New DVC properties being built

Also remember that the monorail has rights-of-way all through WDW even though not all of the Rights-of-way are used currently. That was done for capacity planning back in the day.

Yup...that's written into the contracts for SSR owners, as the easement runs right through the property as part of the original plans for the Village.

They DID want it to run through the property, but there wasn't much to run it _to_ at the time, so it was never built...and likely far to expensive to do now.

I agree with doconeill and rteetz it would be great to see all this, but it is more than likely a "blue sky" model or a college program planning class. They have "blue sky" models and plans in a lot of Disney facilities and when a project gets green lit they bring the ideas together and see what fits together what doesn't and how to implement it.

That's part of how World Showcase and Future World ended up in EPCOT together. EPCOT was green lit and when the original Future World plan turned out to be small and pretty underwhelming some pushed the blue sky model for the original World Showcase up next to it combining the two ideas into one park.

I think pgiglio67 needs to worry just by posting that he works for that company and he snuck into a room. I know many from Disney that read this including those I know at Imagineering. That is why I keep most of what I am told to myself.

I can tell you that Polynesian DVC is not a rumor and will be starting the end of this year.

Avatar land is happening but that is no secret.

Also the 5th park was Night Kingdom. Yes it existed and was not far from ground breaking and the dump in the economy put that on hold. There is a whole warehouse full of stuff for that park out in California that will either be used for that park if it ever comes back to life or will be used for other things.

I have never heard anyone who plans this stuff mention any truth to
Discovery Island becoming anything and while River Country DVC had some plans in place, it is dead now.

You can thank BLT selling as fast as it did for that. Our now retired sales rep for DVC points who had been with Disney selling DVC since less than a year after its inception was telling us all about the proposed River Country DVC. Then when BLT started selling like hotcakes, there were a bunch of surveys sent out to figure out WHY it was selling at a much faster rate than other properties. Overwhelmingly according to him (like upwards of 90+%) of the people chose monorail versus cost. As in they were willing to pay more to be on the monorail line. This of course set into motion the GF DVC and now the Poly DVC.

With that info, I wouldn't be surprised if the OP was right about another tower being built at the Contemporary replacing the garden buildings.

We may have had the same DVC rep... :)

Although he never really called me... :(

Interesting about the Contemporary. It would be great to have a second tower to balance out the look. Now, if you do that you may as well convert the tower rooms to DVC suites and the whole place is a DVC makeover. Then tear down the convention center and make that area into a new outdoor recreation area. (conventions cannot be great money makers, can they? No families to lavishly spend on souvenirs and food. Less time spend in parks.)

I think you'd have to move Chef Mickey if it converted though. But I love the idea of a total makeover for the tired old Contemporary.

Ever heard the words...company paid...or expense account?

This leads to my husband's favorite latin term...carpe per diem... ;)

I don't know...I personally LOVE the Contemporary. It's my favorite resort and if it went to all DVC I would be very unhappy. From talking to people here and there it seems to be a favorite of many and I don't think they could get away with making it 100% DVC.

Also the convention center is used for many things throughout the year, some of which are hosted by Disney themselves. I doubt they would get rid of all that space. CSR and other places throughout the World just wouldn't be enough, IMO.

You'd be amazed at how much a convention brings in. It's not just the rental of the convention center space, but the hotel rooms, the food, the park tickets, the souvinEARS, etc...

Agreed. Not to mention the Contemporary space is used to hold receptions for very large wedding parties. If your wedding has THAT many guests (250+)...you are paying the big bucks (there could be exceptions but generally not).

I have heard the rumor a few years ago I might add about the CR garden wing being torn down and turned into another tower. I wanna say it was the year we stayed at CR but really cant remember but since it has not happened I really think it is just a rumor. I could see the profit in it tho.

Conventions and weddings are INCREDIBLY lucrative.

Especially at prime spots...and it's hard to beat WDW in terms of jnterest/ draw.

I have experience in this area...you will never see a convention center demolished...unless they build a bigger convention center on top of it.

Even when they look dead... They're raking it in.

You'd be shocked at what they make at the yacht club and boardwalk convention centers... And those are small and few people even realize that they're there.

When they made the BLT tower, there were all sorts of rumors they'd do the same with the south wing to maintain the symmetry. I don't know how true they were, but I kind of assume they've got the plans in a file cabinet for if/when they want to do it.
