New FP+ policy and waitlist

Although I'm glad Disney is trying to prevent people from getting around the 60 day FP+ policy with new rules, I'm concerned about waitlists. They said that if someone has a resort reservation on property, so makes their resort reservation, then cancels the resort reservation later, Disney would cancel all the FP+s. My concern is what if I've got a resort reservation, but am waitlisted at another resort. At right around 30 days, my waitlist comes through (that's when it's happened several times). Now my original resort gets cancelled and a new one gets made. Under the "old" system, I was fine. But now, will my FP+s get cancelled? Or (I hope) does my confirmation # stay the same for the new resort so they don't cancel my FP+s?

I don't know the exact logistics of how the system works but I don't believe that FP are automatically canceled when a reservation cancels.

I made reservation changes within my 60 day window for my most recent trip in Jan. Changed resorts, different confirmation numbers, no affect on my FPs.

I believe the thought being thrown around is there will be a moderate delay before they are canceled to allow you to book a new room. I’m fairly certain they only will cancel if you never rebook and with a waitlist it occurs immediately next to each other so I’d bet it’s all good.

The cancellation of FPS is a new rule that takes effect tomorrow

Wish they could cancel FP+ for those who book a throwaway room and never show up. The new policy is a good start though.

They still get money from those people though with the deposit. It’s all about the money. If you want the 60-day access, you have to pay for it.

I think a waitlist - or a rebook - will be fine. It's more about having a 24+ hour period, or hitting the cron job, without a booking.

Something I have wondered is what if you have to shift your trip by a day or two within 60 days after you e made FP’s. I wouldn’t need those FP’s on days 1 and 2 anymore but would still need them on days 3-6. Will you lose all of your FP’s for the whole block of time because you don’t rebook those first two days because plans changed? Seems harsh to me.

Your confirmation/reservation # should stay the same. I changed my resort 3x with the 'modify' tool and the confirmation/reservation # stayed the same. You're not cancelling the reservation, just modifying it. If you completely cancelled and then rebooked, you might run into issues.

Sorry. I wasn’t specific. What if you have a cash stay booked and then a points stay? This would technically be 2 different reservations. Now, the system treats them as one stay for the purposes of FP’s. What happens when you have a split stay and cancel the first cash portion but keep the second because you don’t want to spend the money, work requires a shortened trip, or airfare drops if you come in a could of days later? Do all of your FP reservations get cancelled with this new system?

It looks like there will be a 2 day window for you to book something else without losing your FP. So if you book, and then something else opens up and you cancel the first reservation, you’ll need to make the second reservation within 2 days or lose your FP.

My response was to the OP. I'm actually surprised the system treats 2 different reservations as one stay for FP. I would think if you still have any reservation during that time frame your FP would stay...but who knows...

I’d hope so too. If the FP’s are cancelled for the portion of my trip where I’m no longer going to be there, that’s fine. I have always cancelled them myself, and this would save me the trouble. If all of my FP’s are cancelled because I cancelled a part of my trip including the ones for the days I’ll be there, this would be an issue. Disney’s IT leaves something to be desired to put it mildly. I don’t know how they’re going to handle this. My suggestion is that if you cancel a reservation and don’t rebook within 24 hours, than all the FP reservations for the days associated with the cancelled portion should be cancelled as well.

But how would they know you never show up?Since there is online check in you never need to show up to the front desk and there is no record of when the room is entered by a guest.

Plus, it's money in Disney's coffer without the cost of turning over a room. Why would Disney put a stop to it as long as the room is paid for?

Also true and I have been told by some CMs that by contract they aren't allowed to use any room that has been paid for with points until the checkout time, but not sure how true that is.

Agreed, I said *could* not *would. But I'm always surprised to see threads where people ask who they should call to advise they will be arriving a day late.

The real issue with throwaway rooms is at the campground, does online check-in work the same way with the campground where they will just text you with your site number? Many campgrounds will escort you to your site because they don't want your F350 and 40' rig wandering *trying* to figure how to get to your site.

Likely if the door is never opened by the guest. If you never entered the room, it is pretty likely it isn't being used. Also they track if you've passed through the guard shack at the resort or boarded DME.

If you made the FP+ reservations for day 3 and later days when the window opened for day 1, you received an advantage over those who booked their trips starting on your day 3. How could Disney tell the difference between your adjustment and someone who just books a few days early to get FP+ for popular options and then cancels the unwanted days?

I don't know if it works the same way, but don;t you need to go through a guard station of some kind before entering the campground? That would tell them if you've arrived or not.
