New Incentive???

I was on the phone today finalizing my paperwork, just joined on Sunday! My guide said that DVC has extended the promo for another week, as people are still calling trying to get the promo.

We will have to wait another week to see what it wil be!

Oh good! My friend was calling frantically trying to get it. :thumbsup2

Now all these little extensions are making me think that there might NOT be a promo after this one for a while! Why else would they keep extending by a week here and there. You think they would just roll over to the next promo and be done with it.

Just guessing.

BTW: CONGRATS ON JOINING - ToodlesRN! :)

Well I think it might be for real this time.It went from an extra 2 weeks and now an extra week so nowhere to go after that unless they say another 4 days:lmao:

Boy, Disney is sounding more and more like the guys who have the going out of business sale banner up all year long. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

They sure have lost their credibility.

I don't think it has anything to do with credibility. They are savvy marketers. They are probably crunching the numbers and thinking that this is the optimum solution (give a bigger discount now but then jack up prices later...). I assure you they are not pulling these discount promo weeks out of their magic hat. My friend works for Disney (not in TSing) and it is the tightest ship ever seen. :) Katherine

When your sales contact, your Guide gives you information, you expect it to be credible. When they tell you that to get this offer you need to buy now. It will not be extended or offered again. Then they extend it twice or worse yet offer a better deal latter. To me this is a lack of credibility.

No guide that I ever heard of gives the pressure to "buy now or it's gone." At least my guide and MS have always responded by saying "we don't know" when I asked them about the promo extending. I spoke to my guide yesterday and asked specifically and she said no one knows for sure until today.

If your guide told you otherwise, and gave you pressure to buy, you need to probably say something to DVC about that. And get a new Guide. I think Disney prides themselves on no pressure sales. Then again if you read the "buy now before it's too late" speech here on the boards, well then you have to realize that we are all guessing.

I can recommend my guide to you (she is at Disneyland) because she is honesst and very straightforward. Just PM me and I will send you her contact info.

I think that they are so good at the psychology of people, that we don't realize the pressure.

At DTD the incentives were only good if you bought on site. At WDW the deal is only good for three days after your tour, on the Disney cruses, the offer is only good while on board, the current incentive is only good until a certain date, then a new date, then a new date. Granted they aren't locking you up in a room until you buy, but I still call it pressure.

You are probably right about the meaningless deadlines (like call in 3 days or else...).

Now I had the perfect experience. I never go on site to buy. I just do a bunch of research here (thanks to everyone who was willing to answer all my questions) and when the time is right, I call up and purchase. No pressure.
When we originally purchased AKV, we thought about it for about a week while we were getting our contract sent to us. Then, we sat on the contract for about 10 more days, mulling over the details. I got no phone calls other than "did you get the fed ex of the contract" from them. When we finally sent it back, we felt good about it. Same with the add on.

To be honest, we bought all of our timeshares sight unseen as I really just can't handle sales people in general. Starwood is terrible with all the stuff they throw at you and the pressure to buy. SO I just call and purchase that way. I can always hang up the phone if I don't like the way a conversation makes me feel! But with DVC, I never had to do that.

I also buy our cars prenegotiated. I guess it's just me. I go to Costo and get the discount and the AAA fleet price, etc once I know what sort of car I want (yes, I do go to test drive it). ANd then boom, we make the call, price all prenegotiated and that's it. :thumbsup2 Helps me keep my sanity! ANd DH too.

Just spoke to my guide. Prices are the same with the same $8 AKV or $10 SSR discount. The big difference is that the developer points are being replaced with a $500 gift card. Not sure what the minimum is for the GC.

Is the $500 gift card available for add-ons or just new contracts?

Do you know the minimum # of points requirement to buy in and get the gift card?

We didn't add-on because we weren't sure we would be able to use the developer's points this coming year so the other incentive might not have benefited us, but this sure would.:yay:

Thanks for any info.
