On top of this fact, another positive feature worth noting are the Matisse-deco elevators (which are truly "rockets" and incredibly FAST!). You'ld be hard-pressed to find any as smooth or fast as those in the Swan/Dolphin, etc. :wizard: :goodvibes

The elevators are definately fast but sadly, no longer have the Matisse decoration.

It was a balcony room. I love a balcony - it feels like extra space. I never saw anyone on their balconies while I was out on ours so the issue of privacy was not a problem. Then again, it was late July and the temps and humidity quite high...doesn't bother me! ;)

Also, we received this room as a comp upgrade. The S/D CMs have always been so generous in their upgrades for all our stays (learned all that from you Dreamflight :thumbsup2 ).

*Mouseteacher--did your room on the 8th floor have a balcony as well? This feature makes enjoying illuminations even more memorable. It's also nice to use for a break, to sit in the sunshine, read and/or enjoy a cup of morning coffee. Although the balconies are not fully private due to their design, they are somewhat obscured by designs/details on the iron and offer enough solitude to relax and unwind comfortably. They also come in handy for drying wet pool towels and feeding ducks below (bread crumbs, etc). :cloud9:

Someone should have told the people in the room next to us in 2004 I think it was. It was night, I went out on the balcony to wait for Illuminations to start and there was a couple sitting out there in the raw! The guy got up and swiftly went back inside their room. I couldn't see too much, but I could tell he wasn't wearing anything! The woman just sort of sat there in shock I guess that he left her out there alone! I guess she was waiting for me to get up and go inside, but I had no intentions. Once she stood up I got a good view of her upper nude half out of the corner of my eye! :lmao:

Let that be a warning to anyone requesting a balcony at the Swan/Dolphin! ;)

It wasn't us - we didn't have a balcony on our 2004 trip!!!!! ;)

I am so excited. We will be checking in for our first stay at the Dolphin on November 26th! We were just wondering how far the Dolphin is from the attractions on the Boardwalk, like Jellyrolls for example? I know the hotel itself is huge. We are hoping for the east wing for a view of Epcot. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance. Have a wonderful night!

Hi everyone.....remember me? I tried to keep myself away to help avoid any temptation to head for florida....But you know me!!! Temptation is lurking around the corner.

We have been contemplating heading to disney the first full weekend in January. My son & g.f. are a bit disappointed that the marathon is full already since they are avid runners now. But hopefully we can scrounge up a room at a rate that won't max out my credit card and maybe spend the weekend there anyway...... DD is a bit paranoid about missing school but she's smart - she'll be fine for a couple of days.

D.S. is nearly done with year 5 - Civil Engineering. Remember when I first posted? He was just getting done with High School!!!! Boy time flies.....

As far as walking to the Boardwalk in the above question....you are probably a 5 minute walk from Jellyrolls. A bit further of course to the ESPN end. For a normal walker about 15 minutes to MGM or Epcot either direction. My son makes it in about 8, LOL.

To keep things moving along I thought I'd share some pictures from our magnificent king corner turret room we enjoyed in September! We had 2 balconies with views of the Swan, the pool area, MGM, Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk.

Question about the corner turret rooms... do these rooms connect? We have stayed at the Dolphin numerous times, the last 2 times in a suite (we are a family of 6). We have been saving SPG points for a stay possibly this coming April, and rather than using points to upgrade to a suite, I'm thinking of using them to just book two connecting rooms - my wife and I in the king turret room and the 4 kids in a connecting double/double (if they indeed connect).

It is 10K points per night for suite upgrade, but you can book a regular room for 40K points using the 5 for 4 deal. So, as I do the math, that means with 80K points, I can book two rooms for 5 nights rather than a suite for 4 nights... but I will miss having the extra room the suite provides...

Sorry to tell you the turret rooms are at the ends of the hallway in the wings and they do not connect with any other rooms.

Not far at all--maybe a very leisurely stroll of 10 minutes--more likely less. Enjoy your stay! :sunny:

Blondie!~I can actually recall a long thread which moved in this direction (voyeuristic exploits on WDW resort balconies, etc)! All I can say is WOW! :teeth: In all the times we have had a balcony, I've never seen so much as a tushie! LOL...

Mouseteacher~Yes, the SD staff always seemed to be more accommodating and apt to offer upgrades than the Disney resort staff (IMHO).
The Balcony rooms overlooking Epcot and Illuminations are beautiful, especially on the upper floors of that far East wing. You were near the top on the 8th floor--with great views. :wizard: If I recall you posted beautiful photos of the views from that room, which were unobstructed and clear (could see the Epcot Globe too!). :cloud9:

You are right about the "balcony" providing the illusion of more space. I believe this is true for a cruise ship room/suite, apartment or resort hotel room too! Just leaving the curtains open and taking~in the additional availability makes the area "seem" much larger than it is. I've always loved rooms with balconies. :lovestruc

jgates~Hello Jenny! Of course I remember you, (and your sweet DD too). You were at the Tea in the GF/04. Glad to read things are all going well for you. It's been a long time since I've seen you post here, and I've often wondered how everything was going with you? Wow...your son is finishing civil engineering school? Congrats to him on that wonderful accomplishment.

