2 years ago I took a tour of a Marriot timeshare outside DLP, it was very nice but once the salesman heard we were DVC members he gave up on selling to me and concentrated on my friends. During the conversation he mentioned that as part of the lease or purchase of the Land(from Disney) there was a condition that no other Timeshare would be built in the vicinity.

Not to start trouble, but salesmen are known for stretching the truth, particularly when spinning a yarn that is to their benefit (i.e. convince people that no one else will build a time share at DLP so that customers will feel compelled to buy Marriott, and he makes a sale).

yes sounds a little bit like a ploy to me.

Perhaps they can renegotiate. The Marriot time share in my opinion is too far away from the DLPR anyway. I would hope for a DVC within walking distance of the action.

Having just bought a vacation home in Spain and intending to drive through France each year a nice DVC to stop at sounds great.

I would also like the idea of DVC by Barcelona before getting on the med cruise.

I can accept this ( although many of our confirmed rumors come from bus drivers or dvc sales people!) however after being told we were DVC members he realized that we wouldn't be purchasing and made no attempt to sell to us.

I doubt it. This will be a selling point to the Hawaii buyers. "You can trade to Disneyworld and Disneyland at the 7 month window". Also, it is my understanding that if they change the booking window, it must be for all resorts...but I will leave that to others to determine the accuracy of this statement.

Thanks for the post. For some reason I found this last bit amusing. I'd be worrying about the dollar collapsing vs the euro a lot more than I'd worry about a tanking European economy. I can't fathom what a European resort is going to cost in USD anytime soon.

PS - What's a Bothan (unless it's a Star Wars reference, and then I'm really confused).

Yes it is a Star Wars reference from the original movie, AKA Episode IV. "Many Bothans died to bring us this information". Bothan agents obtained detailed plans for the Death Star, revealing a weakness which allowed Luke Skywalker to destroy it.

Someone was referring to their "inside source" as a "Bothan" with this reference in mind.

As to the DVC at the Contemporary rumors I asked a good friend in upper DVC management why bus drivers, boat drivers, monorail drivers, valet, bellman, etc were all so sure that DVC is going there and yet those in upper management positions and guides are so relucant to say, one way or the other.

His reply was if it does not happen, those CMs are not in a position to be official enough to lose their jobs over it .

However someone in upper management or a guide, says Yes that is what it is going to be and it does not happen, then they could get in serious trouble.

So I asked, What Do You Know? and he said "Honestly Sammie, probably less than 5 people "truly" know what is happening there and I ain't one of them".

Humm...no castle, no rides, no characters, not much of anything Disney?

Water, Sharks, Lava, Tsunami's.....Sounds like a good place to me!!!

Just joking...I've been to Maui twice now and love it for the place it is....I don't think Disney could improve the experience much.

This reminds me of the saying every time a new Pope is selected:

"Those who are talking, don't know,
Those who know, aren't talking."

I think that's good to remember in many situations....
