New Happy Meal...Thoughts?

I think it's ridiculous, lots of apples will end up in the trash, and lots of poor cashiers who have no control over this will be getting reamed out by ticked off moms of whining kids who want fries.

And Burger King will see an increase in sales. ;)

I dont think so, Mickey D's has better toys, and BK's fries are YUCK!

Why do so many people assume that McDonalds is doing this just to "feel good" about doing something about childhood obesity?? Last time I checked, McD's is in business to make money, just like Disney. They will do whatever they think will sell the best, and you can be sure that any decision to change Happy Meals comes after extensive consumer research.

I also don't eat fruit of any kind

:scared1:

which is part of my disdain for this whole idea of apples in a Happy Meal. As a kid (and now as an adult) I would've been distraught over being given apples. So my own personal hangups color my view.

Apples are yucky. :lmao:

But as has been pointed out numerous times, you can still opt for all fries, so this shouldn't really be a problem for you.

Of course (and I'm one of the ones who pointed that out) but I'm still turned off/grossed out by the notion of apples even being there in the first place (though I don't have kids and never order Happy Meals, so I have no dog in this fight anyway).

I'm not particularly fond of most vegetables either. :rotfl2:

Any changes that causes the caramel dipping sauce to be taken away is a horrible decision!!

Overall, I dont like the decision. The story as reported on the local news this morning is that there is no longer an option for fries OR apples. It's only the 1/2 & 1/2 option. That goes against some other things I heard so I dont know which way is accurate.

Let parents parent...I dont need McD's telling me what to feed my kids. Having McD's (even with God forbid fries) won't hurt a kid eating there once in awhile.

What do you get in your Happy Meals to start with ?

We get fries, potatoes or cherry tomatoes coming with either the hamburger, nuggets, fish burger, cheese burger or ham and cheese toasted sandwich
Then for desert it's pineapple or apples/grapes as solid fruit options or organic yogurt or apple/banana sauce options.

Wonder if your new options are going to be rolled out world wide :confused3

but the FF are the vegetable, at least that is what I consider it when we go to McD's.........:rotfl2:

and I agree with the poster who said the apples taste gross.
my kids like apples and will eat apple slices at home, but the happy meal ones just taste weird and they don't like them

McDonalds is changing their happy meal. Instead of a choice between apples or fries...now it will be half of the fries with apples.

Thoughts???

We already had a choice of one or the other...why take that away? One of those choices may not be as healthy and one of the choices was healthier. Now we're stuck with them making the choice for us.

I realize that childhood obesity is a huge issue, but no one is forcing anyone to go to McDonalds.

Parents (who are presumably ordering and paying) should have the choice.
My child won't eat sliced apples, so those apple dippers will just go in the trash, a waste of food. :headache: I hope they will still allow the parent to ask for 'just fries, no apples' or "just apples, no fries".

You do realize that there are parents who are quite happy with the changes, right? If what your news reported is accurate, it just means that McD's has simply decided to market to those who want 1/2 and 1/2 instead of parents who want all fries or all apples.

It isn't really McDonalds behind this telling you what to feed your kids.
I won't go further because we can't talk politics. but lets just say some feel they know best and have to make choices for us because we are too dumb to do it ourselves;)

Around here it's either a pack of sliced apples or a small pack french fries with either a cheeseburger, hamburger, or nuggets. There is no dessert usually, although some locations toss in a mini pack of cookies. A drink is also included, either milk, juice box, or kid-sized soda.

Oh wow there's a big difference then - I thought that North America would have more choice than Europe

We also get a drink , soda, evian water, organic apple juice or pure orange juice but you'd never get milk. I don't think anywhere here would offer children milk in a childs meal

Thank you for the reply :)

My pleasure! It's always so interesting to see how the little, everyday things we are accustomed to are different in other countries!

May I ask why milk would not be an option? Children here drink milk quite a lot, and it comes in small cartons or small plastic bottles. Our schools always offer milk at lunch as well.

A kid's portion of fries is so tiny as it is. A half order must be like, what...7, maybe 8 fries?

We just had a Happy Meal yesterday (1.99 day) and I think the fries were a regular small like on the dollar menu. It was a lot, and she didn't eat them all.
