We've never been to Hawaii before. We are thinking of going next November, January or February. I have no idea when the busy season is there, other than looking at the points charts and guessing, or what the weather is like there at certain times. When is rainy season? When's a GOOD TIME TO GO is my real question I guess! Thanks for any help. :)

Summer is the warmest and winter (Oct-March) is the rainiest, esp. December. The best thing about late winter / early spring is that it is whale season and the North Shore has the big waves.

Here's a link to the average temps & rain charts on the weather channel:

I have been in late April/early May - caught the end of whale season on that trip BUT it was very crowded on Oahu because there is a major Japanese holiday then & the island was flooded with Japanese tourists (more than usual). Have also been there in July, early Sept. and mi-October and the weather was gorgeous on all of our trips. Sometimes you get rain in the rainforests (that's why they're so lush) but you can drive to find the sun.

This is so disappointing. The most rain in October, November, December, January, February and March - those are our most likely months to travel. That's 6 months of the year they have a lot of rain? :( I wanted to go in November. To beat a December / January rush. Second choice February. :worried:

Did you look at those charts I linked to in my other post? It's not the end of the world - it's not horrible. It is still NICE there (well, Dec. is on average the worst)....it's just those are the coolest and rainiest months. You asked when it was the rainiest. The answer is winter. Compare Hawaii to say Washington, D.C.'s averages which are hotter and rainier in the summer. Hawaii is more consistent all year long and even at its rainiest it is less rainy than most places. It's just that summer would be even LESS rainy.

Any idea of the name of the Japanese holiday? I wanted to check the dates for this year. We will be on the Big Island from May 7-11 and then Aulani from the 11th till the 19th. Hope we are avoiding the holiday during our trip. We already have the flights booked. So we won't be changing the dates. But it would be nice to know ahead.

I think it is called "Golden Week" because it is actually a collection of several holidays that are all very close together...it is in the first week of May. That's why we hit it the time we went at the end of April (our anniversary). I think I remember hearing that the most popular island that they visit is Oahu so you should be OK by the time you go.

Even in the rainy season, you can usually find a sunny side of the island. Aulani is on the dry side of Oahu. We were on Maui in March and it was perfect! We had one day that was a little cool and rainy, but in Lahiana it was hot and sunny. That was only 10 minutes from where we were. Seeing the whales and there is a ton, makes up for any bad weather! I will take a rainy day in paradise any day! :yay:

Thanks so much! Wow, we missed that by just a week!
