Wake my sister up to let us in the room (she'll have our room keys waiting)

Truly, this is not the best idea. A better solution would be for your sister to alert Concierge on the day of your impending arrival, and leave an envelope with a room key inside (she can give you the extra keys when she sees you the following day). If she alerts concierge to your expected time of arrival, and informs them you will be coming by the concierge counter to pick~up this envelope--that's all there is to it. You can keep the "wake up my sister in the dead of night" as a back-up plan. :confused3 It's just not the best idea to traipse through the halls at an early morning hour, and bang on her door. You may possibly disturb other sleeping guests, etc. Just pick-up the room key in a letter awaiting you at the concierge desk. Simple, fast and effortless. :goodvibes

Lesley~I can not imagine why your DH does not wish to give this resort a "try" especially considering the savings. I have never understood the lack of "Disney" feel, since the resort uses the same transportation system, offers views of the same fireworks shows (better views than the Disney Counterparts as they do not have as many floors as these resorts), and better perks when it comes to the beds (heavenly), and pools (open 24/7, movies), and choice of restaurants...etc. These are incredible properties...and if he sticks to his guns over the lack of a meal plan, and seeing "disney" employees...he's leaving room for all the rest of the people who do not care about these minor issues. FTR...the gift shop has DISNEY employees working there, so he could always stop in and loiter a while if he is feeling the lack of the "Disney" feel. :confused3

Ericafny~long~time, no see! I'm so happy to read you are visiting the Dolphin (my second home!). You will love it for all the reasons I do, and find it difficult to reserve any other location. Enjoy!!! I look forward to reading your report. :cloud9:

AndyMcV~Great job of listing all the reasons behind visiting the WDW Dolphin or Swan. I will always recall your initial stay, as you were so excited for months prior! You were upgraded, and the "buzz" from that entire trip stayed with you for months (years) afterward. :goodvibes It was an amazing time, and the Club level at the Swan (with MAMA T and others) was the BEST on PROPERTY~! Those were the days... :wizard: :cloud9: It's still pretty amazing, and there is no place I'd rather be when staying at WDW. I just LOVE the perks associated with these two properties.

DisneyDotty~Yes, since the rooms without balconies do not have windows which open--I insist on a fan to help circulate the inside air. In most SPG properties, requesting a fan is not a problem, and one is delivered within moments of asking (even across Europe). Yet, for some reason--the Dolphin/Swan do not willingly offer fans for the room. They have brought them when I insisted, after much ado about nothing. But, since that time--I have simply stopped by the closest Target and purchased one on the way to the resort property. At approx $10 for a large box floor fan, it's a bargain--and no brainer. I merely leave the fan behind when done (or leave it in storage if we intend to return again in a reasonable time frame). We left boogie boards there for a year, and they were still there when we returned...lol. The A/C is usually not a problem, unless there was a glitch in the system while your DH was there ( but, as dent373355 remarked, it happens at every resort hotel, including Disney properties). :confused3

dent373355~The entrance and long walks can be avoided via a system of short cuts & by-passes, once you get to know the property. ;)

QueenOfCelts~The PBH can "override" the system at your request by the central main if the suggestion by rie'smom fails to produce satisfactory results, as I do this every time I stay there. I've used the BP process many times, as well as removed the fuse in the sensor. Also, at the Dolphin, the maintenance arrive and remove the fuse just as a poster wrote. It's the only way to override the system in place. Once this is done...the room is icy cold!! So cold we could almost HANG MEAT in ours..and needed the feather duvets for the top of the beds!! ^_^

dwheatl~most all S.Cali is in the midst of a heat~wave, and our neighbors reported the only cool spots are northern coastal areas (Pismo, San Francisco, etc) where the temps are still 70. Some areas are well over 100!!

As HappyMommywrote...it's better to relax and sweat in WDW, than at home (especially in humid states...where you already experience the same type of conditions!). And, as dwheatlwrote, even laundry is FUN at WDW...LOL. :thumbsup2 The thought of the icy cool water pounding on my head from the waterfall of the grotto pool...is a nice thought indeed!! ;)

To everyone traveling to this wonderful place soon---ENJOY!! And, be sure to bring your DDE card, and triple AAA card too! This should all be loads of fun! ^_^

Hey dreamflight99

You rock! :) Thanks for the nice comment. Yes our inital stay at the Swan was amazing. I will never forget it. Now THAT was magical. :goodvibes I can't help myself still talking about it today. I guess what gets me the most is that my little guy had such a great time. He literally had a smile on his face from when we got up to just before he got cranky (which was way past his bedtime.) every day.

My little guy... in a great room at the Swan.

