NEW...DOLPHIN/SWAN..."questions and answers"...tips and hints!

Hi All, I know many of you visit IOA and Universal along with WDW during your stays at S/D. Which leads to my question! Is anyone else scared of the Hulk and Dueling Dragons? DH goes on with DD but I have not gone yet! I go on all the rides at WDW, TOT, Space, RRC, all of them but I am scared of the Hulk and Dueling Dragons! This year I have promised to go with them and I'm wondering how bad is it? Any other S/D fans scared of these 2 coasters?

Muffy

mouseteacher--not soon enough! we are going in 5 weeks-but how i wish i were there now--have you had enough of the rain yet? seems we're having another of those years with no spring and we'll jump right into the summer--

enjoy reading all these posts and appreciate the help and advice--am going to fill out the dolphin room request and keep my fingers crossed thanks again all!

I justed got to the last page in this forum. Thanks for all the valuable info. We stayed at the dolphin years ago, but I can't seem to remember to much. We are staying at the dolphin again this year, standard room. Does anyone have any suggestions where would be good to stay - floor or view? I also was wondering what floor they are up to with renovations? I will also try to get a comp upgrade. Thanks to disboards last year we got a beautiful lake view with balcony at the YC. I never asked for an upgrade before. I could use any information possible regarding the dolpin or any other site I could go on.
Thank you :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Well, I finally got my paperwork back from my insurance company about my doctor bills from my bad illness a week or so ago and it really wasn't all that bad :D .

Out of $1182 worth if services, I only have to pay 131.16 plus my $100 deductable = 231.16 :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: .

This is better than what I could have dreamed of.

I am so glad that I didn't get rid of my Swan reservation.

Thanks for everones support, well wishes and advice about my trip.

Thanks,

needabreak~ I am SICK and TIRED of the rain. It's here today and here tomorrow, too! We're about 6 weeks away from our Swan visit and I'm ready for some heat and I'll take the humidity, too. :p

Hi Muffy ~
I will have to ask you how is the Rock n Roll Coaster? We'll be at the Swan in 18 days & I have not yet decided if this coaster is a "go" for me.....

While @IOA two years ago, I waited until the very last day of our vacation to ride the Hulk. It was my 40th birthday & I was bound and determined to try it. (Besides that, my entire family DH, DS16 & DS14 pretty much shamed me into it).

So, nervous as a cat, I got on the Hulk w/DH.

Whatever you do, do not close your eyes! I was sooo scared that I closed mine and I think that contributed to me being nauseous for the rest of the day!! I'm talking I had to leave, go back to the hotel, and lie down! (What a wimp I am).

I never got up enough courage to try Dueling Dragons.

So, now that I've shared my experience w/Hulk, how did you like the RnR at Disney?

It's a rainy, drab, soaking WET day here also!!! Can't wait for some sunshine! :smooth:

Working4vacation, RnR is alot of fun and a "nice" coaster. I am not at all scared of the rides at WDW and never get sick on rides. There is just something scarey about the Hulk and Dueling Dragons. I really think it is because it is exposed and outdoors. You can watch it go by and hear the screams. I'm going to do it though! I'm sorry to hear it made you sick! I will remember that tip about keeping eyes open! Thanks!

I used to LOVE all the coasters(and still do) except I don't take them as well as I used to. I still go on them though. RnR is great.....the Hulk is awesome(just made me a bit weak when getting off)....Dueling Dragons is for the younger set! I tried it the last two times we were at IOA and I just can't take it. Leaves me dizzy. We tried both Dragons and there was no difference. I don't have a problem with TOT or Dr. Doom. TOT is my absolute FAVORITE.
I can't imagine closing your eyes....that would put in space somewhere!
Jason...so glad all is well and you can still go to the Swan.

:p I can't wait to see some of pictures. Thanks in advance for your willingness to share - how about some trip reports.
Thanks Mouseteacher - you and DF must have been neighbors! Photos are coming up.

Df, so true...drop the A and add the R - LOL. Loved your additions to the Beantown banter.

We do fly out of Logan to Bermuda! There are several airlines that have non-stops now - - A/A, Delta & USAirways (not sure of the others). Glad you found the Fairmont info useful. If you haven't checked out their website yet, you'll see that there are several in California too: Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, Fairmont SF, Fairmont San Jose and the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa (Resort). Not too mention The Plaza in NY, two in Barbados and two in Acapulco. Hope you get to sneak off to one with that suite upgrade certificate. Also included in the package they sent us were room upgrade and third night free certificates!

Disnurse, I believe the Sheraton Boston was recently renovated and speaking of catching a Sox game, I understand the visiting major league teams stay in this hotel...very close to Fenway. There's also a great Westin in Copley Sq. (think somebody on this thread may have stayed there last summer)???

Thanks Ozzie...yes, Anthony's Pier 4 is still there, although Anthony retired a few years ago, his sons now run the place. Love the popovers there. Don't worry about dating yourself, I'm right there with you. ;)

#1hockeymom: Hope we didn't create a monster here. There'll always be Boston (Bogie speak - LOL), so GO for the Swan/Dolphin - much warmer, much less rain and much more MAGIC!

ww52: glad you enjoyed your sojourn to the "Hub," as we call it. Chicago is definately one of my favorite cities and the Cubbies, my second favorite ballclub. I would re-mortgage (LOL) to see the Cubs & Sox at Fenway :). Speaking of "Chicago" (the band) that is, we're going to see them next Friday at the Fleet Pavillion. Do you know any of the old boys from DePaul? How 'bout Demon Dogs? Is the CTA still trying to move this landmark?

We also took the Bermuda cruise from Boston a few years back with our neighbors and had a blast. NCL could stand to put a newer ship out here, but is was fun nonetheless. Did you also dock at St. Georges and walk up to Tobacco Bay for some snorkeling?

Scoob: Have a ball and enjoy every minute of your vacation!

Needabreak (love that name): welcome aboard!

Great news Jaw - always a nice surprise! How handy those benefits are when we really need them!

Congrats to our expecting mothers too! Mompoppins, good luck next week - - eager to her the news!

I found what DF posted about E ride night, but I have one question about it.....
Can you purchase your ticket anytime during your stay, or only the day of the e ride night?

E-Ride Tickets
E-Ride Nights are an exclusive "private party" in the Magic Kingdom for a limited number of Walt Disney World Resort Guests with Multi-Day Passes.

Current E-Ride Nights can be found on the park hours page.

During an E-Ride Night, 9 of the most popular attractions are open to ride as often as you like including Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Alien Encounter, Astro Orbiter, Tomorrowland Transit Authority and Country Bear Jamboree. Of course, selected gift shops and food/beverage establishments are open as well.

What you do.... Purchase a ticket at Guest Services at your resort. Exchange your ticket for a E-Nights wristband at any of the following Magic Kingdom locations any time after 4pm on the day of the E-Ride Night: City Hall, Tomorrowland Arcade and Splashdown Photo.

The E-Ride Night runs for 3 hours after scheduled closing of the Magic Kingdom. Only guests with E-Ride Night wrist bands will be allowed in the park at this time.

Adults: $12.00 + tax
Children 3 to 9: $10.00 + tax

Tickets are available at the Guest Services Desk at any Disney Resort on a first-come, first-served basis. You MUST show Disney Resort ID and Multi-Day ticket (Length of Stay, All-In-One Hopper, Park-Hopper, Seasonal Pass, Annual Pass and Premium Annual) at time of purchase. Disney says that tickets are limited and it is advisable to purchase early.

Tickets to the E-Ride Night must be used in conjunction with a same day Multi-Day Ticket admission to any Disney Theme Park. Disney Resort Guests, Hotel Plaza Blvd. Guests, Swan, Dolphin and Shades of Green Guests with multi-day passes are eligible to purchase E-Ride Night tickets.

Great pictures of PBH - your suite looked magnificent! The cabana looks like the "lap of luxury"! Way to go. :bounce:

I am roller coaster wimp! I did Space Mountain about 20 years ago and when I got off I vowed I would never get on again... and I never have. I can manage BTM, SM and TT - that's about it - RnRC, ToT are out of the question. I figure why make myself scared silly and/or sick - I'm on vacation. ;)

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions to make our trip extra special for my DD!

This thread is sweet, and informational!

DF~ You are getting close to your trip!! I often feel the same way you do about DD- I enjoy each age, but can't help feeling sad about time flying so quickly!!
I assume she is your only special gift as well? We had trouble getting our DD, and the same infertility tx that worked to get her didn't work again, and we were unwilling to move on to stronger meds/ treatments because we knew we didn't want multiples.
I am always curious to see how others with ONLY's feel.. my DD is thrilled to be the princess, but I sometimes worry about how she'll feel later in life. I get grief from my grandmother and others at times for not giving her a sibling, but I always say, if it was good enough for Jesus, then it is certainly good enough for my DD!! I believe God knows what he is doing!

Hockeymom: We are in Chesterfield- I admire you working with the inner city kids~ they need you and your expectations to help the succeed!

We are having our first nice day in a while, supposed to rain for the next few, better get out and enjoy it!

Thanks for your kind words - we are nice bunch here on the S/D thread. Always a kind word or support or sharing ideas and just ahving fun. Welcome aboard.

Just watched the end of the game...feel sorry for the devils. I'm not a fan of either...but, with the DUCKS being kind of "Disney-ish" (movies, etc.). I feel happy for them. ;)

Muffy...LOL. I go on all of these too. The HULK is CRAZY-WILD, and takes off like a ROCKET! (Like Rockin' Roller Coaster @ MGM). I must agree with "workin4vacation", DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES! I think you will be fine. I visit Magic Mountain during the year...where the rides are EXTREME. These two are tame in comparison. ;) *Have you been on the TOT? Kept your EYES open the entire time? Sat in the front row?

jaw62901...That's GREAT NEWS, Jason. :) I'm Thrilled you never cancelled those ressies. Now, you'll be in pure luxury at the SWAN. I hope this post finds you feeling 100% Better! Take care, and keep planning. ;)

Happytrails...Ever heard of a "french horn" pastry? No one seems to know what they are out here (LOL). Thanks for all the Great pics. Yep...Sir, that's my BABY (OUR SUITE!). We'll be there in no time flat. How was the internet service? High speed BB access?

ozziewags...Anytime (past the most recent date). Most of these are scheduled on Tuesday & Friday eves. So, Tuesday's will be ready for sale as soon as Sat. Morning arrives. If at ALL POSSIBLE, skip the Friday eve, and opt for Tuesday. We have done them all...for years and years. Tuesday usually has about 1/3-1/2 less patrons than Friday (for obvious reasons). Just a little tip/hint. ;)

Mouseteacher...You are underestimating your limitations! :p You seem so much more tenacious than you credit yourself. If Ole' "DF" was with you...I'll bet we could do one of those "off-limits" attractions (LOL...JK). My DS is the same way, and I can usually "persuade" her to try it with me. Yet, after one such encounter resulted in an "imbalance in her neuro-fluids" (she was POSITIVE!), and a "killer headache", I do not try to influence her any more. I felt terrible for her. She recovered, after some Excedrine, hydration and a relaxing bed in the dark A/C of the suite. I suggested possibly dehydration contributed to the malady...but she would not concede. I'm lucky she'll still accompany me to a theme park once in a while!

disfanRN...Happy to have you here with us! What kind words about our thread. The persons visiting here are the NICEST you'll find anywhere. Yes, DD is our "only" child. ;) It wasn't "planned" this way...just seemed to work over time. I'm happy to read your DD is also an only child ( and seemingly well-adjusted :) ). DD is contented as well, and enjoys our company tremendously (Vice-Versa). We are very young at heart (can you tell?), and enjoy Life to the Fullest. She reflects similar character traits, and exudes a natural zeal for Fun/Adventure. Thank goodness, no one in either family has ever given us grief over our decision. Both DH and I come from large families (4-6 sibs).

We still toss around the "idea" of another sibling...and have NOT ruled the idea out of our lives. I consider myself to be a very vibrant and youthful woman (LOL), open to the idea of another addition. But, as you stated in your posts...it's in the hands of God. I LOVE the quip in reference to Jesus (If it was Good enough for him!). I had a wonderful laugh today with DD in the yard. We were picking up branches and trimmings from the roses, trees, etc. She called it "menial" work, and said it was terribly hot/tiring. I reminded her...no matter WHAT the task, always give it your BEST! I added, Jesus was a carpenter. She replied, "Yes, he built things. He never cleaned the debris around Jerusalum!" (LOL). We both laughed, and agreed about the philosophy I was attempting to get across. Children are a pure delight, and a true blessing.

*I must add this strange paradox/phenom which seems to occur as the parents of an only child. People always ASK us if we are taking DD with us on our sojourns? They act surprised when we offer our answer to their absurd query. This has ALWAYS puzzled me. I have been clueless as to, "HOW" they ever obtain any such idea? We have never left her home. She accompanies us to most ALL destinations, and is a seasoned traveler with her own passport. She has been dining in fine restaurants, and resting in suites since she was a baby. She has always behaved accordingly, with manners and grace.

I just find it hard to fathom anyone would presume we would leave her behind. Especially, in the midst of the most MAGICAL/HAPPIEST place on Earth! It's as if they believe an "only child" would be so easy to ditch. I have come to this conclusion after some "firing back" (of recent). I asked one of these persons if they would leave their children behind on their trip to Spain each summer. They answered, "well, we have four children. It would not be easy to find someplace for all of them to stay. So, we have to bring them. Besides, we visit family, and they want to see the children." Well, we stop by and see my brother in Melbourne beach (he usually comes to VERO for a day), and also family farther south. Is one child "less significant" than four? LOL....of course not. Just thought you may find this interesting. ;)

HAPPY SATURDAY! :smooth:

have to laugh--we were talking about wdw rides today! every time i go to wdw, i go on space mountain and swear i will neeever do it again--told the kids today i will absolutely not do it this time and i really mean it! they think they will shame me into it! well it aint happenin! after seeing the posts on ioa --hulk and dueling dragons-=that aint happenin either! on another note-have been thrilled to see all the nice things about portofino bay-we're starting there then onto the dolphin! this vacation is just not coming soon enough!

Hi guys, sorry to have disappeared again for a few days.....Sharing the PC with the college student home for the summer cuts down my surfing time.

I have decided to 'run away from home' next week. I think I will take DD & my mom and head to St Louis/St Charles. Ozziewag-s I'm headed for the home of those Cardinals! Thinking of 3 nites in StL and 2 in StCharles (MO). Usually we stay in the Fairfield Inn in Fairview Heights IL (about 7 miles east of the Arch) and the Red Roof or somewhere else bargain rate in St Charles.

What do you think? Try for something SPG? ANY SUGGESTIONS? Since this was last minute and unplanned, it will be a credit card vacation (yuch!) so help me with some bargains here...... I can hook the Hampton Inn in St Charles for around $67 Expedia/Sams Club rates. I don't know if I can match much else to that. It's not a heavenly bed but it's cheap.......(Course the Motel 6 is even cheaper but I'm not going there this time......)

I will also wish Mom P BEST WISHES - I will probably not be online until after the baby is born once we leave. SENDING YOU A HUG!!! (And Athena-!!!! I guessed right!!!)

DF ~ I am roller coaster challenged and have been since a child! It was my best friend who shamed me on Space those many years ago (when it was much faster than today) and when I got off my hair was standing straight up!!! And despite what she did to me (LOL), we are still best friends today - 33 years and counting! :) We still laugh about it when we reminise about Disney.

Why, oh, why would it be any different having one child or a gazillion! We have 2 and we are a FAMILY thus being together is important. Sounds as if that family with 4 would really prefer to travel w/o children if they could. I suppose it's all a matter of priorities or the way you see the meaning of children and family in your life. Having your children with you lasts for such a short time - the years zoom by. DH and I are feeling that for the first time - DS (20) is really a young adult and on is own most of the time (living on campus) and DS (18) is right behind him. They both chose to remain home for this trip and that's okay - it's their decision. DH and I are quickly moving into the world of empty-nesters. So, savor each moment your DD is with you which I know you do for children grow up in the blink of an eye! :)

DF and Mouseteacher......I am right there with you in taking family vacations. They leave all too soon and the memories you can make together last a lifetime. I get the same response sometimes when we take our 'young adult' children with us.....they still love it, so why not? I also get that response when we go to disney so often! "You're going there again?" I don't have to tell you guys about that.....or you wouldn't be here right now!

jgates.......I understand the computer time issue when college kids are home! But I am so glad you are coming to our 'neck of the woods'. St. Charles is a real treat. I assume you will be taking in 'Main Street'? As far as hotels go.....do you have an entertainment card? Fairview Heights is fine.....there is a new Sheraton there. Just opened. You might call, and see if any specials or use some points and cash. You might even try to do that in St. Louis. There are also some motels (all the chains)in Collinsville, which is just as close as Fairview. I will try and do some checking for you in the next couple of days. When are you leaving? I will be in touch!
If you can....try to get up to "The Hill" for some excellent Italian food at either Zia's or Cunetto's.

I am leaving June 16 for disney and Key West with dd, if dd doesn't have to stay for a job interview. If she does, we will just go later in the summer, unless she gets the job! Things get so complicated! She has that love of travel like we do, and dh can't get away this summer.....so some girl time together.
