DF, beautiful pictures! They really captured the feel of the Dolphin and Boardwalk area. The excutive suite looks like a true home away from home! I really had a strong longing in my heart when I saw your pic of the Jr. Suite! We had the best week there. Thanks!

It's the "little" things...which keep us all connected. Our love for ALL THINGS "Dolphin/Swan & WDW"...(which most in society at large cannot fathom) is the very "bond" we all share! LOL. :p Years...upon years...of memories. Precious and everlasting, till the flame of life is extinguished. Thank you, again...Walt. ;)

OK, I have decided that I WILL give my left arm for that junior suite!! Do you think they'll take it at the Swan/Dolphin? It is beautiful, but even with DH's govt discount, it's still out of reach for us.
The exec. suite is a real dream, DF!! Thanks for posting those gorgeous pix, can't wait to go!

P.S., we don't have a doggie, so no pix to post, will my DS's ant farm do:D ?

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just noticed I have hit the 300 posts! WOW, I am addicted. In the words of DF "Thanks, Walt" and thanks to the DIS for a great place to hang out and be with friends who are Disney fanatics.

I have the BUG too! Mouseteacher...LOL! I'm addicted to this site, and begin/end my day with a PEEK & POST! :p Ditto!

kathmzh...WHERE'S THE ANT FARM? I love those things...would LOVE to see the pic! Glad you enjoyed the pics of the suites. Not sure if the Dolphin/Swan would accept your left arm (it's worth a try...LOL!) :p I so enjoy the Exec suite every summer. It was difficult getting DD to switch from a deluxe room, to a Jr. Ste, then to the Exec. suite (she's VERY sentimental, and enjoys returning to the SAME room each year), but she loves the Exec. suite now! For as long as we stay...it's the ONLY way to go. We get the FULL-SETUP, with a Fridge, microwave, etc. Oh...life while there is definitely HEAVEN! ;) Hey, maybe you could try for an "upgrade" to the Jr. Suite...it never hurts to ask! :)

Dreamflight-

You mentioned in your post to Ashley that all CL rooms at the Swan have heavenly beds. Does that mean they have been renovated with the new decor???

I called the Swan reservation desk and few weeks ago and asked if the 11th and 12th floors had been "re-done" yet and was told NO.

We are leaving on Sunday for a quick 5 day get-away and will upgrade to Club Level with Starwood points (as we have done in the past and been absolutely thrilled with the perks and the service - Mama T is fantastic!!).

I know you can have CL benefits no matter where you stay in the hotel, so our big family debate has been whether we should ask for a renovated room on one of the lower floors or ask for a room on the 11th or 12th floor. Last summer we were on the 11th floor and liked the location very much - but we would also like to try a renovated room.

Naturally if the CL floors are renovated that would be our first choice.

So, does anyone know if the CL Swan rooms are "all new and pretty??"

Thanks - oh, and thanks to everyone for ALL of the great pictures you have posted. They really put a smile on my face!

Hey, DF....great pics. You are getting to be an expert.

Deadend.......I do not think that CL floors are renovated yet. I read on a thread here somewhere that all the wings are now renovated. We were there at Christmas and they were NOT done. Still enjoyed our CL room.

Ok, post the ant farm. Can't wait.

Hi Dreamflight99. Where did you get the fridge and microwave? I have never seen any microwaves in the suites. Do you bring your own? Do you have to pay extra for the 2 bedroom suite. My MIL is a platinum spg and she gets a complimentary upgrqde to a junior suite, but was never given a 2 bedroom suite.

Thanks, Ozziewags for the info on Swan Club Level renovations. I didn't think they were completed just yet, but I guess we'll find out for certain on Sunday. I was told it actually doesn't take that long to "switch out" the rooms, but it is done on a rather slow schedule, so it will take awhile before the entire hotel is done.

I just got off the phone with Starwood to secure our Club Level upgrade, using points, and I wanted to caution everyone to make sure BEFORE they call that they know as much as possible about the Starwood system - especially how many points any sort of upgrade should cost.

I spoke with a very nice young woman, who was pleasant and helpful, but clearly didn't know what she was doing. We had made our reservations thru Dreams (to get the gov discount) so I knew this transaction would be a little complicated, especially if you had never done one before - and clearly this person had not. Thankfully, I had upgraded with points on a Dreams reservation before, so I knew it could be done - and I told her that.

After being placed on hold, the Starwood rep eventually figured out what she needed to do. She came back on the line, told me it would be 1,000 points per night, then said she had to have someone else make the change, so I was put back on hold again.

