Hello everyone! I'm new to the board and new to the DVC. We are in the process of buying 150 points at BCV after our trip to WDW last week.

First of all I want to thank everyone for posting so much info here. It has really helped evaluating the decision to purchase! Just reading through a couple of days worth of posts answered many of the questions that were running through my mind. We looked at a couple of other options (Fairfield and Marriott), but decided the flexibility of DVC and our goal of going to WDW every 12-18 months for the next several years made the DVC our best option.

Question #1: I see many here talking about staying several days at one WDW resort then several days at another WDW resort in the same trip. My question is how do you handle luggage, groceries, etc? Packing/unpacking, loading-up/unloading are my least favorite parts of vacation and doing it several times during a trip is not very appealing (but resort hopping might be). Does Disney help out with moving between resorts?

Question#2: I know the current options to make reservations are via phone or internet request (with a response within 48 hours). Are there any future plans for (instant) online reservations? I've grown attached to Yahoo Travel and other online services with the ability to immediately check availability and reserve online. It seems like it could be a cost-saving measure for Disney (fewer phone reps and long-distance charges)...

welcome home neighbor and welcome to the DIS!

I am not a DVC expert but I will take a stab at your first question. We will have our first trip home in November and we're staying at Hilton Head for 4 days and then OKW for 5 days. The part I dread the most is the packing, unpacking and packing up again.

For my family I think a good strategy will be stay at a resort at least three nights to really feel like we're on vacation but I'll have to see how things work out on this trip. We are used to trying two DVC resorts per trip (usually we start out at a moderate and then switch to a deluxe or start out at Disney and switch to a Universal hotel) but I don't truly feel like I have had time to relax on vacation when we have done that. This past December we spent 6 days at the Hilton Head resort and I loved not having to pack up and move!

For next year's trip I want to spend a few days at Disney and then the rest of the week at Vero Beach but I dread the packing up and moving dance I know we'll have to do so for us, this trip will determine if we will be "resort hoping" on any future DVC trips.

I'd love to hear comments from other members on how they handle this too.

Again, welcome home!!!

Welcome home!!

And the answers for your questions have been covered before. I fyou take a look through the old threads here you will find indepth answers. I will give quick version ;)

#1) Not everyone does this. I don't forsee us switching resorts unless we had to. I hate the packing and moving as well. BUT if you do you can have Disney move your luggae and stuff from one resort to the other. Just for groceries that need to be kept cold, you keep them seperate and let the CM know (several times to be safe) that they need to go in the fridge at the storage areas.

#2) Everyone is hoping for the online reservations system, but I would not count on it soon. I would expect Dsiney to spend the money for CRO to get online first, and then DVC would find a way to hook onto it. Just guessing here :) on my part.

Congratulations and welcome home!

I think people move for two reasons. 1) weekend points are high so they stay at a different hotel and 2) they like to try out different resorts. I for one hate unpacking and packing. I will stay our first night at a less expensive resort if we get in late and we don't unpack except for the essentials and then move in the morning, Disney moves the luggage for you so that part is painless, it the packing and unpacking I don't like and won't do. I figure with DVC I have the next 40 years to try out different resorts, I don't have to do it in one stay.

I hope that some day soon that they will have reservations on-line, but I am not expecting it anytime in the near future.

Welcome Home! We recently closed on our BCV deed and can't wait until next summer to try out our new vacation home.

We stayed in 4 resorts this summer while at WDW. We had fun trying different resorts but we aren't going to do that again for awhile or maybe we will never have the need to. :)

I wish DVC would have on line reservations. I, too, am so used to making my ressies on line. What! I have to talk to someone. :)

Thanks for all the welcome homes!

Our biggest problem now is deciding when and where to go - every time I go through the member book I find something else I want to do RIGHT NOW!!!

Welcome home!
We did the resort switch this last trip TWICE. We stayed at the Poly between our BWV and VWL stays to save points for our cruise next year. The Poly, my old favorite, really suffered in comparison, although to be fair the building we were in is scheduled for rehab. But between two 2BR villas it didn't seem the same!
All our luggage stuff was fine, including stuff that needed refrigeration. That said, I think after this next trip we will be back to one year at VWL and the next at BWV, etc. I made sure we had enough points for a week, including weekends, with banking and borrowing.
