I'm a new DVC member (YAY!!) and am trying to plan a trip for Dec. For the amt of people we are taking on our trip DVC has availability and we have enough points for SS or OKW in a 2 bdr.

Which should we do?

Of note, we will be bringing 3 boys ages 9,8 and 4, and a grandfather who walks with a cane age 72.

Thanks!!!

The 2 bedrooms at OKW are much more spacious. With as many people as you are planning, I'd definitely go OKW. We have stayed 6 at both OKW and at SSR and we were much happier at OKW.

Not all of the buildings at OKW have elevators though. That might be an issue for you. I'm not sure they can guarantee that you'd be in one of the elevator buildings.

I would also suggest Old Key West just for the size of rooms for your family.

When making the reservation, let Member Services know that you grandfather has a cane and stairs would not be the best for him. They will do what they can to accommodate in a ground floor villa or a building with an elevator.

Have a great vacation.

I, too, would choose OKW. We've stayed at both. Although the bedrooms are about the same size at both resorts, the great rooms at OKW are substantially more comfortable. The balcony/patio is larger, too, and accommodates a 48" table w/ 4 chairs. Plus, at OKW, you will have a full size washer and dryer rather than a stackable.

I agree with the OKW choice as it will also give you more sleeping options with your group in case the boys decide they each need their own bed.

I would go with OKW for the whole experience. The rooms are bigger, and the rooms are arranged different. I believe the points used are less at OKW.

Another voter for OKW. The unit sizes are amazing, but be mindful that you may have stairs to contend with.

Another vote for OKW, it seemed more spacious, not actually sure if it is, but seemed that way. Might just be the layout

I like SSR better than OKW and had the choice for a stay in October. I chose SSR because of the new pool, the elevators, and just a better feel for me. If you get a dedicated 2 bedroom at SSR, you'll have 2 Qs, the King and the queen pull out in the living room. That should be enough beds.

OKW has larger rooms, but that's not my priority on vacation.

Both have boat service to DTD, so I like that about both. I definitely would stay at OKW if it alone were available, but I prefer SSR to it.

Considering the specifics you've provided I, as the previous posters have done, recommend OKW. Make the CM aware of the mobility issues and all should be well. If you choose to use the resort shuttles you'll find the wait for transportation at OKW is short compared to many other on-site properties.

Thank you all for your replies. I booked OKW today! We are so excited!!!

Great, I was going to say OKW also. We own at both and I think you will enjoy OKW more based on the number of people in your party. We stayed in Jan in a 2bdrm with six, basically adults ages 18 thru 52 and it was great. Our friends stayed at SSR the same week with six in their party and they spent most of their resort time with us at OKW because their kids liked it better. Plus if your grandfather chose to stay at home and just hang around on some days the large balcony with table and chairs might be a good option for him.

You are going to love OKW. I'm so excited for you and your family! :-) Nothing like being a DVC member, is there? :-) Congratulations!
