Hi everyone:
I too am a newbie and very excited to be here:bounce: I have been following the Atkins plan for a little over a year, kind of went off for awhile and am now back on with a vegence. I lost a total of about 18 lbs. while on it and incorporating exercise (LOTS of exercise!!) I generally run 3-6 miles/day and lift 3 days a week. I was wondering if anyone experiences any aches and pains, particularly back and hip problems, and what remedies you use to alleviate them. I have had chronic back problems, so I am reconciled to that, but my hip has really been bothering me lately and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for me (BTW, I am 38 years YOUNG:D ) Anyway, thank you and I am looking forward to conversing with all of you. Welcome to the WISH board, glad to have you join us. You mentioned problems with your back/hips. I have a friend who can't do a lot of exercises because of back/leg/hip problems, but she can do water aerobics. Have you ever tried that, she said since there is no impact she is able to handle that? I haven't because I'm not a big fan of water, but thought I would mention that to you. Again, welcome and look forward to getting to know you.

There are just about as many different programs as there are WISHers! BUT -- we all have the same end goal -- to lose weight and become healthier inside and out! Becoming healthy on the outside takes becoming a better person on the inside -- and THAT is what WISH has done for ME! I am also from PA Dutch Country - it's good to have a 'neighbor' on the boards!

Welcome to the WISH- you're in good company with a bunch of losers!
I have/had a bad back- I have to religiously do hamstring stretches to keep muscle spasms away and I could never jog- even when I was skinny- I would not recommend jogging if you have back/hip pain- how about walking fast?? It's much easier on your joints just takes a little longer. If I have a flare-up with my back I do the stretches and alternate moist heat/ice and take 2 aleve. Hope your back gets feeling better soon!!! And the water sports would be GREAT for ya!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Wovenwonder, you asked how I found you. 2 years ago my family took their first trip to WDW and I found the DISboards then; after the trip I just checked in once in awhile. We are planning a trip to US/IOA in August, so I have been lurking all over getting tips and just stumbled (luckily for me) on the WISH board. I have lurked for a few days and then decided to GET BRAVE and join the fun because you all seem so wonderful and supportive of each other. I plan on going over to the other thread to tell you a bit more about myself there (I'm really bad with the picture thing so that may have to come later.):rolleyes: Thank you all for the tips and suggestions, my doctor had also recommended water therapy and we do have a pool, but as Wovenwonder can attest to, the weather up here has not been conducive to swimming yet:( and I live in the "boonies" so to speak.
