Disbug and madge, have a great trip! I can't wait to hear all about your adventures. In particular madge, please let me know how EMH works out for you on Sunday (saw this on another thread).

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'll see you on the flip side! TTFN!

Mouseteacher~I don't know how you find the time to keep up with this site and be a principal! I can barely jump in from time to time and I'm just a teacher. What's your secret?

Disbug and Madge~Can't wait to read all about your trip.

Happy weekend, everyone!

jmcross~ ;) being a principal IS the secret. Depending on the day, I take a quiet lunch by myself in my office and check in on the DIS. Many days, after everyone has left the building except the custodians, I DIS before leaving for home. There are some mornings b/c I arrive very early, I can catch a minute to log on. If you notice, my daytime posts if I am able to post tend to be very short b/c I am at school. Remember, I don't have students around me in my office like you do in your classroom. :D

Lou~ I finally am receiving e mail notifications - so I am subscribed!

Disbug~ , my dear friend, I wish you a wonderful trip and wish I was there with you like last July. :) On the balcony room - DH and I really wanted a balcony, too, when there in July. I did all the prerequiste stuff on asking for a comp upgrade. Upon check-in, the CM was going to give us the standard room non-smoking that we reserved - she was reading from the computer screen -- thought I!!! Then, I took the plunge and had to ask for the balcony room face-to-face --- might scary for me. If you remember my posts, not only did she give us the balcony but it was a Jr. Suite. So--- ask at check-in and I am sending PD your way and to the front desk that your wish comes true.

DF~ I was in a line of traffic yesterday morning and in front of me was new black beetle (VW not an insect LOL). You and your DD popped into my mind and I smiled!

Happy Saturday! :Pinkbounc House cleaning day. :(

I know you can book the teachers discount on line, but if you prefer to talk to a live body, what's the number to call? I've seen two or more listed 888-828-8850 and 888-625-4988.
I just registered for the Starwoods Preferred Guest program, but I don't have any points yet.

We are thinking of trying the Swan for 2 nights before our stay at the YC.

My my you all have been busy little bees...gone a day and there are 4 pages of reading...

DD update seems to be doing much better...no diagnosis yet...fatigue and headaches seem to be the worst of it now...abdominal pains have subsisded...thanks for all the wonderful support..

Madge Hope your are having a wonderful time..had a busy friday and didn't get to checkin.. Glad the DVD player came in time..

Miffy Just checked out the Miffy site very interesting

#1 Hockeymom I don't teach but I also struggle with the "adultness" of kids in the "real" world...my kids live a very sheltered life...compared to the rest of kids there age...I'm sure it will change but i do enjoy there naivety.

If you haven't gotten the links yet I will PM you..

What great news for your dd...you must be very proud...I wish her tons of luck next week..

DF Your dd must be getting her car today ...how very exciting...and I love the green color...my neices dh has it and it is awesome...

jgatesWe live in the LYME CAPITAL OF THE EAST.....I'm very aware of the awful disaase...she was tested for it and because they she was on antibotics for over 15 days they think it probably can't be lymes..

I'll add you to the PM list about soap opera..

loubonLOL!! great picture...I'm I in the year book by chance?? such a great idea..

Disbug Congrats on the Gold...YIPPEE Have a wonderful trip...

Zurg is testing a new voice recognition software on the computer...he is loving it....we are getting it for DS 11 he is very dyslexic and this will help with his written assignments....It's amazing what a few changes that seem minor can have such an affect on a childs life....Last year was horrible...but this year with a teacher that is willing to go the extra yard, having introduced him to books on tape (we joined the blind/dyslexic foundation) so he listens to his school assignments...and he has a scribe at school to take tests or do lengthy assignments...A different child...

/
Did someone say 'soap opera'? Z...please, do tell! Link us...we all have inquiring minds!

z... so glad about your DD that she is on the road to recovery.
It does make such a difference to have a teacher willing to support a child with a different learning style (aka learning disability - I prefer learning style). My DS (a senior) has been on an IEP since 2nd grade. We have been so lucky through the years to have had caring, supportive teachers. DS's self-worth never took a downward turn nor was he ever discouraged since some areas are very hard for him especially writing. He has been very successful in school with good grades. He graduates this year and we are looking for a college that will be a good fit for him.

Soap opera = CB ;)

Yes you are! Page 104 (you're not keeping up with the program!)

:p

Also just added cindala.....

I'm going to miss you all! If I can befriend someone with a link to the internet I will do my best to post. Otherwise, I will take very good notes! :p

Any last requests for 'Resort snooping' make em quick before I head out!

Lou, will find what you asked for at DTD. Wish you were.... oops, never mind! ;)

Yes, i am still alive!!!

I have no idea how you all manage to keep on writing- seems this year has really kept me too busy to even get online for a few minutes. Did manage to read about 30 new pages tonight - so much has been happening.
DF - love the description of your daughter's new car- want to see the picture. My husband's first car was a bug back in the 60's! Gosh, that does date both of us!!! lol

Mouseteacher- what a Red Sox game the other night- we are big supporters- they will win the AL pennant this year - the power of positive thinking!!

#1 HM - sounds like the 5th graders are really challenging you - look at it this way, they are with me in 6th this year- have a few "interesting" kids in my classes. But life would be boring if they were all too perfect!! lol

Zurg- glad to hear your daughter is on the mend!

MomPoppins- my condolences to your friend's family on the loss of their child. It is one of life's saddest things- to have a child die before the parents .

To everyone else - either welcome or nice to drop back in for a visit. Have begun making plans for our March trip to Disney with my students. Will keep in touch from time to time. Take care. Caroline

Hi Caroline...good to hear from you.

ww52....well, congratulations. (choke, choke!) Here's to Albert Pujols being MVP! Hope you had a good time in Bahston. Here's to you and Lauren:

DO NOT LET this stop your child from attaining GREATNESS. My daughter has dyxlexia and is a 2nd grade School Teacher. She gets excellent reviews and is asked to handle the more challenged children. She is now attending school for her MASTERS at night. She also graduated college (CUA) Suma Cum Laude and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Just giving you this to let you know the sky is the limit. Oh yes and she was the Captain (3yrs) of her college team. Also was the first 100 game starter. She started every game of her college career. She also was a 1,000 pt scorer. Sorry, if this is long but I just want you to know all is possible.
The books on tape will make life much easier for your child and make sure when National Testing comes that people are aware of the situation. Good Luck, if you want any more info let me know

Good morning to everyone. Caroline, so good to hear from you. And, yes, Red Sox nation is very excited! My DSs are such avid sports fans. Younger DS aspire to be a sports writer / commentator.

Bobump, you are so right about the fact that all children can learn and be successful in school and in life if given the right teachers and programs. Your DD is proof of that theory.

LOL, I, too, remember the VW beetle from the late 60's. One of my friends had one and we all thought it was way cool. I guess that dates me, too! :D

Happy Sunday, S/D sorority members!

PS - Disbug and madge - we are with you in spirit- go forth and make merry! :)

Disbug - Thanks for your answers to my Dolphin questions. I know you're in the World right now, but I wanted to post my appreciation anyhow. Hopefully you'll see this when you get back. I hope you are having an absolutely magical time, and I look forward to hearing about your trip when you get back.

Loubon - Thanks for the class picture. I love it! It's so nice of you to take the time to go out on the internet and find just the right picture for each of us. Thanks!

kaycee~ I want to welcome you to this humble thread. As you already experienced through Disbug, there are wonderful people here all willing to help each other with our WDW trips and S/D stays be even more magical!

If I can be of any additional help, don't hesitate to ask. :D

Good Morning. Sorry I have not had the time to read all the posts before posting this am. Yesterday was an incredible day in our lives. We drove to L.A. To purchase DD's car. Everything went smoothly, with her car being all ready (PERFECT) for our arrival. We all drove away together...like in a dream. Initially, I drove the Beetle with DD seated next to me in the front passenger position. We all stopped for some BaJa Fresh lunch near Magic Mountain, and switched vehicles.

I was behind the wheel of our Truck, following DD & DH as they drove the busy L.A. freeways towards home. The sun was slowly setting, casting rays of fading sunshine across the side of her little green transport. Somewhere, along the 405/101 the song "I hope you dance" came on the radio. I began to cry (okay...sob), as I listened to the words. It was just so odd, driving "behind" our 16 YO DD, as she drove along with her daddy in HER car. My mind refused to empty the "picture" of the photo I have of her at age "1", Driving my Vette. She was actually standing in the seat and holding onto the steering wheel (as the car was parked in our driveway) She was "beaming" from ear to ear....and appeared to be "driving". Where did those 15 years go?

We rounded a large bend in the four-lane highway, and I could clearly see her vibrant SMILE in both mirrors (rear-view/her side) as she chatted away with her dad. Suddenly, my attention was diverted to the right of them, as I noticed a big Dual-wheeled truck pulling a huge 25-foot gleaming yacht on a trailer. This vehicle was in lane three...and a SEMI was in lane four (the Slow lane). I was in lane 2, following DH & DD, and lane 1 (thank you, Lord) was vacant. Immediately, I had a "bad" feeling, and fixated on the trailer of the yacht. It was "bouncing" around literally "fishtailing", and he seemed to be losing control of it at the 75-80 MPH he was traveling. Yet...the driver seemed oblivious to the events unfolding, and continued his path/pace.

