New MB's???

This company uses energy to spin you around and air condition buildings with no walls when its 100 degrees for 6 months, yet they "waste" money on extra magic bands (and every other item they sell by the way), yea OK.

http://www.magicbandcollectors.com/ has an article about possibly the next generation of MBs. To where the center mickey head will be interchangeable with wrist straps. This makes sense where they would not have to keep sending new MBs with chips in them all the time. But who knows? What about the battery life etc. I will just wait and see:)
My son cut half of the strap from his magic band one year. He used it as a FOB so he didn't have to wear it. Not everyone likes something around their wrist. So this will be good for others like him.

A redesign of something that is simplistic enough and works...and sending new ones everytime the large numbers of recurring visitors goes...
...is wasteful.

Tough one to fight here, J...

You can refuse them (or not buy more as people love to do), but still minor in the overall scheme of waste involved. And they are redesigning them-as they do every souvenir.

I understand that...but they need to do a better job of encouraging reuse...

And the redesign is strictly for profit. That ok..they are selling stuff. But there's no need to defend it. Just say nothing. No "argument" has to be rolled out.

It is some good old fashioned consumer excess.
Like the "Disney vault" dating back to VHS. Thankfully that's ending soon.

Ok I was confused by the article as they said these don't have chips? I kind of like wristbands and bracelets in general so I never had a problem with these but I don't see how much use I'm going to get out of a hockey puck sized thing in my pocket at all times. Personally in the parks I would find it much easier to wear the band instead of reach into my pocket each time but whatever. I know I'm in that super minority that likes the bands

You are correct, it is wasteful, its ALL consumer excess and well within the consumers rights to "want" a different band (and/or avoid dead batteries by the way, and WDW to do its best to make things run smooth with the bands), but that goes for almost everything down there IMO (see Mickey ears)-but esp energy wasting.

I will vote for others to refuse new bands (if they have good working ones with known good batteries and is not giving them any issues) and to not purchase a new design going forward, but also to decide to do what they want. And also improve them further, would love to just have it on my phone.

I do wonder how many rolls of paper and ink they used to print/waste with FP.

I would guess you are far from alone. I agree-however I would sacrifice it if it worked on my phone, otherwise no way I need another thing bouncing around and able to loose as well, or a paper stub.

However, it may just become another "option" for the consumer to "decide" what they want to spend "their" money on.

If you are equating 15 years of fastpasses to be more wasteful than 5 years of rubber/plastic/radiochip (hint: all those things are really bad environmentally to manufacture) mass produced bands by sweatshop labor...you got another thing coming...

I get it...didn't like fastpass...the jury rest on that one.

I do wonder why though? What was prohibiting you from getting a fastpass at 9:30 for big thunder and then waiting for splash for 15 minutes?

That's not my thing either...I didn't do it much...but I'm not personally offended by it.

Fastpass was an improvement on the old system...fastpass + is hit or miss. Just how I've seen it play out.

You could just sayin nothing. No "argument" has to be rolled out.

But thanks for finally admitting the real reason "this" is suddenly so wasteful to you.

By the way, my plane didn't land until noon, so....Or I hopped from DHS that day, was at the beach, was at US/IOA. someone was sick, or too tired.

I love the bands, too, and I almost never wear bracelets/watches/wristbands otherwise. It's just so much easier to not have to dig through my purse for anything.

To be honest LOL, I know we disagree on a lot of things-but it's usually just different angles of approach, no harm no foul IMO.

EX: I would even prefer the band to be used with the old FP system. Yes everyone walks in the park before they are all gone, turns around and go back to bed (happened countless times at IG) then I alone walk all the way to TT with the bands, scan them and they now have the return time on them.

That alone is an improvement IMO. And yes it can open the room door etc as well.

If they could make it so we could have options of wear like wrist straps or necklace or keychain etc that would be cool! As a disabled person it would be better around my neck. But I like the MB more than the getting out of the ticket. I just have an issue holding up my wrist to the door of the room.

You need options, they should provide as many as possible IMO.

It ok to disagree...as you said.

Here's another one...I dislike the bands strictly for what I said: wasteful, Eco unfriendly products made in China...

It ends there. Has nothing to do with fastpass...

I'm not a fan of schedule down to the minute...it's tacky...and even less so of tiered rides and reducing table availability...both embarassing...
But it ends there. Not tied to the bands.

Ok...book an earlier flight. I can see where it's advantageous to go off property and use the prebooked later in the day...I get that.

If you park hop in Disney...you're screwed under both systems...you either skip the prime rides in the first park or pick over leftover scraps later in the day using fastpass. Potato/potato

True, I would use it if it was on my phone but then again I don't want to use my phone for everything and having the band may make me feel more like I'm on vacation than just a phone app

I don't want any more reason to drop my phone than I already do. Phones are expensive...

Plus battery drain. The awful wifi and signal strength and the app burn the batteries up

Where do you see it's going to be the size of a hockey puck? The size of the puck itself appears to be around the same size as the "bump" in the middle of the current magic bands, where the Mickey head is. Think like the Jawbone Up Move:
