New MB's???

I think this is awesome! The bands can get uncomfortable and this opens up a whole world of wearable possibilities.

From a person who hasn't worn MB before so take it with a grain of salt but this "puck" style looks bulky, boring and heavy (lop-sided weight just assuming the "puck" is most of the device's weight) especially in comparison to the current MB design.

I can def. understand where the current MB design could be uncomfortable for some though but I'm not sold on liking the "puck" style if it is actually utilized.

I can't see it being heavy. The other two sure.

I believe what we are seeing is more of a prototype rather than any final design. Its probably a guarantee that disney has been designing and testing alternatives for a while now.

A prototype makes sense.

That would be a main concern for me-the weight of it though the other two are more or less an aesthetic concern. Call me geeky but I was kinda excited to DIY customization on my MB for my Sep 2017 trip so if this new type of thing is out by that trip I don't know if the material and look of it would allow for the same type of customization people currently do on MB (i.e decals, nail polish, glitter, permanent markers, stickers, etc).

You can already reuse the old ones as many times as you want as is...

The thing I have never liked about these are how wasteful they are...they create business for a sweatshop that I frankly don't want to encourage...but that's just me

My thoughts exactly. I see this being useful for people who don't want to wear anything around their wrist. Maybe attach it to their bag (which they can currently do), or even a pair of keys. I'm thinking this just opens up the possibility of many, many, more accessories.

Even if the "puck" remains the same size, it could easily be housed in bands that are narrower than the current bands, such that the puck is the only point where it's that wide. And I'm SURE that Disney will be making customized items to house the puck - bracelets/bangles, lanyards, and I'm sure some other items that I'm not creative enough to think of. :D

I think far more of these will be lost/misplaced/put away causing backups in ride loading with this new idea than the old bands.

One of the good things about the bands is that they by and large didn't go anywhere and were easily accessible.

I'm
Sure this is to sell swag...and boy is that tiresome.

And for a "fee" it can be replaced.
I can also see a lot of people just putting it in their pockets because they do not want to wear a band and then when they get to the scanner, this will be the time they start looking for it:( Just like so many parents that wait until they are right in front of the bus doors to fold their strollers.
But on the business side it should bring in more revenue and, we all know, that is really all that matters.

I've always thought it was silly that they sent new MBs every trip and if you are doing a split stay multiple ones. It's nice now that you can refuse them, but you would think a company with as much computer tech available to them, could figure out a way to make a database that tells them if you already have an active band. Oh wait, they have that don't they in MDE. I realize people do tend to misplace old ones, I know I have at least 4 that I have no clue where they are, but maybe instead of offering a new one, let people request a new one. If you already have one, you know you need one so in the on line spam you get daily when you book a resort, just put a request a MB spot. Most people aren't going to take the extra step to do it, thus cutting down on the postage and waste of sending new ones every time. Simple solution, not very elegant but simple. I was in the first testing groups for MBs and I've always liked them and don't have any problems wearing them but I always have a watch on so having something on my wrist doesn't bother me.

I like this as it just gives more possibilities for different types of bands (even from third party providers) or straps for bags or whatever ... maybe even way to incorporate it into an Apple Watch or something

Maybe even have straps that can hold more than one so that a parent can have their kids on as well

Perhaps the scale is off, but those pucks just look far too big. My boyfriend has the fitbit shown and I have an apple watch, both look much smaller than that. I for one think the apple watch should be thinner in it's next iteration. Honestly nothing really beats a card for functionality if you don't like wristbands. This just seems like making something for the sake of making it.

...yep...like lemmings to the pig's trough for slaughter

I'd love it if they'd incorporate this into my Apple Watch.

Sales of apple watches fell off the cliff...

They won't be around for long. Perhaps they incorporate this stuff into iOS at some point...but I don't see Disney making much effort or spending one dime to do it.

A few years ago it looked like Apple Pay was going to be the credit card of the future...now they have lost a lot of market share and can't seem to make anything new to keep business...so that's not a big of a deal now.

That is very true but for me personally I wanted to do my own customization. Depending on the material of the band that may not be possible. The current MB design and material allows for tons of your own customization (Pinterest, blogs, even threads here on the DIS discuss how you can customized your MB).

Wearables in general don't sell as well as their partner the smart phone. When I'm out I see apple watches and fitbits all over. I don't think they are going anywhere I just think nobody knows how to perfect them to the point people will really go crazy for them. Come on Bob wears an Apple Watch with a Mickey face ;) (so do I)

I'd use Apple Pay if my bank was part of the program but it isn't.

I used to wear a Fitbit and an Apple Watch but then my Fitbit took a dive. I know you'll think I'm crazy but I wore an Apple Watch magicband and Fitbit in January at Disney.

Let's just say I like my tech toys...
