New Happy Meal...Thoughts?

I think what we get depends on the day. Sometimes it might be nice to have my kids get apples, but usually we just get fries. My DS4 is a salad/fruit kid normally so I dont care if he gets just fries.

I will add that on the rare times we go to Chik Fil A, we always get a fruit cup. He loves them!

When it is the moms fault for not telling the cashier that she wants to order the happy meals with a full order of fries since that is still an option, just not the default.

Except I hope they TELL people the default changed! I had no idea the default was going to change until I read this thread! I hate when default stuff changes and they don't tell you!!! It messes with your head when you know your regular order and then all of a sudden it's not right (BTDT with Burger King put toppings on that weren't there before, so I didn't order it without & was NOT a good thing to do to a pregnant hormonal lady!).

When some of the chain restaurants went to a similar policy, I heard a lot of "That comes with grapes, would you prefer french fries or applesauce or carrot sticks?" I'm sure McD's will do the same thing.

If not, the apples are in little plastic bags, they can take them off the tray and replace them if you forget to ask. Changing french fries for apples would be a little more wasteful, because they might have to throw them out, but perfectly doable.

I don't go to McDonals very often but when I take DN to any fast foos place she gets the fruit and then eats some of my fries. Works out good for both of us. I haven't read all of the comments so someone may have already addressed this but why does Burger King charge 49 cents MORE for the apples than the fries? I was on vacation recently with DN and found this.

McDonalds is changing their happy meal. Instead of a choice between apples or fries...now it will be half of the fries with apples.

Thoughts???

We already had a choice of one or the other...why take that away? One of those choices may not be as healthy and one of the choices was healthier. Now we're stuck with them making the choice for us.

I realize that childhood obesity is a huge issue, but no one is forcing anyone to go to McDonalds.

Because they offered the choice and people still screamed and yelled about how bad the meals were. This shuts up the most people.

Haha, why does this even matter? I go to McDonalds because I want to eat a pile of crappy processed food that tastes delicious. Some people go to get apples (???) so to each his own. If people choose to have 8 fries and six slices of apple cut thinner than a piece of cardboard with their happy meal, then by all means. I choose the salt drenched fries and cover them in vinegar (apparently that's a Canadian thing. No Mickey D's I've ever been to in the US offers vinegar as a topping.)

How is this even a debate?

Good lord, who goes to McDonald's for healthy food. :confused3

I just hope the apples don't have the peel on them. My DS-5 loves apples but freaks out at the slightest amount of peel. So, I sit there and attempt to take off the peelings with my fingernails, ugh! I think this was at some other fast food place...can't remember.

My DS doesn't usually eat fries, so normally I don't order them and just eat his. He also doesn't eat hamburgers, EVER. He's a weird kid...a skinny kid, but a weird kid!

I think that people will still complain. McDonald's seems to be the poster child for all that is wrong with out diets in some people's eyes. I don't think that anything will shut them up.
