Hi! I just returned from our 1st WDW trip on Monday. While there I bought into AK so I sit and wait for closing just looking at my books dreaming of our next trip!

A question I have (and I'd call DVC but they are closed now :scared1: ) is how long will it take for a close on a direct buy? I have seen people comment on the resales taking 60 days start to finish but it that the same with direct? Our UY is September and so we have to bank by April (we got points for 2011 and will get more in 2012). I'm thinking of booking our first trip for either Dec or Jan both of which I could now but I have to wait for close!!!! If I bank them "now" that is fine, right, because the trip occurs in Dec or Jan (UY 2012) and the points would come off then right, not when I book them in 2011.

Shoot, another question. So if we got 160 pts, bank the 2011 to use in 2012, then we'd be at 320 for UY 2012. If we go on a trip in Jan 2013 but don't use all that original 160 we banked from 2011, will we only be able to bank the 160 for UY 2012 and lose the remaining that we had banked from 2011 if we don't go on another trip until Oct 2013? ARGH!!!!

Thanks for the help. I did try reading posts before posting I'm just not thinking I'm finding my answer so I thought I'd ask. SOOOO ready to book!!! HURRY UP!!!!

For a direct purchase, closing is just a formality. If you bought on property, you are member immediately and should be able to book reservations now.

Buying direct you will become a member as soon as you close. When you close your Guide can help set up your reservations and help you bank your points. Your UY is always Sept. of every year. If you bank points they can expire if not used in correct time frame. We own at Ak and just love it, hope you do too.

Use the banked points first and bank any unused current points. Use those banked points first the next year.

thanks everyone. So let me see if I have this right?

1. I can call my guide and ask to bank now, leaving me with 320 for 2012 UY right?

2. Anything I don't use in UY 2012, I can bank for UY 2013, even the ones that may be left over from 2011 UY that I bank and don't use in Jan?

3. Which is it, upon closing or immediately that I'm a member when I buy direct? I can try calling her this weekend (we saw her on the weekend so I know she's there sometimes at least). How long is it until closing when you buy direct?

BTW, where do I get all the cute sig things, google?

1. You should be able to call MS tomorrow to bank the points, which will give you 320 for UY 2012, 160 banked + 160 current. Guides can make a booking for you but I'm not sure if they can bank for you. On your contract should be your membership number for MS to find you in the system.

2. 160 of those points (the banked ones) need to be used during your 2012 UY or they will expire on August 31, 2013. The other 160 can be used during your 2012 UY (your January trip) or you can bank them into your 2013 UY.

3. When you buy direct, you're immediately a member. At least I was. We booked within a day or two of purchasing, since we had already had a trip planned which we switched from staying off-site to our villa. :tink: We also paid the whole thing off right away though, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference if one is financing.

Cute sig things .... find someone on this board with a picture you like. Download it to your comp, then upload it into one of your photo accounts (I keep mine in my Picasa), then add it as a picture into your sig.:thumbsup2

And :welcome:HOME!

The online system is set up (or so I was told by MS) that the system will ALWAYS use your banked points first, and then use the current years, and if those run out, you have to authorize it to borrow points. Our contract we bought came with 94 banked, but it wasn't clear on the online system what points were used. I called MS and they told me my banked points were used first and the 40 left were 2012 points. It wasn't showing them as bankable online, and that's because we are not in June yet (my UY). In June it will show those points as bankable. (Well, hopefully not if our wait list comes through :good vibes)

If you have already signed with MA- which they normally do while you are there you can immediately books stays. When we walked out of MA from signing our paperwork we already had our first 3 stays booked.

Your guide is your salesperson. You call your guide if you want to purchase more points. You do not call your guide to book a stay. From this point forward, you call Member Services to bank points and book rooms. They are open 7 days a week, 9am - 5:30pm. Since you purchased directly from Disney, you can call MS today to bank your points and make a reservation. You do not have to wait until you close, that only applies to people who purchase on the resale market.

You can also bank points online and book online once you set up your account at dvcmember.com. Since you are new to DVC, I would recommend that you call Member Services.

The one time when your guide would book a room for you is if you are a direct purchaser and are having difficulty booking something on your very first stay. Guides can sometimes get something for you (usually from unsold inventory) even if Member Services is showing no availability anywhere. As i said, this is only available on your first booking. But start with Member Services first since they are available 9am - 5:30pm every day.

Welcome home!

When we bought and added on points via Disney, we made reservations within 24 hours so you should be in the system with the ability to book!

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!
