New England Meet - THIS COMING WEEKEND - 9/26!!

It would seem appropriate to start talking about our options for the "train" and "Fire & Ice". Morning or afternoon, lunch or dinner. The train is 9AM to 7PM.

A) AM: Train early then lunch
B) Noon: Lunch then train
C) Noon: Train then late lunch/early dinner
D) PM: Train then dinner @5/6pm
E) ???

My only preference would be train first and timed to allow as many as possible to attend.

Let's discuss. :goodvibes

Ironically, my DW just pointed out that DD will likely have a soccer game in the morning (and I will likely be a coach), so we probably couldn't get to Harvard Square/South Station before about noon...so an afternoon approach is best for us.

My preference is for either option B or option C. My DH works a 24 hour shift from 6 am the day before until 6 am that morning. This would give him a chance to rest up if he's had a busy night and it wouldn't keep him out too late. Also, I notice a few people coming from some distance and I would think this would allow them some drive time on both ends. Just a thought.

I would thiink that the train in the morning followed by lunch makes the most sense. The Podcast team reported waits reached several hours in LA and recommended getting there early.

We would prefer option B or C, but none of the others are deal killers for us either.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Some input for Tara who will decide. This is her gig you know. I'm just here to help :goodvibes

I would actually prefer the morning train myself to avoid the crowd but that doesn't allow time for people travelling from afar, etc.

I'm actually willing to take a risk on the crowd and do it later to allow more people to attend our group meet. The bigger the better. We also need to wait to hear what Bill finds out about a private group tour.

So until we get further info, I'll pick "C" or a variation of it as well.

I'm okay with any option BUT if we do train in the morning, how much time do we allow before we schedule lunch? If the lines aren't long, that won't be an issue but if we are reserving space at Fire & Ice and we miss that time because the wait time at the train was longer than we expected, we may have some disappointed people.

That's my .02

I hate being the decision maker so please don't put the final decision on me.. We can go with what the majority wants (I don't want anyone mad at me.. LOL)

Here are my thoughts though... Originally I thought it would be great to do Fire & Ice 2nd as it gives us as much time to hang out as we want but Armand makes a good point about not knowing how long the wait for the train is going to be and not wanting to rush people through so I think maybe we should eat first (plus South Station is a large area and finding a specific place to meet 50+ people may not be easy)

Looking forward to what others have to say!!

I'm fine with just about any combination, leaning a bit towards C.

A few other reports are coming in for Chicago. Seems the Saturday wait is around 90 minutes if you go later like late morning or after noon. Since we have folks travelling from varied distances it would be hard to have this too early in the morning.

My preference is "train first" regardless of wait. If we did a 1pm train and 5pm Fire & Ice that should allow plentry of time. If we get done the train earlier it just affords for a short side trip on the way to Harvard Square.

But I'm up for whatever the greater group decides. :goodvibes

I like this idea. It will give people time to come in from a distance and allow us to take our time at dinner and enjoy the company. Worse case we amuse ourselves in the city for a hour or so which isn't difficult.

Just an update for me- My husband (Matt) and DD (Sophie 4) will be coming for the train only.

All,

Here is the response from Janet Smith @ Disney Pictures. I'm going to email back about a possible Saturday tour since I wasn't specific about the day in my original email. Any thoughts??? Based on Janet's email sounds like any group tour would be before they open to the public.

Bill,

Thank you for your interest in Disney's A Christmas Carol Train. It is gratifying to read that the people in California enyoyed themselves so much.

Nicole is happy to see that your group has a tour if you can be at the train, in Boston, on Friday, September 25, between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. Please keep the group to about 30 guests. When you arrive, ask to speak with Nicole.

When you have had a chance to organize this, please email again so I can confirm your plans with Nicole.

Looking forward to your visit!

Nice job Bill!

I would say (just my opinion) go for the early tour for those who can/want to make it and then do lunch. Anyone who can't get there early can do the lunch meet and then head to the train after. That way those who would rather arrive early to avoid a long wait can and those who can't, can do the wait for the train after. Either way, the whole group can socialize at Fire & Ice and get to see the train when it is good for them. It may be a great way to make more people happy since you can never please everyone. To keep the tour at 30 or so in the AM, first to sign up get the spots?

Thank everyone for your hard work in organizing!

The problem is they are only offering Friday and we were going to meet Saturday. I would hate for people go fri and make the sat group smaller.

Am I right that they won't budge to Sat Bill?

Still waiting on a definitive response ... but it does sound like Friday will be the only option for a preview type tour.

Bill thanks for looking into the group tour.

Friday and even 7:30 - 8:00am on Saturday would be out for me.

Groan.

It turns out Val & I are going to have to miss this event. I had forgotten I've already got a commitment for both days that weekend.
