Also on the VT NH border we got 2.12 threw a work discount. The prices are nuts this year. I was really wanted to stay under the 2.00 mark but no such luck. I will have to make a few more quilts for the beds at nights. :cold:

rdsx28,
Thanks for the heads up with BJ's. We never think to check with them for stuff like this. DMIL has locked in at $2.39 already, but our oil company has not sent out the contracts yet.
Luckily for us, when we built our 2400sq ft house a few years ago DH had the foresight to put in a double flue in the chimney. We have since bought a good sized wood stove for the cellar. DFIL has land that he has spent the last few years clearing, so we have a free source of good hardwood. Lots of work to cut, split and stack; but well worth the savings on oil. :goodvibes :goodvibes
We only got our tank filled twice last winter and are committed to burn continuously this year, so hopefully we will use even less.

Is that a pre-buy? I'm also on the vt/nh border, but I cant find a budget plan, only pre-buy's. Budgets are going cash on delivery day price....

Brandy

We are locked in at 2.29, we are on a "budget" plan where we pay the same amount for 11 months and reconcile our usage for the year during the 12th month.

Last year we paid $76 month, ended up with a nice credit for month 12, over $300 - so this year, we are 'scheduled' to pay $72 month. We do have a small house (980 sf) and 4 small dogs to keep us warm through the night :rolleyes1

We keep the thermostat at 68-69.

Our hot water runs off electric though, the electric is about $150/mp, year round.

We don't pre pay just lock in the price for a set number of gallons. I think that is because we buy there dh's work discount. I know they make some pre pay or budget. I am in WRJ where are you?

bout 1/2 hour south of you on 91 in Rockingham.

I'm going to end up biting the bullet and doing a pre-buy, I cant afford to be on a budget plan thats not locked into a price, ugh! Every fuel guy I've talked to about my usage, says 600 gallons will be PLENTY...we'll see just how accurate they are LOL

ShariVT I'm in North Hartland. We are neighbors. I grew up in Hartford. Small world isn't it. We price locked with Irving Oil.

We pay $2.09 per gal. It was pre-pay & due in June. we could have gone somewhat cheaper, but Johnson & Dix has a 7 day a wk, 24 hr service plan that we've always used, so it costs a little more.
We're in a 225 yr old house, about 2,500 sq feet. We buy about 1200-1500 gals per year(365 days). we do keep heat @ 50 degrees at night & not over 58 degrees daytime. We use kerosene heat, or fireplace if electric goes out.
We will close off the top floor this winter, right after Christmas.
Are considering the wood/oil boiler system--

My heart goes out to you people. I dont think I could budget that much a month for oil or electricity.

My DH works for a transfer station that also owns an oil company.
since I had my DS6 they have supplied us with oil every year to keep the boy warm. This year they are putting in a new heating system for us as they think ours uses to much oil. I have told them repeatedly that I will pay for the oil-- even sent checks they send back with VOID on them.

This is the best company to work for and I feel very lucky my DH works there as I work Non-profit and as you can imagine the pay isnt all that great. But I do help out those that need it most.

Hope we all have a short warm winter. :cool1:

Just an FYI for anyone in Central MA - I called around and Noar's Oil in Worcester and Cam's in Webster both came in at $2.19 and $2.18 for pre-buy/automatic delivery. Ugh - but I guess better then the $2.39 contract with the current company...

Here's hoping for a mild winter!

I work in Hanover, NH and live in Canaan. I wonder if we have crossed paths?

Anyway, about the oil. We are with Irving as well. They are high but so isn't Johnson & Dix and the others. I bought $500. worth (228 gals) for this year.

WE have a small 1500 sq ft cape (built 1995). We replaced 5 windows last year and will replace 6 this summer (2 windows & 2 doors remaining for next year). Our original windows were junk and the wood started rotting.

We are in the process of ordering a wood boiler and will burn wood.

We're getting tired of the oil/gas prices. My next car will be a hybrid.

For anyone around Concord NH, I just did my pre-buy with Rymes for 1.91/gal. It's our first year owning a house, so I'm hoping we figured the right amount.

All the heat in the world won't help if the gas prices keep going up - I'll be riding my bike to work in January :)

I just received our oil prices, it is: $2.11 per gallon. It is a fixe priced pre-paid contract, so if the price goes up we are locked in at this price, same if it goes down. I never have to call our oil deliver because we are on automatic delivery. The pre-paid amount is only good for the heating season beginning November-March 31, 2006. If you have a credit you can get the money back or roll it over for next seasons pre-paid contract. We had a credit balance this year of $255, so we will roll it over. We do have a decent size home, 1800 sqft., not heat efficient and we burn alot of wood, 2 wood stoves! We have already purchased a truck full of logs, and have cut and split them ourselves to save on oil. Alot of work, but worth it for us.

I am in mid-West Vermont, town of Weybridge. I just got the letter from our oil company. The pre-buy is $2.08, budget/cap is $2.24. There is a 500 gallon minimum. I do the pre-buy every year; seeing some of the other quotes I'm feeling very lucky to be able to do it again.

speaking of minimums. A lot of "cash on delivery" things have changed around here.

At the X's house we use to burn wood and every couple of months- usually october, and again in March, we'd call and get 100 gallons of oil. This was for the days when it was too warm outside to burn the wood furnace, well now around here, there is a 150 gallon minimum for delivery.

400 gallon minimum for pre-buy

Just did my prebuy today 2.089 for 400 gallons, contract signed today, cash/cc/check due by August 31st....there goes that 840 bucks LOL

I would have PM'd you, but it's not an option under your name? Anyway we may very well have crossed paths. I worked for Dartmouth College for 8 years in the DHMC facility. I also worked at the Movie theater for many years prior to 1992. Or you may have seen me in AJ's restaurant (that's been my 2nd job, off and on for 12 years). Small world isn't it.
