New DTD Babycakes Delivery to WDW?

Their website says they use rice flour and a gar/fava flour mixture. Sorry.

BabyCakes NYC Ingredient info
What kind of flours do you use for gluten free items?
Either a garbanzo/fava bean flour mix or rice flour is used for our gluten free items.

ETA: I don't think I ever came back to this thread to post how AMAZING DD13's birthday cake was. I can't wait to try the Wonder Buns (cinnamon rolls) and other treats in August.

I just read about Babycakes NYC in DTD yesterday and was wondering the same thing. How wonderful it would be if we could order a delivery to our favorite restaurant or hotel for that matter. I would be willing to pay extra for this service. My youngest DD is allergic to eggs, peanuts and tree nuts(and we are thinking she may now be on the road to gluten allergy...ugh). Dessert for her has always been limited to Divvies cookies if the restaurant doesn't carry allergy safe ice cream. I personally think the Divvies bakery goods are kind of "eh" tasting. Very excited to hear reviews that Babycakes NYC desserts are yummy with a nice variety:goodvibes

Hopefully, with brisk sales and requests for delivery or expansion, Babycakes and Disney will see the growth potential and begin delivery OR open bakery kiosks in the parks:cool1:

I asked on their facebook page if they could deliver to one of the WDW hotels - but after a week there was still no response. So I emailed the same question and got the same lack of response. So IMHI they may have great products, but poor enough customer service that I will probably never visit :confused3

As happy as I am for the gluten-free kids, I wish they would go nut-free as well. I don't think it would be that difficult for them to eliminate the coconut and find another flour carrier that is nut free.

How weird. I asked this on facebook as well, though several months ago, and they responded pretty quickly. The response was that yes they do deliver to WDW resorts. They like about a week's notice.

Are you allergic specifically to coconut? They use coconut to avoid soy which is a much more common allergen. I suppose they could use palm oil but that's the only other option I can think of. I would think that the number of people with palm allergies would be similar to the number of people with palm allergies. It's rough when you have some less common allergens; both of my kids have some that aren't common at all so I do understand. I actually don't understand coconut being listed as a nut by the FDA since it's in a totally different plant family and I don't believe that the proteins are similar but that's a whole other discussion.

Have you read their description of the nut concerns? They state "We do not bake with nuts* or soy; however, all of our gluten free flours are processed on equipment that packages hazelnut, almond flours and soy. They power wash the machinery and discard the initial 30 pounds of flour between runs." Many (though clearly not all) people with nut allergies are ok with this degree of allergen. Obviously only you know your comfort level and degree of sensitiviy. It's very hard to find gluten free suppliers that have dedicated gluten and nut free facilities. They do exist but there aren't many.

Have you tried the Enjoy Life cookies? At least those are available around WDW.

Wow!!!!! I am super excited!!! Just started to plan our vacation for this fall and although we had a WONDERFUL experience at Disney when we took our Make A Wish trip I wished I could have had a cake for my daughter since it was when she turned 3 .... it would have been magical (I mean more Magical because It WAS MAGICAL :) ) My daughter has a dairy allergy and I make all of her treats so I am beyond tickled to know we will be able to take her to a bakery where she can choose!!! Wow...A Choice!!! Super EXCITED!!!!!

Emily- I'm sure you get told this all the time, but I hope it doesn't get old. THANK YOU!

I took my 5yr old DS on a day trip to NYC a couple months ago and we took the subway downtown after dinner just to try out your bakery. It is beyond heartwarming for a mother to take their food allergic child to a bakery and offer them anything they want. It was delicious.

I just heard this news and ran upstairs to tell my little boy that there is now a Babycakes in Disney. His face lit up and he asked if we could go when we're down there. Of couse, we'll be there adding more nose prints to the glass cases.

This is why we own DVC points!

That is so amazing! I am thrilled to hear you visited the New York store, and can't wait to see you both on your next trip to Walt Disney World! If there is anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask!

You have no idea how excited I am to hear about the addition of Babycakes to DTD!!!! We always have to say no to my DD, and I then feverishly work to recreate everything that her brother and sister get, so she doesn't feel left out! I am so excited that I can walk her into this store, and she can really have whatever she wants!!!! This may be our first stop! LOL

I didn't see anywhere that this is listed, but was curious if there are food colorings vs the natural food dyes used at this bakery?! :confused3

Hi There!

I'm so glad to hear that you'll be visiting us during your next trip! We use only natural food dyes. Our red dye is made from beet juice and citric acid, the blue is made from red cabbage, our yellow is made from turmeric, and our green from chlorophyl. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to e-mail us!

Anyone know if they have PKU low protein treats? I have a littleone who would love if she and her gluten-free brother could eat out of the "normal" people food counter instead of bring-along "speical" food.

We are RVing which makes things easier with food allergic kids.

Hello!

We have all of our ingredients listed on our website under "nutritional information."

We also have nutritional information available for select items, I hope this helps! Please note that the WDW bakery does not bake any of the spelt flour items.

Hi Frank! I've been corresponding via e-mail with someone named Frank, I truly hope it's you! I'm sorry I was unable to respond sooner, but if you have any further questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask. Again, so sorry for the delay!

Also, while I'm here, I just wanted to update everyone that the bakery is now certified kosher pareve. We are so happy to share this exciting news!

Hi Emily! Yes it is the same person & you answered everything perfectly!!! It is too bad that you cannot deliver to the resorts, but that just gives us more excuses to visit you in person

Thanks!
Frank

Anyone with peanut/nut allergies eat there? I think I'm ok with the flour being produced on the same lines as nut flours if the lines are well washed and the first 30lbs of product is thrown out.

I did read on a link to an "ingredients" page at the babycakes website that the chocolate is the same way - but it did not say anything about the flour.

Is the chocolate also "may contain" or "on the same line", etc?

I wanted to mention that on our trip in March - April 2011, one of the people with us was my adult niece who has major problems with gluten. She ate a number of things during her stay and said all were great.
Another member of our party thought the price of donuts was high, but my niece said that after 2 years of not being able to eat a donut, she would have gladly paid twice as much!

Can someone please tell me where Babycakes is located? I don't see it on the DTD map. :confused3

Babycakes is located in a corner of the Pollo Campero building (The old Mcdonalds-next to the Lego store).

There is not a sign outside the door specifically for Babycakes. But you will see the display cases when you walk in.

BabyCakes has the best chocolate chip cookies. And they had a chocolate coconut item which was heavenly. Hmmm...I can hardly wait to go back to Disney.

I am so excited to take my DD to Babycakes in November and let her pick out anything she wants! She will be thrilled not to know everything in the bakery is gluten free! We will definitely get some treats to take back to our room. Any updates on whether birthday cakes can be delivered to restaurants or resorts on Disney property, or is it still best if we make a trip to Babycakes the day before we celebrate a birthday? Any idea of the pricing for a small birthday cake?
