New members - reservation problems

Have someone transfer 2 points into your account. Then book BWV's.

This will work only if one is allowed to combine regular points with developer's points. We haven't yet verified if that is possible, so before doing this call to check.

I'm curious about the developer points - can they be used at DVC resorts or only at other WDW resorts? Any of you new purchasers have the details?

KCL, we purchased 180 pts last year, took the 180 pt incentive as well, our use year is June. I just made a ressie today for 9/24-10/01 for Boardwalk in a 1 BR. We had to use 20 points from our June 05 allotment. We had no problems except for the fact that 20 of the points had to be in the 7 month window so I had to wait until Mar. 1. I was told at purchase, last July, that the dev. points could be used at ANY of the WDW resorts EXCEPT for SSR, since what we actually bought was still under construction. I would try calling back & then maybe get in contact with your guide to find out what the problem is. Good luck.

Thanks everyone.
We called back today and all is taken care of.

The final word is that we can not use the incentive (developer) points at SSR, but can use them anywhere else. That's the deal because it is still being constructed,....

As for the 2 point issue, member services was incorrect the first time around. As we thought, we can use 2 points from our current 05 use year and add them to the 180 incentive points. We are not borrowing since the 2 points are coming from the current year. We were able to book at the BWV after all.

Thanks again for the help everyone.

KCL, I'm glad everything worked out. BWV is where we just booked as well. We have always loved that area - maybe an add-on in our future ;) .

We bought in at SSR earlier this year as well. There was a similar incentive thing going on at that time, which we didn't choose to take advantage of. I think the deal was that we could get $10/point off, as long as we agreed to NOT USE our points during the first year. What this amounted to was we were buying in UY 2004, but could not use our points in UY 2004. We could only begin using the points in the 2005 UY.

So, as another poster pointed out, we would have had had no points to use anywhere, on this contract, until the next UY begins.

This was pretty confusing, but we finally figured it out. We decided that we definitely wanted to use the points in the current UY, so we paid full price and have been contentedly using our points ever since.

As for buying additional points to fill out a need for a particular stay - my understanding is that the minimum contract they'll write is 50 points. So, from Disney, you can never buy less than 50 points, and then you're getting the full DVC-membership deal: 40-50 year term, welcome packet, deed, etc..

If you want a few extra points for a single stay in a particular year, you need to pick them up on the aftermarket, i.e., the rent/trade board.

I hope I've not just confused the issue more for you.
