According to today's Detroit Free Press (freep.com), the Northwest Airlines flight attendants are now reconsidering their walkouts because of the foiled terrorist plot we all learned of yesterday.
It says they are "weighing their options", but realize "there is a security issue in the country", and are focusing on that.
:confused3 I guess we will all find out what will happen on August 15.

Well that would be nice of them. I still don't get the point of forcing your employer out of business. How do you win there?

The MSP media is saying that there will be no strike at this time, or atleast untill the threat level is taken down a notch. So atleast for now you don't need to worry about flying NWA and being stranded by CHAOS.
And Disneymom I'm with you, as I said in another NWA thread what would they rather have, a job or be stuborn and out of work.

In today's (8/12) Detroit Free Press it is reported that the flight attendants are now giving August 25 as their new strike deadline. This is so travelers will adjust to the new rules, they say. :confused3
Hopefully this will buy enough time to get back to some solid negotiations.
I can't imagine that, given what has happened this week, it will help their cause if they do decide to strike. Customers not only don't want to be inconvenienced over a strike, they want to be safe when they do fly and will take their business to airline that isn't in trouble--or will decide it's not worth the hassle or risk and drive to their destination instead.
The flight attendants are in a tough spot, no doubt about it and I do feel bad for the cuts they might have to take. But they also need to realize there is no such thing as customer loyalty anymore, and once scorned...well, customers have LONG memories and will choose any other airline over the one that has given them problems.
I truly hope things will work out, for the flight attendants, the airline and the customers.

If they do go on strike, what happens to passengers holding tickets? Will NWA get them on other flights?

NWA says they will help you find another flight.
I'm going to LAS in September for work and porposely did not pick NWA because of the FA's. I would like to use them in December when I go to the world but we'll see.

I fly to Pensacola out of SE mn on NW with two connections Should be interesting.
What next, hurricane?

herc.

I am sure wishing I hadn't either. When we did book these tickets for Sept, the FA had supposedly settled their contract and everything seemed to be moving forward. What I have heard from my BIL who is a pilot for another airline is that rumor in the industry has it that NWA has flight attendants standing by to step in on short call for flights where FAs don't show up. But they can't have them in EVERY city NWA flies to and wouldn't you think if others in the industry have heard these rumors that the FA on NWA already know about it?

Ugh. Should have sacrificed that nonstop flight for the security of flying with someone else!

Im just shocked at all of this. These terrorists. Are simply utterly disgusting.

:woohoo: Ok, so I have to do a quick happy dance because we are leaving on 8/20 with NWA. We were gone since Thurs and came home to read of the news in the paper. We've flown three times this year with airlines with pilots or flight attendant strikes looming right at the exact week we planned to travel. Had I known about the strike possibillity, I would have never booked, but hind sight is 20/20. Don't mean to brag, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about this for my 30th b-day trip. But the good thing is that it means they will have more time for negotiations...hopefully.

Kjs1967, good for you! :thumbsup2 It is your birthday trip:cake: , after all, so I'm hoping you have smooth sailing for the duration of your trip!
Keep your fingers crossed for the rest of us. Hopefully a compromise can be made with the airline and flight attendants very soon. Time will tell...in the meantime, my family is going to have to come up with a Plan B if they strike and we find we cannot be accomodated on another airline the day we need to leave. I REALLY don't want to drive to FL from Michigan!! :drive: But we'll do what we have to do...

Blah! We are flying NW on Aug.27. It makes me a bit nervous, but I guess no sense in stressing out over it now. I guess alot can happen in 2 weeks. :confused3
