New Info about Splash Mountain foot stuck incident

I live in Indiana and a couple years ago a lady died on a local roller coaster. The park(Holiday World) shut the ride down until the investigation was finished. Come to find out she was an "air catcher" which is someone who stands up on the coaster for an extra thrill. She fell and DW thinks the family is still suing...love the entire legal process. Hope to see you all there in September. :smooth:

Just a point, but when we were at disney last so many of the rides stopped, which we thought was because of something wrong with the ride or people with disabilities getting on, but now i wonder if its due to people doing things they shouldn't on rides. If people want to do stupid things they should do it at home. Perhaps disney should impose a penalty on these people as it affects others enjoyment of the rides.

Perhaps this will encourage some people to think of their responsibilities aswell as their rights.

A girl from our homeschool group has a boyfriend who works splash mountaint. It is stopped frequently for people doing what they should NOT be doing.

My old CP roomate worked at Splash Mountain and she frequently told of incidents of people misbehaving on the attraction.

I worked in parking and you'd be amazed at what people did on the parking lot trams. Climbing over seats, standing up, trying to jump on and worse yet off, hanging off the sides. It is a long standing joke that people forget to pack their brains when they go on vacation.

While riding Splash a few years ago, it stopped and a lady and child panicked and got out of their boat somewhere ahead of me. I talked her into climbing into my boat and finishing the ride but she was a mess. She kept saying it was her DD who was scared but I think it was more her because the little girl seemed fine except for mom scaring her.
This happened right after 9/11. I think she was just scared of her shadow at that point in time.
People do crazy things on rides.
And there are always people wanting something for nothing--esp. from a big co. like Disney.

To the OP of this thread...you may want to be careful what you say about your daughter's friend being there. Disney may not want any of this information "given out" and they watch these boards like a HAWK. He could unknowingly get into trouble.

Not trying to flame or be snarky :)

I was thinking that myself. I would imagine, in cases like this, CMs are not supposed to talk about these events because they could unknowingly say something that could backfire on Disney. I would hate to see someone get into trouble for this or possibly lose their job.

I'm glad the young girl is doing better. I read through the threads and haven't posted yet. It sort of has been like following a soap opera. I'm a teacher and I see teenagers do incredibly stupid things all the time, with parents shaking their heads and saying "oh no, not my child. He/she would never do that." Teenagers, even the best of them, will often act on impulse and get caught up in the moment. They think they are invulnerable. Even the most trustworthy kids so ridiculous things. If this was the case, I hope a lesson was learned. If this is not the case, perhaps the OP made too much of a big deal over getting Disney to do something before there was an investigation. We live in a suing society and backs go up when the word "Lawyer" is mentioned. I found myself feeling sorry for his family. They were probably really upset and the wound was kept open. I am so glad that things finally calmed down and they were able to get back to the parks and salvage their vacation.

I seem to believe what the original OP had said about her daughter. I remember when DH and I rode Splash last year and were seated in the front, I remember an indentation of some sort where your foot could get lodged. Also, with three kids in the same family I'm sure if one of them was lying it'd be pretty obvious by now. At least I know if my parents were throwing around the word lawyer I'd confess or rat out my sister.

Mine was the first daughter to be hurt on splash.

Apparently there are 2 injuries that i read now. Mine and another who lost a toenail.

My daughter did not nor did she admit to anyone to standing on this ride....period.

if you want to bash me, so be it. You were all not there. I am just reporting what happened. if you no longer want to know, i will leave these boards i have been a part of forever.

Do not jump to conclusions or make stuff up if you dont know. you can contact me directly if you want to know anything about it.

Sure hope you don't leave - the DIS is a great place!

Can you post a link to the other incident? And also - you were not there either were you? Of course unless you were in the log too I don't see how it would make much difference....

I don't mean to "bash" but you did state in a post I quoted earlier that you expected/wanted to be comped a room prehaps an entire vacation....do you still feel the same? Is that what it would take for WDW to "make it up to you"?

I did not see where the other incident was posted, but several people have posted the same thing that cleo posted:

The person who posted about losing a toenail said it happend 3 years ago at Typhoon Lagoon. They also said it was an accident, not something Disney caused. Just wanted to clarify that in case some who did not read it think it happened recently on Splash Mountain.