I began to PRAY outloud for DD to pass him, so I could place my Truck in Harms-way, in case anything tragic occurred. If I were behind her, yet in front of the Yacht...when it snapped it would hit the rear of my vehicle as opposed to slamming into hers. I braced myself for the impact. Yet...he only seemed to slow momentarily, as DD's beetle passed his set-up. I thanked God, and quickly followed. As I was directly adjacent to him, passing, he glanced over at me...then sped AHEAD of me towards DD & DH. At this moment, I fell-in behind him without concern for myself, to get NEXT to DD & DH to alert them of the danger in their midst. From their position...it was too difficult to notice. But, DH saw it...as soon as I approached to their left- next to them. He looked at me and grimmaced, motioning me to SLOW and STAY BACK. Actually, he was "telling" me these things out the open window...without having to yell. It is peculiar, as I look back, at how crystal clear and concise his voice/words seemed to be. It was as if he was talking, almost whispering, directly into my ear. But in reality there was a loud/rushing highway between us.

The entire Trailer and Yacht "Jackknifed" in front of our eyes. As the Trailer was screaming sideways, pushing the truck in an odd position, it seeming snapped...hurling both the Yacht and the trailer onto the roadway ahead of us. The Yacht SLID along the highway on it's side, and the truck was propelled in the opposite direction...over an embankment.

The Semi had locked-it-up to avoid the truck/yacht, and was on the side of the road at an odd angle. We drove carefully and slowly over the debris, before pulling safely to the side of the road. I ran to DD's car to comfort her. Shaken and on the verge of tears, she calmly recounted what she witnessed, as DH ran to assess the condition of the truck occupants. After calling an ambulance and CHP, he returned to our vehicles. The occupants were unsettled, but okay (by outward accounts).

I was stunned and in shock by the events, and even more surprised with the calm and cool manner in which our daughter handled the melee. It was extremely traumatic and surreal, like something from a movie (or earthquake @ U.S., where the TANKER slides towards the tram). Seeing the monolith of a yacht...hurled like a toy onto the roadway..sliding and scraping...(huges pieces breaking off and flying around), on it's side had me numb. My husband whispered to me this episode aged him another 30-40 years.

As we all presumed our travels, I spoke with GOD, and offered my gratitude. I knew there were some powerful ANGELS watching over us during that moment, with the Good Lord delegating their actions. So, on this day, the Sabbath, please be sure to say an extra prayer and give thanks to all the "blessings" in your lives. We are all linked together here on this thread, through our desires, dreams and experiences. I hope this one will be recounted to your loved ones as a "reminder" of the perils of the roadway/life which can occur suddenly and without warning. Perhaps it will make everyone a bit more "conscientious" of the dangers we face on a daily basis. Even though most all of these situations are in the hands of a higher power, many can be averted with simple awareness.

Thank you, for listening to me. I'm still "rattled" by the scenes of this accident replaying in my head. I'm still amazed it did not cause a pile-up with all the Semi's/travelers following closely at such high speeds. The hand of God was clearly visible for a moment yesterday, on a stretch of highway in Southern California. God Bless each and every one of you.

XO Always, Lisa

P.S. On Topic....be sure to closely monitor your speeds while driving in and around the WDW Dolphin on Disney Property. The rules of the road are strictly enforced, and the speeds clearly posted are a lot lower than most drivers seem to notice. This past summer we noticed more persons receiving citations than in recent memory. So, please...drive cautiously and slowly while in the MAGIC...to insure GOOD memories which last a lifetime. ;)

Dreamflight99 - Even though I just started posting on this thread, I feel like I know you and your family from the wonderful posts I've read over the past few weeks while I was lurking, and from your delightful visits to Kimmar and the rest of us on the WL board when I was planning my WL trip last year. So when I read your account of yesterday's terrifying events, I had chills up and down my spine. You are precious to many people here, and I know how dear your family is to you. I am so thankful you are all okay!!

Mouseteacher - Thanks for the warm welcome. You are among the wonderful people here whom I feel like I have gotten to know while reading on this thread. I look forward to reading many more of your posts over the next months as I plan our trip to the Dolphin.

DF......wow.......teary-eyed here, just reading your post. Thank God, is right. This is the second close call in a couple weeks(HM1's dd too) No matter how responsible our kids are and how well they drive, it is always the 'other drivers' we worry about. You can't impress this enough on your kids. That you really have to be AWARE and AWAKE and know what is going on around you, to drive our crowded highways. Glad you are all okay. I would still be shaking too.
