I have it from a reliable source that Disney is looking to build a resort at Keystone, Colorado (Major ski area). Anyone hear about this as well?

I would be extremely surprised to find out that this is true.

It's not like there's not a lot of other time share alternatives in Keystone!

And it's not like Disney has had a lot of success in selling non-WDW DVC resorts.

Who knows? Maybe they'll change their structure to require less profitability on their non-WDW resorts and be more cost competitive in those markets.

But the way they sell DVC at WDW right now, I can't imagine why they'd want to turn over a spade of earth to begin building an off-site DVC resort.

I saw a DVC sales guy on our trip and asked "how are SSR sales going?" He said brisk (what salesman wouldnt?). So my follow-up was: Ok, what is the next resort?

He laughed and said he was not sure. I said I was on the Dis Boards and heard some rumors - he said that we have heard the same rumors as are on the boards: Contemporary and Eagle Pines.

I would love to see a ski resort added to the list. But, I agree that I am not sure it is going to happen soon.

They had two ski projects that have been cancelled. One was while Walt was alive, it was in the works just before his death if I remember correctly and involved a ski resort near Mineral King. I believe it was an interest that developed after Walt did the ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. There were a number of sites that he commissioned studies of.

The other was earlier in DVC history near Beaver Creek.

I would be surprised if they went back a third time to that effort.

I don't think so either. After a scaled back VB and the sale of their property in CA, I can't believe they would venture into off site DVC again. IMHO people buy Disney DVC primarily for Walt Disney World.

Here's what I got last Thursday. DVD announced SSR phase 3 will be Eagle Pines Villas. They will tear them down soon and build 200 more SSR rooms there.
I heard a rumor, when SSR is complete they will start Bonnet Creek, on the golf course. I have not seen this course, but it was built to accomidate a resort.
The Treehouse villas are still a consideration for SSR, they would have to refurbish them not replace, as they are on wetlands.
SSR phase 1 is 80% sold, much faster than expected, so plans are big right now. It will be exciting to see what happens.

My guide hinted at a posible take over of a garden wing at CR with a follow up at Eagle pines. Mind you they still have alot more room to build over at SSR so who really knows but they are starting to make it far more attractive to many more people by building and with just the speculation on new resorts.

I think a DVC resort in the mountains is highly unlikely unless it is a location that would draw crowds year-round, not just during ski season.

we go to summit county (i.e. keystone) every summer (and at least once in the winter)... the late spring/summer/ early fall weather is amazing, the area is beautiful and the outdoor activities are plentiful (as are the top notch restaurants/bars/shopping)... that being said there would be a enormous amount of jockeying for prime ski-week reservations... it would be a nightmare... but since we already have a house there my vote would be no for a new dvc resort there

Disneyland Paris .
They allow Marriott to promote their Disneyland Paris in the checkin hall.
I would suggest that partnerships will be the way disney may expand their offsite Dvc interests.

How can they tear down Eagle Pines villas when they haven't been built yet?

And Bonnet Creek is already under construction, but it's not owned by Disney. Am I missing something?

I would be thrilled with a western US mountain DVC -- but agree that it is unlikely. Still: I can be hopeful.

I think the issue is less that Vero sales were slow than that people do seem to use the resort now that it is available. I think DVCers would use a ski option as well. I would be very very happy to see it.

But, then, I would be happy to see a CR option as well. I wouldn't hold my breath on any option announcements before 2006, however. I think they will still have enough SSR to sell during 2005. (Although there were many eager looking customers scoping out the property while we were there last week . . .)

I believe the villas to be torn down mentioned are the DI fairway villas and SSR's phase three would go there.

The Bonnet Creek you are thinking of is the only piece of land Disney could not purchase in the tract. Fairfield is building a timeshare there and other development is planned. There is other "Bonnet Creek" that Disney does control is the Bonnet Creek Golf Club with the Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines courses on either side.

Season is too short. I don't buy it. DVC needs some year round stablity.

For many reasons I would seriously doubt this is remotely accurate. I'd be surprised if they even discussed it recently with any seriousness. Back when they were looking at expanding nationally, they had plans to build in CO. It wasn't Keystone, It may have been Vail or similar but I forget which of the big resort towns it was. I think they even had a contract on an existing hotel and things fell through. They had announced a resorst in CA then cancelled those plans and sold the land to Marriott. They also had interest in NY but that fell through as well.

It's going to get confusing with two Bonnett Creek's (not sure how they let that happen). It's true that the Osprey and Eagle Pines courses have been at the Bonnett Creek Golf Club for a long time.

I think Eagle Pines will eventually happen because it included a hotel as well. I'm sure Disney will build more hotels as they continue to expand and this could certainly be one of them. I suspect that they may go after the golfing public more vigorously and promote WDW as a golf destination. They hired Tiger Woods as a spokesperson around the time they announced the Eagle Pines plans orginally. That may have gotten put on the back burner after 9/11 and the tourism drop but I could see it as a growth area in the not too distant future.

There was no hotel, only an Inn portion of the DVC resort. I got the impression it was akin to HH.

True. The announceed plans for the DVC resort at Eagle Pines golf course did not include a hotel.

The July 19, 2001, press release about the DVC at Eagle Pines mentions, "a main Inn building encompassing a check-in area; accommodations; restaurant/lounge; theme pool with feature slide; retail space; arcade; common living room area and a health club." That does not mean that this resort is a combination hotel and timeshare like BWI/BWV. It just means the DVC resort will have a main building and villa buildings.

The artist's rendering of the DVC at Eagle Pines shows the main Inn building.

Well, it's been over two and a half years since you posted this. Is this resort open yet? :rotfl:
