywood. :rotfl2: So, for me, it just looks forced - "Hey, look at me. I have breasts and I'm not a little girl anymore, so buy my records!"

I seriously believe she isn't talented at all - right time, right place, right manager. So, I totally know why she feels she needs to act this way, but it's very forced and manufactured to me, and I can't stand bands/singers who do that. They do it because they know that they aren't unique, and so the only way to capture the market, is to act this way - truly talented people don't need props and such to sell their music.

Tiger :)

What a non-issue. She's doing what every other manufactured pop tartlet does. She's trying to transition into adulthood through blatant sexuality because she has no real talent to speak of. The only sad part of this is that she still has legions of young fans who are going to watch her go through this and they're all going to think it's cool to behave this way. :sad2:

Man you guys are fuddy duddy's.;)

I was never into HM or Miley, but the argument with "talent" with today's artists is just silly.

I think the question is who does NOT manufacture their music? Anyone......Bueller? Anyone?

:rotfl:

Actually, if you listen to Miley sing live, she is actually quite talented. Give the girl a guitar and a mic, and she is pretty good.

Taylor on the other hand...ouch. Sweet girl, but way to many "i'm a princess" songs and hardly ever in tune while singing live.

i like the song too! very catchy! i can SORT of understand why people would think the video was "too much" she IS only 17 and her shorts were awfully short and she was wearing some pretty high boots, and dancing suggestively with other girls in the video, but i didn't think it was "OMG SCANDALOUS"....but then again i also didn't think it was that great either lol

At 17, I was out of HS, living on my own, active duty military and going to college part time. :confused3 I wore short shorts and went to clubs and danced in ways that my mom wouldn't have approved of, but you know what, I'm a normal, productive member of society 11 years later. My life wasn't ruined and I'm sure hers won't be either. My girls and I love listening to Miley, I'm gonna miss her music, but I'm glad she is trying to grow up and find herself as a young woman.

Actually, they do. I always find the threads about her clothes funny. I was a teen in the 80's and I had mini-skirts as short as her short shorts in her Party in the USA video and my generation was not the one to invent the mini-skirt! Watch an old Brady Bunch show and see how short Marsha's skirt is!

good point - at 17, I was in college and responsible for myself and my own actions!!!!!

She has been in the business long enough to know what she wants to do and what direction she wants to go in. I think picking acting over music is a very good decision - given what others have had to say about the two. Rashida Jones has basically said the same thing and she should know having grown up in the business - her dad is Quincy. I'm thinking this decision possibly shows maturity and good sense on Miley's part..... I think that is a better assumption than the "she's gonna end up in Playboy" or she's "gonna end up like Britney."

I am not her biggest fan, but I don't see this as all that scandalous or a sign of worse things to come.

Miley has an interesting voice- it's not your cookie cutter pop kind of voice- it's a little hoarse and edgy. It does make her stand out- IMO

Not to mention Miley writes alot of her own songs, and whether or not you can sing them, writing songs that your fans will love, or make you new fans does take quite a bit of talent.
I've seen her live she puts on a good show especially for such a young lady.

When my dd16 almost 17 was asked by one of her many non-virgin friends why she was still a virgin--her response was that she has integrity.

And you'd have to see my dd--she has looked like she's been in 20's for years and yes has the height and looks to go with the package--it's been a long couple of years trying to keep the road straight.

Integrity--I just don't see it in this video--and this video certainly will not be helping all of us mothers out there who it seems have to give THE talk almost on a nightly basis :sad2:
