I was thinking (and not really sure which board this should be applied to) wouldn't it be nice for a new perk for Disney Resort guest. I came up with Golf Cart/Golf cart paths as a mode of transportation to the parks and other resorts. Wouldn't it be great to be able to rent a golf cart to ride to one of the parks or to one of the other resorts instead of waiting on buses.
Don't say this can't be done. My town has over 800miles of cart paths, we go to Walmart on a golf cart LOL. There are two such towns in the US both are model cities. One is in GA and one is in CA. So it can be done.
I think it would be a great thing! What are your thoughts?

Honestly.... I think it would be a disaster. Good concept but I don't see it working. Sorry!!!

I'm another one that thinks it's a recipe for disaster. There's just too many people, and WDW is just too spread out. Can you imagine 20,000 golf carts being driven around? Not to mention parking for them? Not to mention people driving 80 mph down World Drive just as a golf cart driver decides to cut across the road because tehy see a "pretty bird" and want to get a picture of it?

In a town where it's a way of life for everyone, it would be great. In a place like WDW with poeple from all over the world and their various customs and the lack of attention due to being tourists? no way.

Yep, I knew you had to be from Georgia- we went to Braelinn and lived in Fayetteville- loved the paths and the fourth of July celebrations- but I think I have to agree this would be tough in WDW- mainly because 98% of the people who are there are on the move all the time- whereas in PC you're "living" there and not out visiting restaurants, parks, pools, marinas, boardwalks everyday. And unless they were electric I don't think all the exhaust would be good. But I do think having just one resort set up like that- perhaps more of a golf resort would be a great idea! Boy do we miss that area! That's probably the one area we would move back to if we had a choice- just loved it!

Not to mention the HUGE insurance liability...but it does sound like FUN!!!!

One resort is set up like this - Fort Wilderness! Golf carts are available for rent to move all about FW. I think it works great there. However, I have to agree with the others the rest of WDW is not set up well to be "golf cart city." Just imagine the whole Epcot Resort area with golf carts! I'd be afraid to walk around and especially with my young DD. Neat idea for some cities but not WDW, IMHO.

You used to be able to have golf carts when you stayed at the vacation villas. I am not sure what they are now but they were condos by the market place. You could drive your cart over there, plug it in and go to dinner. But this was in 1983.

I work for an insurance company as an underwriter and have worked on golf course accounts. I have seen many claims involving carts, some serious. People getting hurt getting in and out of them, not putting the brake on properly and they start rolling, flipping them over (more likely with the old 3 wheel models). Those bikes on the Boardwalk make me nervous as an insurance person, I can see one plowing into a crowd (especially drivers who expect you to move for them when they beep).

ImHall200- yep I am from PTC! We welcome you back any time!:D

I think it can be done. Build a cart bridge over any busy main roads (as my city has done). Add a few dollars on the rental to cover the cost of ins. , plus in like 30 yrs we have only had two golf cart accidents in my city. So they aren't that frequent. As long as you don't let guest drive them drunk i think you'd be ok . With other rules of course like you can only drive them if you have a lic. which would cut down on the chance of children or teens racing on them or just playing and getting hurt. Have golf cart police too . we do.
And it isn't like everyone would rent one i am sure. So say half the resort population does. I am guessing that would probably be acurate. I think this could work and be fun! It isn't like I live in some little rural area, this town is in metro Atlanta!

And who's going to pay for the infrastructure to build the galf cart paths and bridges over 40 square miles of property? Not to mention the cost of purchasing 5000 golf carts at $2000 a piece--that's ten million dollars in start up costs--before building anything--including plug in stations! My guess is that it would cost another 50 million to added the needed infrastructure--if not more. I don't see this happening--period.

Disney has an environmentally friendly, efficient and safe transportation system in place. Albeit it has it's flaws, but so does every transit system.

The biggest proplem is the tourists worst enemy--themselves-and the liability issues they'll create.
