New DVC logo coming

Only problem with that theory is that if the logo was not easily recognizable to the general public, it needs to be changed. Nothing about the old logo said "Disney" except the words. The mountains and palm trees did not do justice. The logo has not signifacantly changed in years (or ever, I am not sure) so I don't think they are in a keep changing it mode.

Some of those logos were central to their names (Coca Cola, McDonalds, etc). Even Coca Cola has to radically change their logo in other countries where it needs translation....with the new DVC logo it is instantly associated with the main disney brand.

The logo has changed before. It went from three mountains to two. I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other, but I think the old one was a bit better graphic and a little less generic than the new one. I think though, that generic is what they had in mind with this change. It really says more about "global Disney" than DVC specifically.

The sun has mouse ears. I think they wanted more "in your face" Disney with the new logo than the current subtle Disney.

Now they really are relying on the Disney brand more to sell it. Unfortunately, I think this will blur the line betwwen Disney and DVC even more for new members. Good for sales, but the new members may expect much more than what they are entitiled to under contract, and they will be disappointed even more with the lack of free dining, daily housekeeping, etc.

Unfortunately, I think you are right, Chuck. We see a lot of those problems here already with new owners.

OK, now that I've seen it ... yeah, as opposed to the 2 purple snow capped mountains with palm trees sticking out of them! I like the old one much better!

Thanks Chuck...yes, I don't know if I ever noticed the sun with mickey ears....definitely not a stand out! ;)

I am not sure that someone will really expect more just based on the logo. Anyone that bought already had those expectations....but you are right, it might bring more people in the door to hear the sales pitch or start looking at it.

The old logo is still all over the Member website, but it very clearly missing from the generic DVC website. It could just be my computer loading it slowly, but I didn't see the new Mickey head globe - but the revised font was very much present at the top of each of the pages that I clicked through.

I received a mailer yesterday confiming the webcast this week and that new logo was on it.

I hate the new logo. It reminds me of the cartoon that was published when Walt Disney died. Is this really a smart idea? :confused3

Personally, I'm not into this whole "global" thing.
Life would be great if I never had to leave the great USA.

Just my opinion..

Oh dear...now I dislike it even more :(

So, instead of signing at the palm trees, we're going (that's a royal we, not me because I'm not signing any more DVC contracts) to be signing at the Mississippi River????

You are not obligated to ever leave the US, but acknowledging the existence of the rest of the world is typically viewed as a constructive thing.

I really hope that isn't the case. Not because I'm that attached to the current logo or anything, but having recently gone through a re-branding at work, I know exactly how expensive it is to replace signs, letterhead, web sites, etc.

There's nothing wrong with the current logo. Don't spend a bunch of money on something that isn't broken.

kind of funny sounding from a fella that has the new logo in his sig

Yea, but Dave works a lot cheaper than the Disney logo guys! :goodvibes

:earsboy: Bill

I like the new global logo more than the old one. It's a bit more timeless and what Disney fan doesn't gravitate towards Mickey ears? :) The monochromatic scheme of the new logo is more versatile - it looks good in a variety of colours. (I really like the green version posted on the back of the bus from the link to dvcnews.com.)

The "global idea" could mean more than just the future expansion of the resorts ... personally, I see it as a nod to Canadian and international DVC owners. :goodvibes

Like I said, I wasn't particularly attached to the old logo. My only objection was the expense of changing, and any potential for that expense to be passed to the members.

Now that it's here, I'll jump on the bandwagon.

Dave, how can I get one of those new DVC sign signatures for AKV?:worship:

Well.. I'm not obligated to trade my DVC for foreign options, but I am obligated to leave the US. That was my point.
