New IN N OUT near DLR

It can be challenging getting in and out (no pun intended) of the the shopping center it’s located in. Two other locations are near DLR - State College/Ball, and Outlets at Orange. Then former opened a decade ago, the latter late last year. Depending on traffic, a g could be the closest.

For tourists, I recommend the Orange location as the other two are not in aesthetically pleasing areas.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been one built closer to Disneyland. They would make a killing if guests could walk to one from the parks.

The city probably has a deal with McDonalds to not have a similar restaurant near Disney.

Why would the city do that when it would benefit from the sales taxes of another very popular restaurant? Are you in city planning and aware of instances where cities have done that? I only know of cases where cities have restricted chain stores, but then that would also apply to McD's. I know that Anaheim is in a unique situation because of DL, and they often do what Disney wants, but I don't see Disney backing McD's in a request like that. Sounds like unfair restriction of trade.

City has control of what restaurants or businesses go where. Not uncommon for those city leaders to lean a certain way due to contributions and support.

You're alleging bribery to restrict trade. I can't imagine that In-N-Out would stay quiet if they thought that was happening.

I think it more likely the issue is the congestion and vehicle backups an in n out that close to the parks would cause in an already well-trafficked area.

INO did try to build close to DLR. They planned on building where the Cocos is at Harbor/Chapman (Target parking lot), which is less than 2 miles from DLR entrance. Garden Groove denied the request, claiming the building is historic (one of the last remaining Bob’s Big Boys). When INO said they’d incorporate the building into their restaurant, GG then citied traffic congestion.

There really isn’t anywhere closer to DLR to build an INO. Maybe that will change one day. They have a walk up location on the Las Vegas Strip near Bally’s, and they’re building a huge, multilevel location Center Strip that will largely target foot traffic.

Maybe one day they’ll be in Garden Walk, or have a multilevel location where Mimi’s Cafe or Tony Romas (yes they’re still in business) are today? Not likely due to traffic but stranger things have happened.

That makes sense, LAS2AMS. I've seen what an In-N-Out can do to street congestion (backups from cars trying to get into the drive-through line) even in areas that have only moderate traffic.

I don't think that would be the reason. But I could definitely see them not wanting a drive thru in an already busy/congested area. I know a lot of a places have put a limit on approval of drive thru's

Even if rare, there are In N Outs without drive thrus. Closest one in Fullerton near the university.

There’s a huge location near the old Laguna Hills Mall. It’s also the filthiest location I’ve ever been to. Last I heard, they were looking to relocate it.

Maybe when Mimi’s Cafe is finally put out of its misery they’ll replace it with a multilevel INO (like they’re building on the Strip). I’m not sure who owns the land - Mimi’s, the hotel or somebody else. But they could make it happen! I haven’t been to that (or any other) Mimi’s in years, but last I went the manager said it had the highest revenue of any restaurant so it’s no longer to go anywhere soon (unless they’re leasing and the increase kicks them out). It use to be open much later so maybe that’s no longer the case.

That said.. I’m not sure INO would be interested. Most visitors are local and not walking Harbor, especially when they build the new parking deck. INO is open late, so it’ll be more convenient for most people to stop at one on their way home. Probably not a lot of foot traffic to justify a location w/o a drive through.

They’ve passed on quite a few sales, including the Red Lion (now Hotel Lulu) and Travelodge (now Ramada), which are both already in the Toy Story parking lot. My guess is that they’d chase down the properties across Harbor, but for the right price.
