New Incentives

We're purchasing 250 pts (AKV). Our guide just emailed today, that we can get $15 off per point or 4 day cruise or if we go up to 270 pts, we can get the 7 day cruise. We can only pick one incentive. It seems that some are being offered the 7 day cruise with less points being purchased, but it seems like that offer is for BLT (from what's been posted here) :confused3

I've been up, since 3:30 am, so I haven't had a chance to figure out which is the better deal (money off or cruise for a family of 3).

Always keep in mind that some people are quoting for current member add on's and other's for new members. DVC does different incentives for each group. The cruise incentive is the same for all the current resorts - BLT/AKV/VGC/SSR. The amount off per point if you don't do the cruise varies between the resorts.

Wow - I thought they have had fantastic incentives for VGC the past few months??? How can it be a stepchild?

They did? I think I missed them..I thought as good as it got was 100 something per point? Kidding about the stepchild..it seems like no one ever thinks of VGC when they report on things...:)

VGC was the best price of all. Down to $89/pt and maybe even a dollar or two lower with a webcast. It still seems the best with anything more than 50 pts at $97/pt.

You're right though - it doesn't get talked about much.

Yep. I went back and checked and there are different incentives for current and new members (I'm a newbie). Anyway, after pricing out the 4 night cruise for our family, during the months we would be able to go, it topped out, at about $2600 (3 adults- ds will be 12). But, the additonal payments on our loan would be much more than this. We, actually, save by not taking the cruise; so, we're taking the $15 off :)

Are these incentives fairly typical for this time of year? We were ready to buy AKV last month at $112/pt with a discount of $15 making the overall price $97/pt. With all the rumors lately, I asked DH to wait until after the 7th and now the price for AKV is $112/pt with a $10 discount. I'm really bummed that because I waited, the price has gone up $5 a point!

I've signed up for the webcast but I'm afraid prices are just going to jump again. We're not interested in cruises or anything like that; just getting the best possible price per point. We have been told that incentives are best in te spring...

Are you talking about for existing members, or for new members? Last I heard about VGC it was...

  • Last Years Points and a 15$ Per Point Discount
Or..
  • A 2011 Cruise for 4

No clue what the webcast was going to offer upcoming though. I'm looking at buying into VGC soon and am looking forward to finally putting down a deposit. Is it just me, or would making the information about the latest promotion more accessible be a lot nicer for the consumer?

I totally agree! I would think that it'd be good for sales for DVC, and save a lot of time for guides also. Of course, then they wouldn't be able to "encourage" your purchase :goodvibes

aaakkk!! My guide was out of the office today...

Has anyone gotten clarity on the statement on dvcnews about IF you take the cruise incentive and IF you finance that your down payment plus monthly payments have to equal 30% before you can book your cruise.

Is that 30% of the cruise price or 30% of the add on price?

Still trying to get my arms around which works better for us, $$ off vs. cruise, since we have been wanting to try Disney cruising...hmmm

I'm pretty sure it's 30% of the add-on price. Disney does this to guarantee they receive the money for the cruise, just in case someone defaults on the loan.

NOTE: the additional percent down should only apply if you select the cruise incentive.

I was responding the the comment about VGC not having good incentives before. Unfortunately the $89 I quoted was a previous incentive price. The $15 discount or cruise is the current one.

The way it was explained to me is that you need to have paid off the amount equal to the cost of the cruise. Depending on the number of points you are buying that % could vary. Essentially Disney does not want to have people finance, go on a cruise and then let the timeshare revert back to them.

I wouldn't worry too much about the prices jumping before the webcast. Incentives usually last for several weeks before changing. What you ran into was the reason why many people will get the process started prior to an announcement of incentive changes and then they can decide if they want to change to the new offer or stay with the old. The webcast ought to improve on the incentives but some have been better than others and the improvements may be in the form of RCI stays or something else. Good luck to you!

That is pretty good actually...I missed that..I only need about 70 points, so the incentives are pretty nothing..I don't know..just in a tizzy..:)
Actually..the 97 + extra years points would have been nice, but isn't that one gone as of 1 March? I'm holding out for the webcast and seeing what they offer. I don't think I care about a cruise unless it departs from LA and as far as I can see they don't offer short cruises from that port. I wish they'd do a dollar off/AP combo special..I'd probably bite at that.

with the new Disneyland/Disneyworld premier pass. DVC is looking very attractive now. I can't wait to buy this pass and still in shock they actually announced it today!

WOW!! Can one cross our fingers for DVC discount on this one?
We are actually doing both parks this year, so it'll be perfect for us. Just not for $700 tho. That's a bit steep... :scared1:

Well shoot... no plan for DVC discount... :(

What's your UY? That wasn't really a special since they have always given current year points with your purchase and that's all this was. So if you have an Apr or later UY you will still get those so called "extra" points.

Actually - let me rephrase that for VGC. If you have a June or later UY you will get the 2009 points. The 2009 points never existed in the Feb/Mar/Apr UY's. and even with the "special" you mentioned you couldn't get them.

I think Disney should give all DVCers free upgrade to the new "Premier Annual Passport", pay for a WDW AP and get the DLR AP part free. That way more people will be willing to travel to both coasts for their DVC vacations, and encourage people to buy into VGC.

I have March, so I never got my current year points when I bought.maybe explaining how in the hole I am.. :) Oh..I didn't know that..I thought that special would have given me the 'extra' points..not so upset I missed it now.