My wife is now thrilled that the loss of her toe nail at TYPHOON LAGOON THREE YEARS AGO has blown up into something completely else :lmao:

Sometimes I really love the internet :thumbsup2

I heard that she really lost the toe nail when she was bitten by a shark at TL. ;)

LOL...thats the great thing about the internet.

I would say though that if I waited in a long line, and was just about at the front and they stopped the ride because someone was fooling around and got hurt (I am not referring to this incident in specific) I would not be too happy about it. Maybe I should sue the person engaing in the horseplay for ruining my experience....hmmm come to think of it do you think Disney could comp my trip too now??

NO the toenail was at TL and the person KEEPS teeling you that. But you want to tell it your way.

You were not there so you do not know if she stood up. They may have a video of this and your stepdaughter maybe trying not to get into more trouble. Teens do that.

You are not reporting what happened. It is all hearsay and nothing more. Your DSD, 2DS and WDW SM CMs were there. Only they can retell the story.

YAGE :cheer2:

The only conclusion I am getting is you want to be comped BIG by Disney.

It is amazing that everyone feels the need to bash the victim. It is total hearsay nothing more than gossip. your daughters roomate.....comeon! supposedly the victim said to your daughter's roomate to your daughter to you now to the dis boards. That is 5th generation info at the least!

Do ya'll remember the game rumor? Someone says something and it goes down the line and ends up being something different. That could be what happened with this thread...

To those who have supported or shown compassion to orignal OP-good for you.

To those who are just plain mean, what goes around sometimes comes back to bite you in the a_ _.

This board is supposed to be about sharing and helping not about being sanctimonious.

The cameras were on and IF the OP's stepdaughter was standing it will show. Until then, even the poster's daughter's roommate was not an eyewitness, so all the speculation is moot.

I wonder what people would be saying had this happened @ Universal,
Sea World, Cedar Point,.....? Just a thought.

Best wishes to all. pixiedust: :grouphug:

So sorry about your DSD. I hope she is doing better.

Can you please tell us what board what you read that on?

We are concerned because if it really is a "design flaw" it should be taken care of. We do not want something this happening to other guests.

I did an advanced thread search using Splash Mountain+ injured on the theme
park board and the community board and only came up with one other thread besides the three about your DSD which were recently posted. Someone hit their head on Splash Mountain in this thread but no mention of losing a toenail or a foot injury other than the OP's 14 year old step daughter.
Here is the other thread:

Here is a thread about theme park injuries (all over the country not just Disney) that were documented.

I don't think people are being "mean", just curious...if you read the step father original posts in the locked thread it seems as though he expects WDW to "pay".

And as far as "rumors" - the only ones who know the absolute truth are the ones in the flume and any CM's who saw it or if it was "taped"....even the step father may not know the entire truth.

Not trying to defend WDW but they did get paramedics there...they did offer the use of a wheelchair what more do they want?

And you get more flies with honey...I can only speculate, but if the step father had the mindset of wanting a comped room when asking for something to be done......well, you get the idea.

I think folks may be asking so many questions about how this happened so they may be better educated and avoid injury themselves. It isn't necessarily to question the validity of the OPs claims.

I went back to work part time for a national photographer. It is company policy not to admit guilt or place blame but to make sure the proper medical attention is sought and the bills directed to corporate. The client doesn't have to pay out of pocket for injuries sustained no matter who is at fault. Even if it were negligence on the parents part (say if a child was injured). If it happens in our studio we pay med expenses. Also it is company policy that the manager or the photographer calls and follows up on the injured at least once (more is encouraged). None of this admits guilt but is just the right thing to do. Disney should pay the bills get them appropriate accomodations to help the child enjoy the rest of the trip and check up on the family. It is the "right" thing to do whether it is a design flaw or a teen acting foolishly.

I could not agree with you more. I don't think people were being "mean". Questioning is something that should not be considered "mean" and people should not keep posting that those that merely questioned the OP are "mean", that's being narrow minded..

Even those who questioned the OP's story, many began by saying that they were sorry his DD got hurt and this was a terrible thing to happen, and I can speak for myself when I say that I meant that.

However, I think people's interest perked because there seemed to be something unexplained or missing from the story the OP told. Something did not add up and people wanted to know more. Then when the OP posts began focusing mainly on contacting papers and wondering if he should hire a lawyer, and stating that he should be comped maybe another vacation, well that threw up a red flag to many Dis'ers
