How would I go about booking a cruise which would require that I use my points for the current year and then borrow points for the following year and then either pay the balance or rent more points from some very Nice DVC members who find themselves with some left over points for June of 2006? :cheer2: I feel lost in the land of point charts!!!

We used points a few years back for the 4 night cruise (me, husband and 8 yr old son). We used all our points, plus had to borrow at least half of our next years points. We suffered withdrawl after that until we got more points. We wound up buying more points.

Using points is an expensive way to cruise. You can get a better deal by paying cash all the way. Some people rent out their points to others and use the proceeds to pay for their cruise.

If you really want to do points, you have to use points to pay for at least the first person. You can't use points for a partial reservation. Plus DVC prices can be a bit higher than regular cash costs. You can't get a points reservation from DVC and cash reservation from DCL and link them.

We'd like to do it again, but we would only use points if we had to.

I rented points last year to pay for our cruise. Good thing I did. DH is changing jobs. We didn't know what his vacation time would be. I ended up canceling the cruise. If I had used points it would have been horrible. I have found renting points to be quick and easy. Much better than the hassle of canceling a cruise on points.
