Most of you have probably heard the old wives tale that a bird in the house means a death is imminent. About an hour ago, a bird started fluttering around in our bedroom. I tried to catch it, but when it went into the bathroom, I saw another one! One went back into the bedroom, so I opened a window and closed the door . Eventually, I was able to capture the one in the BR with a soft towel, and I released it through the open window in the bedroom. I think the one I trapped in the bedroom found their way out the window on its own, I haven't seen it since.

Logically. I know this is just an old wives tale, but I just can't stop thinking about it.

Anyone here ever have something similar happen?

I've never heard this old wives tale and I'm a bit more pragmatic. Birds in the house, in your case, means you need to buy screens. That's all. Go make a cup of coffee and enjoy your morning, because you're obviously some place warmer than me! :thumbsup2

We had birds get into the house a few times when I was growing up. I can honestly say that it didn't mean death for anyone.

 It'll be fine, promise.

Yikes. Thank goodness I have never heard that old wives tale! I had a bird fly in my house (through front door) TWICE while DH was in Iraq several years ago. Never before nor after has this occurred. Had I heard that tale, I would have been spooked! Must have been good luck for us in retrospect!

Death for the bird maybe.

I thought the old wives' tales was a bird pecking at your window, not actually flying into the house.

You need to close the opening that they're getting into. I must say you're a brave soul. I would run out of my house screaming if a bird got in. No way could I chase it and catch it. That's a job for my husband.

Nah, it's only 30-something degrees outside. I like your attitude and maybe I will get some more coffee. I've only had one Disney refillable cupful so far :)

...the 'old wives' tale' that I've heard is when you see a morning dove first thing in the AM it meant death....I know you'll be fine - enjoy the rest of the day...

I have never heard any of these before but this one is weird because my mom had this bird that would fly into her bathroom window every day for months. Every time she went in there it would fly up and hit the window several times. One day it just quit, but around the same time my grandfater became ill and passed away. It makes me wonder now. :scratchin

I have heard that wives tale before and its bunk. Don't worry when I was a kid plenty of birds flew in the house because we left the screen door open, nothing bad really happened. Just have a cup of tea and fix the screens.

I have heard that tale. But--maybe the second bird cancelled out the curse of the first one! :rotfl2:

Relax and enjoy your coffee. ;)

I think it is a sign of death, but not for another 40-50 years, so relax;)

Welcome to the Dis:earsboy:

I think traditionally, one bird in the house means a death, two birds means a wedding. Got anyone in your family about to tie the knot?

When we had a bird in our house I posted it here and heard that tale for the first time. I was a nervous wreck. We did have a death- our goldfish died!

I've had birds get in the house a few times. No worries!! You might want to see if they are gettinmg in through your chimney since you saw two-we had one get in that way.

My in-laws had a bird get stuck in their fireplace through the chimney in the spring and everyone they know is just fine.
