I don't know if this may have been mentioned previously as I have been spending more time over on the DCL forums lately, but just took a post-DVC stay resort survey online and one of the questions asked:

If Disney Vacation Club were to offer a Member-exclusive ticket at a discount, which of the following would be most appealing to you?
- 5 days in the parks (hopping included) each year for 5 years

- 7 days in the parks (hopping included) each year for 5 years

- 7 days in the parks (hopping included) each year for 7 years

- Not interested in any of these

with a follow-up question of whether adding 1 or 2 days at the water parks would affect how interested we would be in such passes.

Now that our DD will be starting Kindergarten in the Fall, we will be held to school schedules and not able to travel quite as often as we have with our APs so it is nice to know DVC may be considering alternatives.

They offered something similiar previously, it was discontinued due to lack of interest. I think you got a park hopper for 4 of 5 years, paying in advance.

Thanks for mentioning this. I just got a survey yesterday and was asked the same question, which I thought was kind of odd since the survey was about a stay at HHI. At the time I didn't understand, but now I see the purpose of the question.

WOW, this would be awesome for us!! We go 2-3 times per year to WDW or DL and to be able to go to the parks with this kind of park pass option. We would be VERY interested and await to see if this comes to fruition!!

This would be great! We will be entering our years of following the school calendar, and once yearly trips will become our mode. This is a win for Disney, since they get the $$ for the tickets, and it guarantees that we will go for consecutive years and spend tons of money on food and souvenirs. I would sign up for sure, if it beats anything else out there. Adding the water parks would be great too!

That could be perfect for us since we don't usually go enough to buy our whole family APs

The price would have to beat undercover tourist's mousesavers discount though!

True and having to buy 5-7 years ahead might not be worth the investment all at once, but having completed a lot of these surveys, this is the first time I have seen such a question so someone is at least thinking about it. ;)

I found a post regarding the pass DVC used to offer. Note that this was in 2001, so I'm sure the price would be much more now.

It is called "Magical Year Pass" It is good 4 of the next 5 years. You will be able to visit the parks for 5 days within the year. They cost $749 for both adult and children. This is slightly less than 4 five-day hopper for an adult, but cost more than 4 five-day hoppers for a child. The bad thing is that you can only use 5 days in each year and days not used can not be used on future vists like a true hopper pass.

I think it would be interesting to have something like that as an option. It might work nicely for my DM, who doesn't go into the parks with us very often when she comes to WDW anymore. (She and my DSF usually spend time playing golf and lounging around the resort or hanging out at DTD, and join us in the parks maybe one or two days a trip.) An option for 5 days a year might be great for them, and probably a win for Disney as well, since right now they are probably going into the parks 3 days a year.

I don't know that we'd be interested in it if we couldn't get a TiW card anymore, though. I keep wishing they would just offer DVC members the ability to purchase TiW cards without an annual pass. (I'd love it even more if they just gave us one, but that's another issue, and not one I'm going to hold my breath for.)

I guess whether any of this happens and whether it is really good will depend on whether it is the usual "evil" DVD, headed by Jim Lewis, who is making the decisions, or someone who actually wants to create a valuable benefit for DVC members (I doubt that person exists in the management of DVD).

They did have a program before where you could buy a "discounted" pass that provided 5 hopper days per year for four years and which expired in 5 years -- you got 5 entries per year, if you used one in any given calendar year you had to use all 5 that year (there was no carry over of unused days and you could never get more than 5 entries in any one calendar year); the entire pass expired after five years. You had to pay the total cost up front. That existed when Disney had 5 day hopper passes that never expired but did not have a hopper pass that expired. At first glance it looked OK but then people figured out that the actual cost was really not a discount at all and having only a five day option was stupid, i.e., what was everyone to do who wanted 4 or 6 days a year or, for just one of those multiple years, wanted more or less than 5?

It looks like the survey indicates that DVD is considering resurrecting something that is the same and will likely be touted as having a discount that really doesn't exist (Jim Lewis at his best).

I guess my biggest concern would be..what if we can't make it down there every year? I mean of course we intend to, but life happens and I would be bummed if we need to cancel after buying those passes. It would be wasted money.

I wondered if they are new tickets every year, could someone else use them or if they would be vouchers that only the named person could activate each year.

I would vote none of the above. I would much prefer being able to buy 10 day park hopper tickets with no extra charges for no expiration.

I also got the same exact question on my survey last month. I'm not sure if we'll be able to benefit from this since we plan on going twice a year, but if they do go with something hopefully others will benefit from it. :)

AMEN!!!! That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't mind shelling out the cash for a 10 park hopper that we will use for 3-4 years, but for it to expire in X amount of years, no thank you. Plus we never go into the parks 5 times a year. More like 2-3.

No option will work for every family, but I appreciate the fact they are looking into other ticket options for DVC members besides just the AP.

I don't quite get pre-paying for a slight discount on restricted lifetime non-extendable tickets.

I can understand pre-paying for currency exchange benefits and/or locking in today's prices, but you can do that today. Just buy extra tickets for the next few years (unused tickets never expire, and they can be upgraded)

I have DVC because it was pre-paying for a significant discount, and that makes sense in the long term.u

Well what disney did was smart they made our discounted Annual pass the same price as a 10 day hopper with no water park. I became a DVC member last week on my trip and bought a 7 day hopper. After we became mambers i turned that into an annual pass for minimal upgrade cost and will probably be there at least 2 more times before it expires
