New DVC Member--Can I Still Do This?

I'm happy to say that we just bought in at BLT tonight!
After much reading and thinking we bought 320 points and split 3 ways, 160/80/80 for all the same reasons being posted. I don't think we'll be selling any off but it felt safer to have the ability. Like you, we were going to borrow points for the first trip and it just seemed to make sense to get more points upfront.

Yes, I would ask that they be split into smaller contracts. It just makes a lot of sense for the future since you never know.

We currently have a 130 BLT contract, but I forsee that being the biggest contract we ever have. In the future, all my add ons will be for smaller amounts.

And, it sounds like Disney is pretty open to doing whatever a buyer wants, especially when they are buying lots of points!!!!

As Crystal suggested, breaking up into 3 would be a good idea and give you lots of flexibility!

Absolutely break it up into smaller contracts.

As new purchasers, you will probably have to buy a 160 point contract but you should be able to split up the rest of the points and still qualify for the 200 point incentives since you are buying that much all at once.

If you really want 320 points, I suggest:

160
80
80

There is no reason NOT to break up the amounts once you have your first 160 points.

Definitely break it up into smaller contracts. There are no additional closing costs for 2+ contracts or for 1. We also have 2 sons and we got our 220 points broken into 2 60pts and 1 100pt contract. We did that because if our sons were willed their contracts, the MF would be more manageable and they would be FORCED to work together to allocate the remaining 100 points (plus I have a REALLY hard time completely letting go of my DVC)

I would also TRULY suggest getting more points now if you think you're going to need them in the future!!! We also had to borrow some points from 2010 for our Christmas trip home to BLT, and I ALREADY wish we had bought just another 25 (we added an additional 60 points RIGHT before closing, wish it had been 85-ugh). I ALWAYS read on the DIS that one of the most common regrets of buying DVC was 1) waiting too long to buy and 2) not buying enough points. I took it into consideration but sincerely wished I had just added a few more..go for it (of course I'm not paying for them, so take that for what it's worth..lol)

And worst case scenario, if you were forced to sell in the future, the smaller contracts DEFINITELY sell quicker and for more $$. Just my .02
