New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

OT.
If you have an 8 am PPO reservation, you are usually allowed in at 7:45, yes? That would still mean you have a couple of minutes before the herd enters. I'll keep my BOG reservation for now.
Yes-7:45 AM "usually".

Also,I don't see any reason why BOG Guests will still not get the first ride(s) of the day on SDMT just ahead of the RD crowd.:)

Yes, I'd imagine it's just as crucial for fantasyland, but hopefully not for tomorrowland.
We have 3 MK days planned and will be rope dropping a different area each time. So yes, I'm thinking maybe only having to do this for the Fantayland morning, which will actually be an EMH morning if all holds so that may affect things, as well. Maybe the other mornings we can browse and be a little less commando...lol.

I like seeing new shows so I'll try and get up early one day on my May solo trip to see the new one. In all my trips I think I've only seen the MK welcome show maybe twice. I like the idea of Main Street opening earlier.

Grab some Starbucks food, meander through the shops, maybe ride a vehicle down Main Street. Sounds relaxing.

Depending on how this works and goes down, I will definitely cancel our BOG and Crystal Palace PPO breakfasts. I'm not going to pay those prices for breakfast in the park if they let everyone else in at the same time. I think this will backfire and a lot of people will cancel their PPO breakfast. Why pay $25 for breakfast to get in early when they let everyone in at 8:00AM now?
Good! You pay $25 for a breakfast to eat. Shocking I know. Let those who are booking and not eating cancel. That way people who do want to eat will. I'm sorry, but PPO breakfasts are not for anything other than a meal. Or they shouldn't be.

It would be different if disney had not almost doubled the price of BOG breakfast over the past year. They did so knowing people were using it as a way in the park early. They might not "advertise" it as more than a meal, but everyone knows it is more than that. You're paying to get in the park early.

Awesome-so the Main Street Vehicles will still start when Guests are first allowed in the Park as always-it will just be now at 8:00 or 8:30(assuming they will pick one of those times)?

I love riding the Omni as soon as I enter MK down to the Castle-so much FUN!

Thanks!:)

Probably not. At DL, the vehicles don't start until rope drop.

As much as I liked the Welcome Show and my kids love it, they watch it on YouTube daily! I think lining up on Main Street will be a lot easier. The amount of people waiting before the arches is probably 1/2 if not 1/3 of the space on Main Street. Hopefully they keep the song, too bad the train won't be there.

Much more than that. You can see here the area between the tapstyles and the train station is smaller even than Town Square. There's really lots of space between the train station and the hub.

No. They did it because they decided it's a destination breakfast. People want to eat at BOG and are willing to pay for it. Frankly, I'm surprised lunch is still affordable.

At destination D there was a hint from bob chapek that they wanted to get that magic back that was lost a little with security. I wonder if this is phase 1 of that and phase 2 is moving the security elsewhere if it works out.

I also wonder if this might be related to that rumor/practice for a new seasonal show I heard in dec and it's really this show.

I don't want to stir the pot or create an argument or anything like that, for all of you that have known me, either personally or on here know that I am not about that. But a pre park opening meal reservation gives you a meal, a seat at the table of the different restaurants. It is not and was never sold as a way to get fairly empty pictures of the park. I understand the frustration, I really do, but you should never expect anything more than what is being sold.
You are right.

Everyone doesn't know that. The people who visit Disney websites like the DIS know it but that is a small percentage of the visitors to Disney World.

Disney parks blog just posted about this
Could someone link it here, I'm out of the house, thanks

For those that know me, I too am definitely not about the conflict - and have certainly benefitted from your wisdom many times, yulilin3! However, although it's a small thing, they do advertise it as a perk for some of the tours. I'm booked with my sisters for the "MK to Marceline" tour in April, and the pre-park opening is advertised as a perk of the tour:

"You'll also enjoy the unique opportunity to enter Magic Kingdom park before it opens to the general public and take advantage of first-rate photo ops along USA to Main Street, U.S.A."

Now, knowing that we were going Easter week, we had already figured the MK would be opening early and therefore that perk was going to be unavailable, but if we were going a different week, it would definitely held appeal for us. Perhaps I shall need to alert them that they will need to edit!

In a general sense, I am in the mixed feelings boat as others have expressed. Love the Welcome Show/train and don't think it can have the same "feel" as a castle stage show, but would enjoy the time on Main Street more than waiting outside, especially as I always wish I devoted more time there. Plus, I always enjoy a positive reframe such as providing opportunities to spend my money as "enhancing the guest experience"!

I would agree if they raised all the meal prices, but they didn't. They doubled breakfast and have left lunch and dinner relatively alone.

We will have to respectfully agree to disagree on this point.

I was strictly speaking of restaurants not special tours. If it's advertised as a perk they should honor that

Since when is dinner affordable at BOG? It seems to me lunch is the odd duck right now there.

I'm all for this. This is how Magic Kingdom use to open prior to 9/11. Main Street U.S.A always opened 30 to 45 minutes prior to park opening time. This allowed for less congestion and you could line up in the hub for which land you wanted to head first, or just look through the shops until the park officially opened. It's about time they return to the old way of doing things.

I didn't know that! The first time I took my family was in 2009 and I think it was how it is now, and before that I hadn't been since the '70's. Interesting...

I was just double checking and the railroad is under refurb starting on the 9th and the welcome show is still on the schedule at the same time, 8:40am. So that should be the time for the new show at the castle stage.
In theory... this also affects BOG PPO opening guests because it is going to take less time to walk from the castle than the train station after the show.