When she returned all was set - BUT she told me she had given me the wrong information and it was now 1,500 points per night!

Thanks to this board - and the Starwood site - I knew that was wrong. I asked when the points had been raised - she told me in January. I then explained that the cost had been 750 per night last year and raised to 1,000 points in 2003 - as per the information on the website. The 1,500 points per night was for an upgrade to a better view and that was not what I was requesting.

Back on hold for me -with the loudest "on hold" music blaring in my ear <G>. It was a long wait - but when she returned I was told that yes, I had been correct, it was only 1,000 points per night and my reservation was fixed.

Before I got off the phone I asked for an email confirmation of the change. Again, this was something I had learned last year and since this transaction hadn't gone as smoothly as I had hoped, I wanted to make sure I had some documentation.

I think later today I'm going to call the Swan directly, just to make certain all is set.

Cant' imagine how my family will react if we arrive at the hotel - and don't have a room!!!!

Dead End Kid

deadendkid........you are dead right. Make sure you know what is going on before you call. I had them fax me my eservation, requests and my deposit before I left. Be sure to fill us in on everything when you return........have a wonderful trip.

Where is the ant farm?

Ozzie, you're too funny. I must confess that I am a computer moron, and don't know how to post pics, so you will have to use your imagination when it comes to my DS's lovely ant farm...my biggest fear is that it will somehow break and we have ants all over the house.
I like your tips, Ozzie and Deadendkid, about getting things in writing via fax/email when talking to SPG people and the hotel....I find that no two people tell me the same thing twice!

I recently phoned the Swan, and was informed all (in fact they stated ONLY) the CL rooms were renovated with the new decor/heavenly beds. LOL...just as we know....NO TWO PEOPLE offer the same information. Obviously....persons recently staying there have reported differently. So, ASK for a renovated room on CL. I'm sure they have a few up there, and they should accomodate persons based upon a first-come, first-serve basis. Good luck & please let me know what they tell you about these renovations. :p

ddawg....We always BUY a fridge and microwave upon arrival, and at the end of the stay we "donate" both items to a local charity (or the Bellman--if they ask for the items). It's MUCH more feasible than renting, and more convenient. We have to pay for the Exec. suite, and the 2 BR is more than the 1 BR. The only Free upgrade is to a Jr. Suite, so this is why your MIL w/plat SPG does not receive the exec. suite. We pay for a discounted rate (50%AP/ENT. rate) for the Exec. suite. ;)

So glad you worked out all the particulars on the phone, Deadednkid...whew--it would be terrible to arrive and go through this at the desk (fiasco!). I look forward to your report of your stay, and the picture of the ant farm (someday...when you learn to post these, and sooner or later...we all do (moi, too!).
;)

All right, everyone, I got a reply to my very tentative request for an upgrade if possible for our trip F3b 14-17 (Swan). They wrote back and asked for my Starwood Preferred Guest #-and that was all!! After reading on the board that people who actually HAVE points are being turned down, I'm not counting on an upgrade. But, as you all have said, it doesn't hurt to ask!

Still waiting for the ant farm,

Janet in Michigan

Okay, now proceed to send the SPG#, and AGAIN reiterate your request for an "upgrade if at all possible", and await any reply. Or...you can wait a couple of days, and check your SPG number on the SPG site...look at your ressies and see if an upgrade has been applied. This has happened to many persons whom request in advance. Good Luck, please keep us apprised of this matter. Thanks...DF99;)

Hi,everyone, and a big hello to DF99! I have so enjoyed reading your articulate posts.I would like a little info, please, from any and all Dolphin Jr. Suite experts! A lake/Boardwalk view would be very important to me,as would a balcony.Would these requests be considered upgrades? Could you recommend a certain floor/wing to request on a reservation?I am going to try to reserve a Jr. Suite using a teacher discount, even though I am a retired teacher. Is this do-able? Thanks,All!!

Hi DF99. Thank you for your informative and speedy reply. Buying a fridge sounds like a great idea. Can you please tell me where a good place to buy a fridge would be? We live in Canada, so I don't really know the stores down there. We are going to be at the Dolphin for 2 weeks and I would really love to have a fridge with a freezer compartment . We rented a fridge from the Dolphin 2 years ago and I think it was $25.00 for entire stay. But now it is very expensive. I gues the grocery stores ie Goodings, Publix or Albertsons would not carry fridges?