I definitely recall the end of HS time, etc., and all the conversations in regards to the future. Glad to read everything is going so well. :thumbsup2 Hope you all make it to the WDW Dolphin soon, marathon or not! BTW...I had no idea they had a limit to the # of runners/entries in the race (and it's already full)? I guess I underestimated the popularity of this event! :confused3

ztam3~Welcome! Nice to read of your excitement about your first visit to the Dolphin. :yay: :dance3: The boardwalk and Jellyrolls is very close (walking distance) as Jenny and others reported. If you stay in the far east wing, you can take the stairs at the end of the hall and you'll be even closer (to the bridge and the BW) through this exit. You will not be able to return via this door though (as it locks behind you with no key swipe, etc).

Hieatt~Nice to see you again. :wave2: Glad to hear you are still enjoying the Dolphin. The corner turrets are great rooms, but have none which connect (sadly), as Gail wrote. The option would be a room right next door, which depending on the age of your children--may/may not be a bad idea. The suites are always great--and offer extra room, etc. (as you are aware).

But, the nice privacy/idea of the romantic corner turret for you and your wife--may be worth the trouble. Just keep a close eye on the kids, and a key to their room in your pocket for "drop-ins" anytime, etc. There is a junior suite (2-room) on the far west side, overlooking the pool with a balcony. I would be able to obtain the room numbers if you are interested. It's a very nice suite from all reviews/accounts. :goodvibes

Wasn't us either!!!! We had kids with us! I do believe we accidentally made them go to Tubbi's for food...and umm accidentally locked the door completely one night, but other than that, no balcony maneuvers!

well as of right now we are going the weekend after the marathon and to save a few $$$ we are staying at POFQ. It will probably be good for us to experience an actual Disney resort, although to me the S/D have been actual disney resorts. But with cost differences, unless we receive a promo postcard via email, we will be trying something new. DS was disappointed with not being able to get in the marathon but says he will be content to work on his tan and just sit there and relax. That's what is important. Right now he is taking around 18 credits, working 30 hours a week or more, studying he estimates around 30 hours a week, runnign 8 miles a day and somewhere finding a bit of time to sleep. A nice break will be well deserved.

Have to put on my waitress shoes - talk to you later!

One of my posts disappeared! Poor Alice.. not only does she have to live up to last year's wind problem but if you even speak of it people get paranoid!

(this really is on topic because her and I shared a two bedroom executive suite two summers ago)

Jenny>> It is so good to see you! I have been thinking about you and your family. You'll have to join us for this summers meet!

I hope the S/D comes through with a discount you can use. Its good to be in favorite surroundings.

Exactly, Debbie. :sad2:

I think maybe I should do a split stay between Swan or Dolphin and a Disney resort to see what these resorts are really like. They really got rid of their concierge service, huh? So they have 7 different Presidential Suites but don't offer another level of service to those who book them? :confused3 I forgot the price on them too. Does anyone know? Has anyone ever stayed in one of these? Got pics? Can we see them? I think they were 2/3 bedrooms so maybe a suite party might be in order. ;) That would be fun, wouldn't it?!

Alice and I had a suite party, unfortunately, it was our kids who had it in the middle room!

There are fantastic pics of the presidentail suites on the S/D site. Anyone play the piano? One of them has a piano in it. Perhaps we can get the jelly rolls players to come on up and play for our party?

I have loved all of my stays there. I have had one at the Swan, in an EPCOT view room, and two at the Dolphin. One was a hospitality suite, the other the two bedroom executive suite that I shared with Alice and her family two summers ago. I missed staying there for part of the trip last summer. The resorts are in an excellent area... AND we won't have to carry you back far from Jellyrolls!

Yeah, shorter walk back from Jellyrolls is definitely an advantage. No digging around looking for the room key so I can gain entry back to the other resorts when being chauffered around either. :teeth: :thumbsup2 I could soooo handle the walk back don't you think? :rotfl2:

They don't have many pics of those suites on their site. Just one general but they had a 360 of the Japanese suite's living room. I don't play the piano but I bet some others can. ;)

Which one do you favor? I see they are on different floors too. Of course, we should shoot for the top floor, right? :smooth:

Okay, who is Alice and why are we to not speak of her?

I read somewhere, don't recall where, that in order to book one of the themed Presidential Suites they run a credit check on the guest wanting to stay there. Can anyone confirm that?

I guess they want their expenses covered if you invite the Red Hot Chili Peppers over and they decide to give the grand piano the old heave-ho out the window! :rotfl: ;)

We'd be right by Kimono's, too! I am still really bummed that they were closed the night we went out. It has always been a favorite night time haunt of mine! They make a great cosmo there!