Great photo, Andy! I LOVE the Swan Studio - and hope to get it whenever I stay there! It isn't available for my 5-day trip in October, but I have it reserved for 9 days in late November/early December. :)

Dreamflight - nice to see you! I don't see a notation in your signature about your 2006 WDW plans. Have vacation plans changed now that your daughter is in college? How did she like going to school in England? Is she home for the summer?

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere in this thread but I don' think I can go through all of them, so indulge me please..

Have an opportunity to get a "traditional" room for $159/night, with 2nd room for $89/night. Since my 2 adult daughters will be joining us, I'm thinking this could be a good deal instead of all 4 of us being in one room.

My concern is the "traditional" room...are these parking lot views?? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!! :sunny:

I believe a "traditional" room means no balcony and no particular view - which might mean you overlook the parking lot. Were you planning to look out your window a lot? For those rates, I'd take it and hope for the best.

Is it the swan or dolphin that's getting a lobby make-over? Anyone know when it's expected to be completed? Thanks!! :sunny:

Hi dreamflight! I have been lurking for a little but since I am only 6 days away from visiting the mouse  I have been posting again :sunny:

I know I am going to love the Dolphin, I am so excited...I have always wanted to stay there and I can't believe I am actually going to be there!!!

Yes look out for my report...I attempted one last time but got caught up with 'life'. This time I have my little notebook and pen for notes so I am already to go!

Thanks so much for your helpful info and advice on this thread :thumbsup2

When DH was at the Dolphin last week, he said the lobby was being painted--much of the area was boarded up/covered. Hope it's done next week! :sunny:

I have concerns about the lobby area too as people have been reporting that they are redoing it. I am going to send some pixie dust in hopes they will be finised by next week! :wizard:

Dotty--look for me when you are there, I will have my lime green Mickey head!

The Swan was getting a lobby makeover, starting May 31st, suppose to take 3 weeks, so I would think that was complete now on that side.

Okay Swan experts - what do you think the reasoning is for shutting down the Club Level lounge? Seems odd not to have it as an option. Do you think there are plans to start it up again in the future, or is it gone for good?

(Sorry if this has been addressed before. This thread is WAY to long to search!)

I assumed that it was more of what's been going on everywhere in travel. Places are cutting back on services and the people providing them are being cut. :sad2: If that's the case, I don't foresee it coming back anytime soon.

I suspect it's gone for good myself. Or atleast gone for a long time. The impression I got was that not many people actually paid for it - most people used points or upgrades to get it and from what I also understood, it wasn't uncommon for them to only have one lounge open at a time for both resorts. :confused3

Just got 2 rooms at the swan w/balcony (1st room $224 then 2nd room $124 - code from allears) What's anyone's opinion of any view that they particularly enjoyed having? I'm afraid not to ask for any, don't want to be stuck with something blah you know....Thanks so much for the help!! :sunny:

Was the second room half price??? We need two rooms in October and I thought I had a good rate, but that is just wonderful. Please tell more!

the original rate I saw online somewhere (don't remember where, sorry) was a traditional room for $159/get the second room for $89. When I called I just asked if they had something similar with a balcony because we are balcony snobs :) . The rate code is EARSUM, and was available at Swan and Dolphin, but I don't have the dates, sorry. I'm going in August. The reservation number to call was 1-888-828-8850. I tried to do the reservation online putting in that code and it wasn't a "valid" code, so I ended up calling. Try it, maybe your dates will be included. They were very accomodating with my questions. Good luck!! :sunny:

All the good codes expire before I arrive for my October trip. Great rates, but we are sticking with the Free Food! The rates all end before my Food and Wine trip. Thanks for your help.

:thumbsup2 Andy and Erica...~Thanks for the kind comments! We love both the Swan and Dolphin, and consider a summer complete with a stay in either one. The suite you had is FAB Andy (love the pic...adorable "little guy!" too). :goodvibes We also reserve suites...and just love the added room and comfort these provide.

Nancy...we are currently traveling in Europe (helped DD move out for the summer), and will be visiting WDW a bit later than usual (as DD "is" home for the entire summer break). :cloud9: We are also hopping another 7~night Western Caribbean Dis Cruise (couldn't pass on it). LOL. Next summer, we are reserved on the Dis CL Med journey, which includes a wonderful itinerary. Since we'll already be in Europe--we are just hopping over to the port of call, and taking off for 11 nights of bliss in a suite onboard. We became addicted to the cruise line shortly after taking the initial Western cruise aboard the Magic. If some of you are "contemplating" a Disney Cruise----GO FOR IT!! It's incredible, amazing beyond words. :wizard:

Hope you enjoy a nice summer, which possibly includes a trip to WDW as well! :confused3

To all else traveling to these resorts SOON!! :cheer2: :dance3: :bounce: ENJOY!!!!

TTFN...always, DF99 :wave2:

Wow - both lobbies are getting a makeover. Looking forward to seeing them on our September trip!
