I'm changing jobs. I'll still be with the same company, but my role is changing. In my old role, Business Data Manager, I was managing our business intelligence / data warehouse team. My new role, Business Data Advisor, I will no longer be managing a team. Now my focus will be more architectural, setting direction on how we need to manage our data.

It's a change that I'm very excited about. While I had a really great team, I was never all that excited by having a management role. I get more of a thrill focusing on technical and functional problems rather than on leading a team. I'm going from a job that I enjoyed to one that I absolutely love. I'm tremendously excited about work again.

From a career perspective, it's a mixed bag. There really isn't much of a career ladder above this position; it's basically the end of the line for non-managerial roles in IT at our company. It's at the same "pay grade" as my former job. On the other hand, it's something that I'll enjoy much more and probably be much better at. It also gives me a broader perspective and more influence across the organization. It's going to be a really difficult job, but it will be a fun challenge.

What does this have to do with Disney Photography? I don't know. I guess my job is how I pay for my camera gear and my trips to WDW. So there, it isn't off topic.;)

Congratulations! It's nice to have some excitement injected into your work when you've been on the job for a while. :goodvibes

Not much advancement after this? One word for you Mark....Consultant.:thumbsup2

Through your kind words of advice, and your active participation on the Photography Board you have made many DisFriends. Therefore, it is only natural that you want to share the good news with your friends. I don't think that is so off-topic.

Congratulations on the new job. Best of luck :wizard: wiith all of you assignments.

Hey small world. I'm a Web Developer by trade with an extremely heavy emphasis on data storage and manipulation. My company is ramping up our Business Intelligence area - we have two consultants in right now and I'll be working with them with the intention of eventually replacing one (or more) of them.

I'm going to specialize more in ETL than Analysis so we're a balanced pair. Good luck in your new position!

Congrats and good luck! Sounds like we do (or did) basically the same kind of work. I also manage a data warehouse/BI team. Like you, I'm more into the technical, hands-on stuff and am still developing a feel for the managerial role. It was the opposite for me though, as I was limited in my previous technical role, so I made the jump to management. Your new role sounds really great. Enjoy it!

Congrats, sounds like fun! I myself am a senior DBA for a municipality in the midwest.

Interesting how many data geeks we have on here...

Enjoy the new gig! :woohoo:

Congratulations!:cheer2:

Change is sometimes good!!!:thumbsup2
