New Member's silly ? about 11 month window

Just received my member ID number and already made reservations for February. (very excited) I've been reading on this board that people call 11 months in advance day by day for difficult times. What happens if you call at the end of month with fewer days then the month you are trying to book? For example you call at the end of February (28 days) and are looking for a reservation at the end of Janaury (31 days)? When can you book January 29,30, 31? Also, I booked at the BWV with preferred view. Can you request a location for your room (i.e. Looking over the Luna pool) ? Lastly, on a side note some of the people on this board should get together and write a book. I heard somewhere that there were about 85,000 member and growing. I know I would buy it.

yes you would

you only need to do the day by day reservations on hard to get days - Thanksgiving, Easter, Dec 1-14 - always ask MS - they will tell you if you need to call back everyday or you can wait until the end to make your reservations.

summer are generally not difficult.....

if you want the BCV or BWV for the food/wine festavial it can be - always call the first day and ask.

I'm a relative newbie to this, but I think I can help with most of your questions:

I was told that the 11 month window goes by check OUT date. For example, I want to book a trip in which I will arrive 10/2/05. I can book the first day of that trip on 10/3/04. This happens to be a real case scenarion, I actually will be calling tomorrow to book a 2BR standard at BWV for 10/2.

Yes you can request a luna pool view with a preferred view but it is just that--a request, there is no guarantee. Again, real life scenario (coincidentally): I requested Luna Pool for my preferred view on my last trip just a few weeks ago. I ended up getting a view of the quiet pool and community hall. (But I got my other requests, non smoking and top floor). The only view you CAN request and have guaranteed (if available when you call) is a Boardwalk view.

As far as preferred view recommendations, it's totally a personal thing. I've been reading these boards for a while, even though I only became a DVC member a few months ago. In my own EXTREMELY unscientific opinion it seems Boardwalk views are the #1 preferred view. Personally I like the standard views which are quiet and away from the hustle and bustle (less points too!), but from my observations here I am in the minority. The only reason I took preferred view for my last trip was there were no standards available because I didn't call at the 11 month window.

It is the questions that you didn't ask - that causes you to lose points - or to not be able to make the reservation you wanted because it was off season and not popular.....

Yes, it goes by Check-OUT date but with the following exception.

If there is no corresponding date to the check-out date, then you may make your reservation on the last day of the month. Example: You have a vacation with a check-out date of October 31st. Thus 11 months prior would be November 31st, but that's not a real date. In this case there is no corresponding date to the check-out date, so you would make your reservation on November 30th, which is the last day of the month.

Here's how it reads from the DVC literature:

"The 'corresponding date' is the date of check out for the desired reservation; if check out is to occur on June 25th, then the corresponding date is the 25th. If there are no dates that correspond directly to the reservation check out date, then the last day of the month is when reservations may be requested. For example, a Member who wishes to check out on January 31, may request that reservation on February 28."
